Watched the sport as a kid during the Hakkinen vs Schumacher days. Of course I was a fan of Hakkinen, the guys is a cold calculating driver, so cool!! The finish are great drivers!! And I really liked the Mercedes McLaren livery.
My parents then immigrated and I stopped watching the sport.

Years later I picked it up thanks to torrenting, it was the 2016 season and what a season, the Mercedes infighting drama was beautiful and pretty boy Nico Rosberg made Louis eat shit!! i think it was also the same season that Max Verstappen won the Spanish GP.
I watched for a few years but Sky Sports were getting very political, injecting anti-trump whenever they could. I still enjoyed watching the pre-race to listen to the engineering challenges and improvements every team made but it all soured when Louis, Mr. Pretty Princess "please i need more attention" decided to start kneeling and doing BLM crap and making all the drivers stand with BLM.

Now I just occasionally check on a few updates every couple of months.

Anyways, I hope the Mohammed Ben Sulayem and all the board members of the FIA to die in a terrible accident. What a bunch of tyrannical pricks!!!

I was a fan of Hakkinen
imo Hakkinen is one of the most underrated WDC winners of the past 50 years. His accident at the 1995 Australian F1 GP left him in intensive care for 2 months, yet he clawed his way back to win the 1998 and 1999 WDC. All during the period where Schumi was at the height of his powers... however it seems like a lot of people (even F1 fans) forget Mika won the WDC at all, let alone twice.

imo he's second only to Niki Lauda as far as greatest F1 comeback stories go, but Lauda is a badass's badass. I don't there will ever be another F1 comeback from life-threatening injuries that was as full-on as Lauda's.

Zou vill vatch the F1 with 24 urban rounds in a season
and zou vill like it
I hate the urban tracks with a passion. They are boring for a viewer. But, as a driver, they are lethal, leaving very little margin for error because of no run off if you make a small mistake.

Of all the racing games I have played, the only one I tolerate is the Tokyo Expressway in Gran Turismo 7. Poliphony designed it with some run-off zones.

I bet if more and more urban tracks are introduced, the teams will experience a higher yearly cost, mainly going towards damage repair.

Unless, of course, you let a certain Canadian driver drive your car, then...... your dad better have billions of dollars.

Anyone collect model cars? Cause I got 10. I’m debating to find Lewis 08 McLaren or jenson’s 2011 McLaren. I have jenson’s brawn GP as my crown jewel
OK, sperg time!

I used to collect 1/43 Minichamps (and also Quartzos, Onyxs and a few Brumms) back in late 90s up until I sold them all in 2010 or so. I think I stopped just after 2009, so had all those Minichamps Button victory version, I know I had 4 or 5 Button Brawns.

In total, I had over 750 1/43s if I recall at time of selling them all. It was an enjoyable and fun hobby, for the most part, but the autistic pursuit of having to get every single one that was released became too daunting and expensive and frustrating. I remember there was a limited edition set of 8 Minichamps that were only released in Japan and each came with Bibendum, the Michelin Man figure:

and I managed to persuade a Japanese connection I had to order them and send them to me here in Canada. So, was happy to snag those hard to obtain ones. But then there would be German only Mercedes dealer releases and other ones that were just impossible to obtain, so that started souring me. I did buy a lot off eBay as in addition to the releases that were currently coming out, I sought out all the older releases that came out before I got the bug. So at the end of my days of doing it, I had a great collection from 1970 onwards of the Minichamps. I had Panis' win in Monaco and Hill's British GP with them holding the French and UK flags, Alesi's win in Montreal which I think he was sitting on Schumi's car, like the Mansell/Senna "taxi" I also had. Vettel's 1st win with rain tyres was neat.

I had the Villeneuve and Hill Minichamps World Champ releases which came with full tobacco liveries too, the Tyrrell 6-wheelers, Lauda's fan car, the McLaren's from mid 70s with removable engine cowling, some releases had the driver standing up etc etc etc.

The one thing about MC releases is they put out a lot! Showcars, First points, first wins etc. It was not out of the ordinary that there would be 60 releases or more per season. The Quartzos were great too but they stopped manufacturing by time I started collecting and since they weren't making anymore, I think I had all the Qs (save maybe a half dozen I couldn't track down, their serial numbers started at 4000 and went up to 4120 or 30 or so I think).

Quartzo also had a World Champ edition which had a podium (maybe 8 or 10 of those I had), Rindt's came without the driver figure as he had died before being named WDC of course. Quartzo also made many of the cars from the 50s and 60s (like the beautiful early 60s Ferraris, I actually kept 4 of those, only models I have left) which, when I collected, Minichamps never did. I think it was Rindt's 1970 Lotus and the De Tomaso Fords which were the earliest ones from Minichamps at that time. I couldn't understand why they never made any models from pre-1970 back then.

I still have on an external HD my FilemakerPro database I created for my collection, should find that and update it to see if I can still access it. And typing this message made me recall that there was a great database of models that I used to created my FMPro template. I went looking, and it is still accessible! Looks like it was last updated in 2018, but this is a great resource that you might enjoy, great searchability and also photos of the models. Hope you find it useful: http://ivo.home.fmf.nl/F1models/input.php When I grabbed that Vettel pic above from Yuui's DB, I searched for 2008 Minichamps. There are will over 70 models listed for just that year! You mentioned Lewis' McLaren for 2008, there are over a dozen alone of that one made by Minichamps! So, that tells you how saturated it all got. I mean does one really need 8 different Nakajima models from 2008?? I did! LOL

As I said, it was a very fun hobby, and the Minichamps cars especially are extraordinarily detailed, but the obsessive collector mentality I had, along with the rising costs of the models and the space that was required to display them made me finally put an end to it all. I was lucky in that when I started selling I listed a few cars on eBay and one of the buyers I messaged with I told him what I had and he offered me $25,000 for my complete collection, so it made it easy to get rid of them as I didn't have to list more than a dozen on eBay before that happened, thank god. I sent him the collection (fortunately he was also in Canada) in about 10 super large boxes that held 70 or 80 cars. I was spared having to make a listing for over 700 cars and the offer was more than generous so I was quite happy about the ease of parting with them, although was a bit sad to put an end to that part of my life.

So, yeah, as long as you keep in mind not to go nuts and need to get EVERY single one, you should enjoy it! Sorry for the sperg, but you woke some old and melancholy memories in an old man today. LOL

Welcome to the Miami race weekend everybody! What's been happening and what can we expect? Remember we have the live chat for discussion during the session too! Will President Trump be a guest of McLaren again this year? Track temperatures at Miami are high, with chances of rain for race day. Forecast shows dry and lightly cloudy conditions for saturday and sunday running.

France and Germany gone, Netherlands going, Spa alternating, yet somehow we get 16 more years of this fuck awful car park track
This is like NASCAR making Charlotte or Atlanta once every other year so they can put in a race in New York City on a crap street circuit that's actually in Yonkers.

Why couldn't they extend Las Vegas instead? At least that race is halfway decent.
