I was going to comment a few things on the Netherlands v Japan game but I would rather take a step back before the Ivory Coast v Ecuador game. The first 2 games today have shown that 32 teams should have been in this tournament instead of 48. It was expanded just so big name teams that get embarrassed in group stage don't ever have to be eliminated again. Purely a ratings ploy and it sucks.

Who do you guys reckon would be the funniest country to win? My vote is for either Iran or the USA, the humor in Iran winning is obvious, but I think if the US won its first World Cup while hosting it, there would be endless potential for bants to make Euros and Latinos seethe. No lie, I don't keep up with the World Cup, it just happens to have been foisted into my field of view, so I have gained a sudden interest. I don't know if Iran or the US could fathomably win, but it would be funny.

KSA impressed the shit out of me with that defensive hold. It felt like at any time, Uruguay was going just crack them and start scoring.

As someone has already mentioned in the thread, South America is not looking that hot this tournament.

Telemundo commentary was talking up their defensive prowess. Since the Saudi League started to pay beaucoup bucks to bring in guys like CR7, Benzema, etc, the level of competition Saudi defenders play against has grown exponentially and has forced them to get better.
 
Iran v New zealand one to watch. Who will win, a backwards illegitimate state who's people are known for fucking sheep or Iran? I assume most farmers will be supporting our national team?
