I had hopes for Fernando, he's so quick in the wet. In Monaco he was genuinely quicker than Max for a while. But I'm perfectly happy for Max to win all the races and tell everyone to fuck off too.
He thought he was "forecast for a podium".
What a dumb thing to say, it was the start of the race. Why does he think we even hold races.

Alonso didn't win but I'm happy for him, got a podium, fastest lap, driver of the day; pretty good race for him.

Perez speeding by 0.8 km/h

"We'll have the Dutch national anthem practiced ready to be done live, the rest can be recorded fuck it"

Hambone in interview thinks it would be an easy P2 and challenging Max if they had pitted earlier for inters at the start.

Yeah Lewis seemed very positive after the race. To be fair to him, he does always come good in the end in races like this. It often feels like he spends the whole race stuck behind a Mick Schumacher and then in the end it's a respectable result. Should've probably had Sainz though.

Perez' speeding in the pit lane was probably the result of him ramming the wall on pit lane entry, it was right before the 60KPH line.

I like this circuit with its banked corners and occasional glimpses of the North Sea - not a millionaire's sea, crowded with mega yachts, but a seemingly endless grey expanse that is almost inseparable from the sky. Some might describe the scenery as drab. I find it earthy and closer to the roots of F1. The fans are actual fans and there is none of the gaudy over-commercialised ostentation that currently hangs like a gilded, diamond-studded millstone around the neck of the sport.

I thought the racing was good too. with some decent wheel to wheel battles. Logan Sergeant, who isn't cut out for F1, had his day of reckoning. Watching him sitting by the circuit with his head in his hands, I think he realises that it's over for him. For a moment it looked like Alonso's years of experience might allow him to get the better of Verstappen.

The SKY commentary team seemed strangely tolerable today. A few days ago some commentators for the network got into trouble for an offhand remark they made regarding the Everton Manager - Sean Dyche (they said that the black armband he was wearing as a tribute to a man who was killed during the construction of the team's new stadium, made him look like a croupier). I wonder whether a memo was sent out instructing their commentary teams to focus on the action and to avoid tangents. Bernie, who I previously thought was dreadful, and who I couldn't believe was a former F1 head strategist, has really raised her game. Questions were asked. She went out and got the answers. Good for her.

When I can watch (in the woods, limited bandwidth) I'll have to watch. Bernie struck me as incredibly competent and knowing a hell of a lot of current team strategy just was... far too awkward on the mic.

I think the lack of Ted was the main reason. If he's allowed to get on a roll with Crofty then they quickly become insufferable talking nonsense while thinking they're making a cleaver metaphor. The only one who stops their roll is Brundel so without him it gets ridiculous.

My only gripe with the team today is they seemed to make (or miss making) some observations that show a lack of knowledge of the sport which brundel would have caught.

Things like Karun saying it was silly to stop for inters at the begining because it'd only be 5 laps until drys (but those 5 laps you'd make up more than the pit stops and also avoid binning it), the Max strategy that needed Horner to explain to them even though it was clear why they did it (plus he ate 7 seconds from checo in 3 laps), and the alonso pit stop they didn't realise was slow until about the 8 second mark.

I'm not a fan of AI, but I'd love to see Sky F1 get an AI model to replace the current crop of dipshit commentators with virtual versions of Murray Walker and James Hunt.

Brundle can stay, because someone has to do the pre-race grid walk and post-race interviews.

The Merc only seems to speed up at the end of a race. So either it only works with empty tanks or Hamilton only has the energy for a few laps at the end of a race

And if we get a commentator AI can we feed it with James Hunt? Please? I want it to call drivers idiots or saying "All I can say is bullshit"

Vips has got an indy drive despite the gamer word incident.

Also let's fact check lewlew's "I was as fast as Max" cope.

SmartSelect_20230829_004509_Brave.jpg

Aside from the fact Max was probably taking it easy given the multiple second lead he had built up, very few of lewlew's laps were as fast as Max's.

Even against Perez his pace doesn't stand up to his claims.

In reality he was about on par with Ocon.

I can't wait for r/indycar adding Vips onto the axis of hate with Ferruci.

Apparently that sub found out all the guys shrieking about him weren't from there to begin with. I thought that was kind of funny. They do still hate Ferrucci though and act like it's settled fact that he threw racial slurs at his teammate even though the only evidence that there is of him doing that comes from the teammate himself whom the team fired for running out of money.

Vips apparently had a good test back at Barber and is aggressive into the corners which is what's needed to succeed in Indy, so I hope he does well enough. We've gotta enjoy our last few seasons without the insufferable faggots that will show up once Myles Rowe inevitably makes his way into the series (which if he doesn't crash out every race in Lights, he will). They'll be fewer in number, but make the Bubba Wallace nut slurpers look sedate.

I'd love to know if there's a raceday chat that isn't either 1: literal indyboomers or 2: the fucking r/indycar discord because ugh.

To be fair, Rowe is tearing up Pro 2000 pretty good, but then Rajah tore up ARCA pretty good too.

(Well I guess the site didn't actually post this the other day.)
