I agree with you, solregistered, but I fear that one of these days some special snowflake will reach critical mass and people will start drinking the kool-aid. Honestly, if someone wants to make a game with a transgendered protagonist or whatever I'm all for it. What I'm not for is the wide spread belief that all gamers are evil sociopaths and misogynists. Lately it seems like that's the message gaming journalism wants to spread. Censorship in general also infuriates me.

This is a very important point.
Granted, I dropped out of new gaming around the end of the PS2 era because I had (and still do) a ton of games I still hadn't gotten around to play, I had a PSP with theoretically unlimited games, same for the PS2 after I modded it, so I might not be the best example, but I had no clue who pretty much all these people are.
I play WoW and I glance at some game news sites to make sure it's still just the same old shit in HD, and none of these people have crossed my radar.

Reminds me of how my wife's sister will rant about how SJW types are doing this that and the other and all the media is on their side blahblahblah and I have to break it to her that at the newsmedia job I have this stuff never comes up at all and nobody in the real world has any more clue about this online bullshit than they do Star Wars EU debates or Japanese Power Ranger Subtitle Arguments.
 
I wouldn't worry about too many of these "journalists". Just about no one takes most of these websites seriously. They're respected journalists in the same way your average YouTube shlub is a noted TV star. The industry at large is probably not paying too much attention to "Gamer Gate". Ask Shigero Miyamoto what he thinks of this.

The thing is, I agree with you, but I still think it's worth talking about and pushing back. Gamers do have a pretty bad public image, with media constantly blaming us for violence in RL, so there is potential for someone to take this ammunition and run with it. There's also the issue of Zoe herself being a piss poor role model for women who want to get into the industry, yet she's being held up by SJWs and game journalists as some kind of martyr for feminism in gaming. Even though this whole fiasco probably won't have an impact on gaming as a whole, it's too big to ignore and raises too many other issues.

As for murdering video games, a hammer would do a better job but even then, one could bet that these "cuties" wouldn't want to destroy any video games they hold dear.

If anything, this, along with the rest of this damn thread, has convinced me that we should never relinquish the term "Gamer" to these people, or anything to them, for that matter. I'm sure their intentions were noble at some point but you really need to re-evaluate your life when you're calling someone and telling them to kill themselves over an internet video.

This is what we're up against, people. Despicable fucks who will think nothing of threatening someone, harassing someone in real life, and demanding they kill themselves... And for what? For daring to have an opinion not theirs on the fucking internet. These are the tactics of bullies and spiteful pricks, and we must make sure that we never stoop to levels such as these. Ever.

TheIceCreamMan is quite right. We should never cede a goddamned thing to people who would do something like this.
 
Honestly, I know I'm going to sound stupid, but Anita, although, her videos add nothing new to the feminist world, does not deserve to be death-threated. I've watched most of her videos and even though I disagree with some of her viewpoints, does not warrant rape threats. (I know about the money issues, but I think I've seen worst wastes of money. Dashcon, Brony-island)

I've played Depression Quest and as someone who suffers from depression, it was OKAY. I do think that Ms. Quinn should step away from the spotlight for a while and her ex-boyfriend sounds like a Lolcow himself.

NOBODY, NO MATTER WHAT SIDE THEY'RE ON, NEED TO BE HARASSED. This whole Twitter thing just brings out the worst citizens of Internet. (:_(
