One of the biggest tragedies within the world of gaming podcasts/livestreams is how often they begin as just a group of (typically male) friends shooting the shit, making jokes, and chilling as they talk about games in a garage, only to then grow too large in the ensuing years where eventually people weasel in who don't at all fit the vibe or tone of the show. Absolutely killing it. This stuff needs to just remain friends in a garage/studio.

Easy Allies (former GameTrailers crew) is another good example. It was highly entertaining for the first year but now it's a disaster no one watches cuz they brought on people who care more about virtue signalling on current era politics than they do games.

I'm just so tired of these types coming in and ruining stuff. It wasn't long after Abby Russell joined GB that my partner and I stopped listening. She was the worst, and it was how she acted during their GOTY discussions when Nier Automate came up that was my tipping point. Like Austin Walker and Patrick Klepek are major pansies who suck, but Giant Bomb still managed to remain largely entertaining even when they were around in the earlier days just because everyone else was still so funny, but there was a shift during the Abby years where it was like everyone was on eggshells and nothing was funny.

Nothing highlights this more than the Best of Giant Bomb videos on Youtube. Go watch any of the first 100 episodes and they're an absolute riot. They're so goddamn funny. But compare the old ones to any of the episodes from recent years and it's night and day.

Nothing is ever going to get better until these people are sued into the ground or experience some kind of serious consequence for their subhuman behavior. Wailing and gnashing teeth, limpdick petitions, or "calling them out" on Twitter will do nothing because these people just retreat into their hugboxes and wait it out with no consequences.

It's grifters and attention whores all the way down so the only thing a normal person can do is just ignore them.

When Alyssa Mercante wanted someone's personal information on people she hates that she wants to smear, it's good. But when someone else does it to Alyssa Mercante, it's bad.

I suspect she's currently in the small category of people where having her own thread is exactly the sort of thing she wants, so it doesn't get made to spite her. She's desperately trying to get in on the 10 year anniversary of GamerGate Sarkeesian-style 'Evil gamers are harassing me because I'm a woman, not because I insulted them all repeatedly while lying about everything!'

Keeping her as just another generic journo in the thread also undercuts her self-importance. If she does something outside the decade-old playbook, maybe she'll get too interesting to stop a thread from developing, but right now I think it's funnier for her not to have one.
