Im honestly surprised this guy settled for an american piggu and isn't getting findommed by some lazy nippon hikki.
 
I forgot all about this guy. He was definitely the lesser of the Gametheorists, and obviously only there to appease weebs. I have a few mild memories of this guy that may be of some use to deciding on his potential Lolcow status

I remember once getting in a small altercation with him. It started with me calling him a narcissist for live streaming his wedding(which was at an arcade and he was dressed as Mario in true moviebob fashion). Keep in mind this was well before life streamers were the thing to do, or at least several years before I learned that life streamers were the big thing on YouTube. He bitched at me a little and then sent his fans after me. It was somewhat amusing.

He also famously angered moviebob’s fans by claiming Suckerpunch was the worst movie he had ever seen(I don’t blame him on that one.

Then he had his short beef with Gimmeabreakman(does he have a thread here yet?) because Gimmeabreakman claimed that GaijinGoomba shouldn’t call himself an expert on Japan after only a 2 year stay in the county when he himself had been living in the country non-stop for 20 years and felt even he wasn’t an expert. I don’t remember how that resolved itself

It's not that impressive. To teach English in Japan you need to come from an English speaking country and speak the language.

And that's it.

And unless you're teaching in some inaka area of the country or get a subsidized apartment from the company it's practically poverty wages. Granted I don't know what the current going rate for English teachers at some Eikaiwa is but when I was there it was around 225-250K yen a month. That's enough to live on and maybe go out to the local bar on the weekend. ALTs, or Assistant Language Teachers in high school, do get a bit of a better deal though.

Of course of course, know my worth and everything.

But I also have pride, I help some Japanese friends of mine with English, and when I talk to them again and their English is a bit more clear, I feel a kinda pride in that.

And I'm well, you know, trying to learn the language so I can better communicate what I'm trying to teach
 
As much as I wish I could move to the northern bits of Japan, I know that its extremely difficult to stay in the country and become a citizen, much less feed yourself and have people you can hang with out there who aren't gaijin goomba tier weeaboos. You need to be making some good cash there, get a referral by a japanese company, know the language fairly well, and you probably need to put down roots in the form of marrying a japanese citizen; thats how most people stay in the country. I ain't surprised that gaijin goomba didn't have the skills to stay in the country and work towards citizenship, and I especially ain't surprised that no self-respecting Japanese woman wanted to be in ten feet of him.

Its obvious someone like him wouldn't be allowed to stay, but honestly its really arduous from what I've read to gain citizenship, even for people who have the qualifications.

Except in these Eikaiwa you are specifically told NOT to speak Japanese to your students. Or so I've heard. The whole point is they want their students only to speak English in class. Speaking Japanese takes away from that and provides a kind of crutch.

Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against people who teach English in Japan. There is no shame in doing that. You are providing a service but the gravy train for that was back in the 1980's. Back then English teachers were treated like rock stars. A good salary for the time, they'd meet you at the airport, put you up in a nice hotel for a couple days and then you'd be teaching businessmen and CEOs how to speak English. I had a professor in university that took a couple years off to do that and he had a great time. But then I also know people doing this and they live in a crappy guest house because they don't make enough to get a real place.

He was there on the Jet program which is bottom tier job wise for foreigners. In a video he mentioned of how difficult it was to become friends with Japanese people in general and the kids he taught thought so highly of him they didn’t listen to a word he had to say.
Gaijin Goomba is basically the polar opposite of the abroad in Japan guy who is highly regarded by Japanese people. He also started as an English teacher but when he left his teaching job the kids gave him a huge send off, not only that he made friends with foreign and Japanese people as well. He’s wrote a best seller about his time in Japan and money wise is raking it in and has been for some time.
