What a shame the man who was complaining the most about other cars violating track limits got an additional penalty. Ocon, Yuki, and de Vries seemed to have decided to race for the most penalties, all had 25+ seconds.

Alonso is only 17 away from Checo. That looks to be the more interesting competition, along with Aston and Merc fighting for second in the constructors.
That is 100% Alonso being best and dragging Aston Martin into being the number 2 team, physics be damned.

If Alonso ends up ahead of Perez that's a bigger achievement than a lot of the championship wins in the sports history. Beating one of the red bulls when they're going like this would be insane.

Conversely not ending up second when the cars are like this ain't going to be good for contract negotiation.

In a sport where space-age materials meet with design innovation, there must surely be a happy medium between a painted white line and a race-ending gravel trap, that imposes a natural physical penalty on drivers for breaching track limits. I find the whining and tattling over the radio more annoying than the penalties themselves.

The commentary team were particularly grating today, with whoever they had covering the pits doing their best impression of someone who has never seen an F1 race before.

...
For all his faults, you can really feel Brundle's absence in races like this. It's like all common sense and any knowledge of the sport go out the window. They kept saying wrong driver names, and both in the sprint and in the race they said multiple times that Lando had gone wide on a specific turn as if he had made a mistake, when anyone watching could see every lap that he was always doing that turn in a particular way, different from everyone else for some reason. For people paid to watch and comment they constantly miss miss details they should be aware of.
Just some idiot's thoughts.

Leclerc only gets 2nd because of Carlos' brilliant defense against Checo. It reminded me of Ocan getting a win because Alonso pretty much showed the world he is better at Hamilton, even in a fucking sled. And kudos for both drivers as once again, Ferrari has no fucking idea what race strategy is.

I bet Toto cannot wait for Sir Lewis to retire. All the drivers were bitching about track limit violations but it's only Mercedes where they have to beg their driver to focus on the race. I would not be shocked if this is Lewis' last year with the team. His ego is way to much to deal with considering his lack of success.

Hell of a good race by Norris and Checo. Lol Yuki.
I don't understand why Ferrari insist on shooting themselves in the foot for the sake of one driver who is not fighting for the championship. If they had let Carlos through they could've had 2-3 podium, but they insist on making him play second fiddle to Keklerc when Carlos is being clearly the best of the two. Then they fuck him over even more with that double stacking joke. I don't understand why they put so much value on Keklerc. Yes, he's fast when things go his way, but he tends to make mistakes a championship contender shouldn't make when under the extreme pressure of heated competition.

Regading Hamilton, Lando noted a couple of times in the beginning that LewLew had gone over the limits. Then his pit wall told him to report every instance of Hambone going over, and Lando just replied that Blowies was all over the place and he wasn't going to keep talking about it. Contrasting that with Hambone's constant seething about limits and how much the car is shit, you can understand why Toto may be fed up. I don't feel sorry for him, he has partial responsibility for Blowies' inflated ego. And I'm betting they've been developing the car according to Blowies' feedback, ignoring Russel. I'm not a fan of Russel, but I don't believe for one second that his drop in performance relative to Blowies is just Hambone being a better driver, when he was beating him when the car was dogshit.

Could you imagine their reaction if he was celebrating the fuck out of it, they'd be calling him arrogant and all sorts of other bollocks.

They were always pissy about Vettel and the finger. Most loved Kimi for the detached over it style. They're just coming up with anything they can to moan that max is battering little lewlew.

The thing I love most about Sir Lewis fans is their belief that the Bahrain decision was the most controversial thing ever in F1. My guess is that their history of F1 started with that Netflix show.

I like this bit of the stewards saying please fix this shit.

A gravel trap 2 inch closer than the width of a car to the track would soon sort it out. Though then they'd probably be crying about safety.
IMO the issue is more that the exit of turn 10 is already quite tight, coming off from a fast corner so it's easy for anyone carrying real speed end up going over the line. The only real alteration I'd do is widen the track at the exit of 10 by half a meter.

Edit: FIA also seems to agree with getting a gravel trap there.

They have got a point. The only time Max has shown any passion was when Russell damaged his sidepod. Like there was something we shouldn't be seeing angry.
Do you remember the F duct? that's the last time a team had this big an advantage and the only other team to hire one of red bulls engineers is now 2nd in most races. It really activates the almonds.

I think Max is very passionate about racing he's just not an over the top extrovert. He owns a DTM team, he takes part in sim racing championships, he apparently spends a silly amount of time in the red bill development sim, he's a big fan of WEC (including having it on in the garage during sessions so he can watch it when not having to drive fast of the sessions clash), and he rushed through postrace stuff at Monaco so he could get home to watch Indy 500. That plus the Dutch aren't known for their over the top emotional reactions.

Completely unrelated but a F1 Youtuber I watch just released a video on the history and death of Formula W and it's filled with snide bullshit plus clown music over the part where he discusses the criticism from people, men and women alike, within the sport.

It bugs me that he's "everyone else is sexist". Makes me think too much of Hamilton, his bootlickers, and their rhetoric of "muh everyone against me is le racist"

If you want my two cents on the series....the whole thing was retarded. They were given peanuts to work in terms of funds and it bugs me that for a sport where there's no physical contact, gender segregation is needed.

Same goes for Formula Academy. Just take the bitches, throw them in with the boys, and give them the opportunity to prove themselves on par with men. Everything else feels like coddling or pity work.

I fully expect that this all ultimately was a way for someone to swindle money from ESG funds because it sounded good to the ears of some 73 year old bank manager.

Of course Revel was going to have that take. He's a youngish kiwi, if he said anything different the Internet police that Null told to get fucked would come for him.

Everyone ready for a weeked of the fans being as classless as possible at every opportunity all while half the drivers and the commentary team call them the greatest fans in the sport ever?

Ah, so he's just spineless then. Got it. Anyway, the Formula Academy series will absolutely fail in some fashion, especially if they're not even gonna fucking broadcast the races.

I caught the tail end of the "hilights" program the other day while waiting for the sprint. They were god awful, more than half of the overtake attempts were crahses and the punditry was beyond annoying, just a really over the top negres.

They really need to realize that all this starts from the Karts and that's where the actual fiscal resources should be focused on.

And a realisation that no matter how much you try to force it some things just appeal to boys more than girls. One such example being racing karts/cars. That means less getting into the sport in the first place. That smaller population will therefore give rise to a far far lower population of those at the peak capable of getting to F1.

You cannot tell me that in current world if a fast female driver with a superlicence turned up every single team wouldn't be trying to get that signature on a contract. No one at any level is blocking women from getting into the sport, quite the opposite.

Josh Revell's schtick got kinda old for me. I don't mind a bit of snark and a few in-jokes, but the constant Mahaveer Raghunathan references are a bit much. He comes across as a bit of a Hamtard too, which doesn't help. I had to unsubscribe to him in the end.

though to be fair, most English speaking F1 channels spend an excessive amount of time washing Hambone's balls, which is why I don't watch any F1-centric YouTube stuff anymore

Kiwis (the Antipodean kind) are hardwired to be more woke than most English speakers, so it's probably more to do with Josh actually believing this stuff than it is about fear of cancellation for wrongthink.

True. It's not like the bad old days, when the likes of Janet Guthrie were stymied at every turn.

The original problem that the W Series was presented as a solution to, was that of there being not enough opportunities for said women to get those superlicense points and experience in F3 or F4. Problem it instead created was that it became it's own little universe and any champion of it would be treated as a token instead of a talent. Flawed right from the beginning.

The irony is that they are doing it yet again. Ffs, FIA....
