I wish Night Dive Studios would remaster Wolfenstein 3d and add "aim smoothing" for controller (it feels real good on the DOOM 1+2). They keep remastering all kinds of goofy shit no one ever heard of or cares about instead.

A new Shining Force game. Not the generic-looking anime shit that the series has become.

I feel like the Mount and Blade: Viking Conquest devs could have made a much more detailed take on Sid Meier's Pirates (from a world simulation with rich historical detail standpoint)

I also feel like the UBoat devs could make a much more detailed take on Sid Meier's Pirates (from a simulationist/career standpoint)

The latter could even be specifically about Napoleonic Wars naval careers and marketed as Master and Commander: The Game the same way everyone considers UBoat to be Das Boot: The Game.

As I grow more disillusioned with current modern-era shooters like Battlefield and CoD, I want one that isn't stuck in multicoloured gun-running slip-and-sliding bullshit. Restricted range of movement and an actual reliance on squads.

Adding to that, one that focuses on current conflicts like the Ukraine War, but offers campaigns for both sides. You don't need to be too bombastic to have something exciting - you could have a mission where your squad is attempting to move through s field at night only for the enemy to fire a mortar round that releases a cluster of mines over your position, for example.

There's just a lot of great potential there right now, yet modern devs are boring, unimaginative and constantly tripping over themselves.

Open world western set in USA where you play as a whitey or an indian (and as a nigger to fill the diversity quota). Like RDR2, only less story and more open space. Add crafting and construction to better sell the game to minecraft-heads.
Also RDR set during Russian Civil War. There is a lesser known genre of action called "ostern"- western wovie, made by Warsaw pact countries, usually it's low budged GDR, but other countries have been doing it too (some of quintessential ostrerns are the checz comedy "Lemodane Joe" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lemonade_Joe and soviet action set during the Russian Civil War down south called "White Sun of the Desert" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/White_Sun_of_the_Desert).
Russian Civil War in steps can be seen as the last hoorah of the huge open terrain old style of mobile warfare- where you don't have enough men to cover the vast expances and infantry without cavalry is only good at holding key points, so the bulk of fighting fell on the cavalry, both regular and irregular- so the cavalry men charging with sabers and "Broomhandle" Mausers C96's and Nagant Revolvers in hands is a very well known image in the east. It was not uncommon for cavalry to fight against cavalry in sort of hit'n'run battles, somewhat akin to caracole carrousel of the old.
Anyway what I'm getting at is that I wish RDR2 would've been set in this surrounding. Playing as Jack Marston (son of John, if you recall)- a grizzeled tired man on the run from the US law for killing that FIB agent who killed his father, being hired as a bodyguard to, let's say, an american or brit*sh reporter, working during the Civil War. You get get them into all sorts of armed shenannigans.

A remaster of these 2 PS2 games that people sleep on:

1. Contra: Shattered Soldier >> great classic gameplay, great soundtrack, great look/fire/explosions

2. Mortal Kombat Shaolin Monks >> Probably the most fun co-op game I ever played. Kind of like co-op DMC but without the weird camera angles

basically a modernized Daggerfall with slightly less confusing leveling and a massive open world with side quests, radiant quests and massive dungeons, i dont think any dev is capable of making a game that size though

Fallout new Vegas remastered put all the cut content back into the game and finish the uh legion side the map it's never any get done

warlords 5 and 6 warlords basically be having two different versions every alternating game being real time and turn based.

Have you heard about The Wayward Realms?
The kickstarter for The Wayward Realms hit the funding goal and it is scheduled to release December 2025. There has been some discussion of it in the Daggerfall Unity thread.
