Funny thing is that the RedBull in race trim looked quite good. Was just the Quali that threw everything into the shitter. But the last laps. Jesus that was great and now Ferrari has the Smooooth Proooofesssoooorrr

Good ass race, I'm so glad my eternal pessimism about sainz's chances were wrong. I half expected max to be p1 by lap 20. And that fucking safety car damn near got him there.
The last few laps were so intense that it's easy to forget how close max almost came to getting into first place and then getting an immense lead like he always does and pitting safely, ending the joys of the race

I'm so happy ferrari fucking did it. I really expected red bull to win every single race at this point

Opinions on grosjean after this season of indycar?

I always knew he was a mediocre driver, his multitude of stupid incidents only reinforced me in this point of view (why yes you should keep pushing gas when facing the opposite direction tk the track). I am pretty sure he wont get a seat for 2024 either.

Most common line of defence being "he is the nicest guy on the grid though" which is idiotic. You dont win races by being nice.

And he is french.
He seems like a cool guy in general but he's blown this year and also is raging way too much at his team. I hope he gets another chance maybe, but I don't think he's been doing the work on this one.

Also dude almost ran me over with his e-scooter because he was pissed coming out of medical after binning it at a race last year. His expression while doing so was what stuck with me. It was that sort of neutral-pissed people get when trying to push something down.

I count Russell's accident as one of the dumbest I have witnessed in more decades of watching F1 than I care to remember. I am holding onto that hot take until I hear a more credible explanation. None of this nonsense about him finding space behind Norris. There was loads of space that wasn't already occupied by walls. Russell needs to be reminded that walls don't get time penalties for taking out other drivers. They are rightly lauded for the good work they do in thinning out the herd. On an F1 circuit, walls are a lurking apex predator.

I'm shocked that Ferrari didn't snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. Great to see Sainz get a win.
Ricciardo is in serious risk of becoming a reserve driver again, IMO.
There's a non-zero chance that Lawson could be Max's next bottom bitch at RBR. This depends on whether Helmut loses patience with Checo before the end of next season along with Lawson pushing Ricciardo back into reserve driver duties.

TBH I wouldn't be upset by this outcome. Lawson appears to be up there with Piastri as far as F1 rookies go, and I suspect he'd shame Tsunoda if given the full time AT drive next year.

If there was one more corner, Max would have gotten fourth, and if there wasn't an early safety car or if he had started on the mediums, he would have got a podium.

The timing of the safety cars is what did him in. Red bull had no choice but to stay out for the first one, and the VSC I think? a couple laps after they finally pitted sealed the deal.

I'll admit, I was on the team rooting for Red Bull to turn this season of dominance into an unprecedented run of winning everything. If anyone had to stop them from doing it, I'd rather it be Ferrari than Mercedes.
I kinda was too.

It's great to witness history being made, but that final sequence there was just incredible. Guy in front using a follower's DRS to maintain a buffer against 2 charging cars with fresher tyres?

Good stuff.

Ferrari seems to be the only team able to get a win during this period of über Red Bull domination. If they manage to invest their money well and actually think on their strategies they could actually be competitive. I don't have a lot of hopes though.

Now that I gave more thought, I think both Tsunoda and Ricciardo are at risk probably. Its a difficult choice because both have pros and cons.

Rumor mill has Yuki attached to Aston. He's always been a Honda driver more than a Red Bull protégé, and Honda will want a Japanese driver on their team. Stroll might admit he's useless take up tennis and leave the spot open.

I love Riccardo, he's a likable guy; but I just don't see him working back into the RBR team proper. He's gonna have to heal up quick and then drive the wheels off the car just to prove he should keep the spot he's got.

Being likeable never held anyone in any sport.

I dont like him anyway, when its not reddit tier humor, its his track performance. Kinda reminds me of grosjean, just that riccardo drove some really good cars.

Ferrari always is the spoilsport for perfect seasons. Remember 1988 when Schlesser crashed out Senna? Ferrari took a 1-2, the only not Mclaren win.

And to all of you who think hiring Lawson is a good idea: remember what happened the last time AlphaTauri hired a driver who took 9 in his "rookie season". He is now going to university.

The FIA’s feeder series strategy for selecting new drivers clearly isn’t working out. Teams should be able to hire whoever they want and testing should not be restricted so that rookie drivers can actually learn the car.

I wish Ricciardo would let go of F1. He had his shot. Now he's 34 and driving for a mid-tier team. I guess the money's good, but there is no glory to be won here. In his day he was decent enough, however any potential world championship would have been dependent on a lull between mercurial generation talents, such as Verstappen, or on other teams underperforming. There are 'world champions' and there are world champions.

There are few things more damaging to a rookie driver than being touted as an emerging talent based on a glimmer of performance. I remember when Alexander Wurz was being hailed as a wunderkind. He made a few good moves early in his career - I enjoyed his tangle with Schumacher at Monaco in 1998 - a ballsy performance against a legend on a hard to overtake circuit, - but in the end he found his level.

The connection between these two is Gerhard Berger. Wurz stood in for him for three races in 1997 and came third in the British Grand Prix. Ricciardo is currently dating Berger's daughter.

I always think it is good for F1 that Ferrari gets at least the odd win every year.

Next year could be pretty damn good, as both Ferrari and Mercedes finally seem to be getting on top of the rules.
We'll need to see how the next couple races go before I jump on that train. After all, that was the sentiment last year when Merc snuck a win at Brazil. Red Bull have a firm understanding of these aero rules, and they've had two years of doing it right to build on while everyone else is playing catch up.

As much as I hate the perception of IndyCar being a retirement home for washed up F1 drivers, I think he could do well there. The guy clearly loves American culture, he picked 3 as his driver number because of Dale for God's sake.

Grosjean may have burnt out (pun intended), but he brought some DTS kiddies into Indy that stuck around to appreciate American open wheel, and I think Riccardo would do the same.

Let's be honest here, it wasn't Ferrari's strategy. Otherwise it would have backfired spectacularly. Can you imagine Swarthy Carl trying to do what he did with Charles Latifi? They would've ended up on top of each other, or Charles Latifi would've done a Russel trying to get back first driver position at Ferrari.

Carlos' strategy worked because it was done with Lando and McLaren, who could read what he was doing, were in the same situation tire-wise, and clearly understood second was better than third, fourth or a wall.

It's funny how Carlos and his former team could read each other and end up cooperating better than his current team. His strategy call was a risk but it paid off beautifully. Great race end and victory.
