I have a ton of respect for Mick, as much as one stranger can respect another anyway, and I'll never intentionally diminish his contributions to the business and the toll it took on his body. That said, I got some thunks.
I've been on a split kick of going through the Funker's career, ECW and Total Nonstop Hogan in rotation. As a result I've been getting a lot of time with Mick and have noticed that the vast majority of his career revolves around the same old theme of earning respect and proving he belongs. It's like the man's entire body of work is just him airing his insecurities over and over and over again to the same fucking result. Everyone once again agrees that Mick is great and he really doesn't need to do the crazy shit he does to prove it, but he does it anyway because gosh darn it that's just who Mick is.
That's it. At least that's how it feels to me when you're consuming literal hours of the man's matches and promos. It just never fucking ends.
And you combine this with his current health and its just fucking sad. Mick spent decades of his life nearly killing himself to prove to himself and the people who already loved him that he belonged in this fake fucking sport. And what did it get him? A broken body and a quickly deteriorating mind, just to STILL be insecure and unsure of his legacy and place in the business? Just brutal.
