Anybody besides me hate themselves for this stuff? I remember smashing up my FF III cartridge with a hammer because I couldn't stop fighting dinosaurs in that forest until every character was level 99. I was having zero fun and didn't understand why I was doing it. I remember someone I knew playing diablo 2, obsessively grinding for gear or something and complaining about the same thing. It's like the game hijacks that part of your brain that drives you follow a job through to perfection but instead of doing top-notch masonry work or mastering calculus you've just pissed away a weekend without enjoying it.
Dude you could kill those dinos in a single round with the vanish trick. It took like 1 hour to reach level 99 that way.

Sonic 1, 2, & 3K
Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3
Spyro 1 & 2
Rayman (the original Saturn/PS1 game)
Super Mario Advanced 1 & 2
Castlevania: Lords of Shadow - Mirror of Fate
WarioWare (The GBA, GameCube, & DS versions)
Tekken Tag Tournament (unlocking all characters & endings)
Mario Kart 64 and 7

Thats just off the top of my head.

Another game I can almost say I 100%'d, but can't because it's a luck-based challenge, is Earthbound. One of your party members has exactly one weapon in the entire game, the Sword of Kings, and it's an extremely rare 1/128 drop from a fairly difficult enemy that's in exactly one point of the game. Once you complete the dungeon he's in, he stops spawning altogether.

I ground Ness up to level 99 trying to get that stupid thing and never got one. And that's before you get the massive experience & stat boost from completing Magicant.
Ah, the Sword of Kings from the Starman Super. What an annoying way to obtain a weapon.

I just remembered a couple.

Super Mario Galaxy. Honestly I’m shocked I forgot a game I enjoyed so much that I bothered to 100% it twice.

Warriors Orochi 3. This was really more time consuming than a challenge bit I love the gameplay so it’s fine.

Dynasty Warriors 7. This one was even more of a grind than WO3 and much les enjoyable.

Oh right, I 100%-ed Mario Party Advance as a kid for some reason. Look that game up if you haven’t heard of it, it’s not well-designed at all.

I’ve 100%ed way too many games over the years, but some highlights include:

I got the hidden ending in the first Shadow Hearts. That includes getting the secret character, completing his side quest to get the item that makes him useable in combat, and getting the secret ending. I was severely sick with a bad flu for two weeks, and it was about all I could manage to play.

In the original Gran Turismo, I got the secret paint job for the Dodge Copperhead, which was just listed as the Concept Car in-game. Just getting a Copperhead is a bitch, because it required you to win the British-American cup with an American car, which pretty much demands that you learn how to drive a Viper flawlessly, because the TVRs and Astin-Martins you are up against are too powerful for anything else to stand a chance.

What a lot of people don’t know, to this day, is that there is a purple version of the car. The copper paint job is what you get for winning the series on points. The purple paint only comes if you manage to qualify on the pole for all three races and win all three races. I kept my save file for 20 years now just because it was so hard to get that car!

Apex legends. Rocket league, lots of the visual novels they give out on xbox gold or gamepass. Pacman championship edition Dx and 2. That 2nd one is a real bitch.
Geometry Wars 3, but only the iOS version.

Yeesh, I think mine is a pretty short list...
Pokemon Red & Blue, Pinball, and TCG
Final Fantasy IX, including all cards (Tetra Master is NON-CONSENSUAL FROTTAGE do not attempt)
Spyro 1 and 2, maybe 3?
GTA 3
OoT and MM
MGS Twin Snakes
Smash Bros, Melee and Brawl

And I think that's it. Once trophies became the norm, it became much less fun to complete games, because you can start to see when the game designers realize they're wasting your time, but keep going for all you autists. RDR2 is the perfect example of this.

The only games I've ever truly 100%ed are Super Mario World and Donkey Kong Country. The former might not count because of things like the fact that I used a blue Yoshi to get through tubular. The original Wario Land might also count if you ignore the fact that I sometimes use the "press select 16 times to activate the debug mode" trick. And I recently got 100 points on every non-extra level of the original Yoshi's Island, which is something I never thought I would be able to do.
Oooh, I forgot to mention Kirby's Dreamland 3 and Kirby 64. For the former I cheated on some of the minigames by taking a picture of the screen with my phone, but whatever.

Super Mario Bros. 3 would also probably count. I overlooked it because of the fact that the game doesn't acknowledge whether or not you skipped any levels in the end. And I did it all without using any Lakitu clouds to skip levels and played through all the optional levels too.

Donkeykong Country
Max Payne
Sims Bustin out
Def Jam Vendetta
SDvRAW 2006 ps2 and psp
Socom 2, 3, FTB1 and 2
KH 1 and 2
GUN
Simpsons hit and run
Uncharted 1 and 2
cod waw and mw2
Demons Souls
Dark Souls
Wanted Weapons of Fate

The House in Fata Morgana
Zero Time Dilemma
Steins;gate series
Fate series
Letter
Utawarerumono 2 and 3
Dangonronpa 1

I shared saves on some of those ps2 games with my brothers. I agree with the comments about devs adding 100 hours of boring fetch quests that nobody will ever complete unless they're severely autistic.

You get it from those golden robot things behind a waterfall, right? I spent couple hours in there and finally got that sword, and on my way out of there killed couple more golden robots and.. another bloody sword. Didn't even ended up finishing the game back then.

I don't really go for 100% achievements/trophies because there's always at least one that would be just a pain in the ass and not fun to do. The 'find every single useless collectible and you missed one somewhere in the middle of the game good fucking luck' or 'beat the entire game without dying a single time' type stuff. That said I do have every achievement in Bayonetta. I've also have 100% completion on most Mario games... until recently when they started making obnoxious time wasting requirements (3d World requiring you to beat every level five times, Odyssey's copy paste filler moons, etc). For those I consider myself to have 100% beaten them because I beat the extra hard endgame levels, you can take your filler crap and shove it up your ass Nintendo.

It's in the Stonehenge cave underneath Winters, and yeah you get them from Starman Supers.

If you quit right after that, you were only a couple of hours away from the end, though that's also around the point where the tone of the game started getting way darker.

WarioWare (The GBA, GameCube, & DS versions)

Oh yeah, I unlocked Pyoro 2 in Warioware GBA at one point, which required you to beat a target score on all 200 microgames. It wasn't hard to do, just really time consuming for a prize I can barely even remember.

Worst of all was that you could unlock every single other thing in the game, from starting a new game, in about 3 hours. So then you'd just have an empty block in your menu from then on unless you took the time to grind through every single game.

With the exception of getting every ending I cleared out Chrono Trigger. It's a real bummer to know that a game you really like have nothing left to offer than grinding levels. Same with FF6, I even put in the effort to grind economizers for everyone so they could cast ultima every round, forever.
