I like this circuit with its banked corners and occasional glimpses of the North Sea - not a millionaire's sea, crowded with mega yachts, but a seemingly endless grey expanse that is almost inseparable from the sky. Some might describe the scenery as drab. I find it earthy and closer to the roots of F1. The fans are actual fans and there is none of the gaudy over-commercialised ostentation that currently hangs like a gilded, diamond-studded millstone around the neck of the sport.
I thought the racing was good too. with some decent wheel to wheel battles. Logan Sergeant, who isn't cut out for F1, had his day of reckoning. Watching him sitting by the circuit with his head in his hands, I think he realises that it's over for him. For a moment it looked like Alonso's years of experience might allow him to get the better of Verstappen.
The SKY commentary team seemed strangely tolerable today. A few days ago some commentators for the network got into trouble for an offhand remark they made regarding the Everton Manager - Sean Dyche (they said that the black armband he was wearing as a tribute to a man who was killed during the construction of the team's new stadium, made him look like a croupier). I wonder whether a memo was sent out instructing their commentary teams to focus on the action and to avoid tangents. Bernie, who I previously thought was dreadful, and who I couldn't believe was a former F1 head strategist, has really raised her game. Questions were asked. She went out and got the answers. Good for her.
