Back to why this is such a great thread compared to others, part of it is because even those who are into workrate know it isn't the be-all and end-all of wrestling. I don't think anybody here believes Dean Malenko should have been world champion in 1997.

The problem also comes in how most people define workrate. I think the vast majority take it to mean the amount of moves you perform and the amount of effort you put into the match, but that doesn't really explain how wrestlers like Jeff Jerrett and Christian are perceived as great workers despite working safe styles that don't tax their bodies. To me, it all falls down to how well you can sell the effects of a match, rather than how much damage you can take. I love Mitsuharu Misawa and Bret Hart, but if you put a gun to my head and ask me who I thought the better worker was, I'd say Bret in an instant. Both can put on clinics, but one was skilled at making it look like an actual fight without taking unnecessary damage in the process.

There's a big difference between the Japanese style workrate and Western style.

As you pointed out, Western workers focus more on the sell and maybe hitting one or two stiff/risky spots in a big match whilst still engaging the audience with a decent flow to the whole thing. Japanese style guys focus on the back and forth "fighting spirit" bits and brutal bumps for near falls.

If you look at NJPWs current roster a lot of the guys in their 40s are badly dinged up and really show it. Nakamura had the right idea, get out in your 30s and go to the place where a 20+ minute match is rare and have some quality of life when you retire.

Hell, Omega is as busted up as he is because he autistically devoted himself to being "the" Japanese workrate guy and he is a fucking wreck even with all the surgery. It's amazing he's still as good as he is but the second half of his life is going to suck for him.

So people really like the Will Ospreay style wrestling where these guys very obviously set each other up for their flips?

This is just two person gymnastics.

"Oh let's carefully balance each other on the ropes so we can do our epic flip and counter flip"
Geez. And this is the IWC's supposed darling.

This reminds me of that clip from Russo's YT channel - a match between Osprey and Ricochet, complete with flippity-shit and some added circus music. Granted, I'm not a fan of Russo in general but I can agree with him that this is just a WTF segment.

The way I always viewed wrestling was the point of it is to make it look impactful, but keep it safe, and to tell a story through a match.

What drives me nuts about AEW and a lot of the Japanese stuff is that it tends to be the opposite. It looks fake, but it's dangerous.

It's the whole problem with hardcore wrestling where guys ends up a bloody mess and it's just the same meaningless match over and over again. When you use light tubes, tables, and other shit every match, it has no impact.

You just end up with guys in their 40's looking and sounding like their are punch-drunk, scarred up fuckers in the 60's.

to add onto this the general disdain for dirtsheets is a good thing, smarks on twitter who treat Meltzers word as gospel are fucking retards

If you get the chance, watch Toni Storm/Mariah May 3 from Revolution tonight.. genuinely the women's match of the year, and maybe match of the year so far.

Travis Scott killed ten children during a concert with faulty stage props and wasn't convicted. Between this and his ties to Dwayne "Sucks Cock" Johnson, I get the feeling someone is looking out for him in show business. He's a dumb nigger with an ego from being untouchable. If I was Cody, I'd be worried the guy will bring a prop gun or something to the match and Baldwin him.
Fuck Travis Scott till I die.
This man is a legit psychopath and I can’t believe he and Danielson were Brothers in Law at one point.

I’m sorry but women should never get color in wrestling. Blood only works if you’ve can make the viewer think even for a second that the wrestling is legit.

Women’s wrestling can be fun to watch but it’s impossibly to not see how fake it is at all times.

It's more a problem with the type of women they try to sell. Yeah, I could see Fatass Nia Jax or Ripped Rhea Ripley doing some damage but the idea that women like Alexa Bliss, Liv Morgan, Bayley, etc are a threat to anything is a joke.

yeah at least in terms of WWE, it has gotten better content-wise then it was say 6 years ago, a womens segment or match doesnt immediately make me switch the channel and it has to be obvious filler for me to write it off as a piss break, but imo the Lefty wrestling fans who bitch about them not getting as much screentime on weekly TV are retards, the Men for the most part are going to draw more thats just how it is, theres womens wrestlers I do enjoy like Rhea or even Chelsea, but theres only so much TV time and HHH literally can only choose segments that are for sure Draws, thats why I am slightly critical of having womens midcard belts, Its difficult to find TV time for them and even harder for those belts to get PPV title defenses even for bigger cards like Mania or Summerslam

No idea if it's a wrestling or a boxing match, but Minoru will be facing of against Butterbean of all people in April.

I wonder if DDP Yoga could work for a ~30 year old because at this point I'm convinced it's black magic.

HIT MY FUCKING MUSIC NIGGA, 187 TIL I DIE
I had to consult Grok to see how New Jack and his agent were able to convince a promotions to license a song from a short lived, but legendary, collaboration between Ice Cube and Dr Dre. Apparently they played it without papers until the copyright lawyers came for them.

I strongly disagree. Just last week, Chelsea Green got a wicked bloody nose on NXT. She looked awesome, IMO.

Moxley retained yet again ? man this just reaffirms to me AEW is an absolute shitshow, Tiny probably uronically believes the Death Riders shit is the coolest thing ever and doesnt understand why he rarely even breaks 700k viewers on Dynamite anymore

ecw played whatever the hell they wanted to for their talents themes for the majority of their lifespan. new jack never had an agent as far as i ever knew, with the notable exceptions of his wife towards the end of his life and career, and his his tag team partner mustafa in the mid to late 90s when he wasn't smoking pencil shavings and random plants he found outside the bingo hall.
