F1 had turned to shit since Bernie Ecclestone cashed out and retired.

Bernie may not be well liked, but he's arguably the best thing that ever happened to F1. I'd go as far as to say he may have been the best thing that ever happened to motorsport period.
Nah, the best thing to happen to motorsports was big cig and booze figuring out that they can bankroll some of the coolest shit ever. Bernie was very competent but without Philip Morris International, it would still be a bunch of nobodies making whatever.

True, but Bernie - and those nobodies making whatever - knew how to spend that cash wisely.

All the F1 media reporting some ferrari hambone deal rumour. I really hope not, throughout all my time watching F1 no matter who I'm supporting I want to see ferrari doing well. It may be the first time ever that I have to root for ferrari to fail miserably.
Hamilton+Tifosi=A set of dipshit fans the likes of which God Himself has not seen to date.

Ferrari would be better off figuring out if that 40 milly is enough to buy them Adrian Newey. Frankly, that will make a damn sight more difference.

I for one doubt Ferrari will take Hamilton in. You think he will get the treatment he gets at Mercedes? Plus at Mercedes he has his basically hand-picked crew while he would have to build that at Ferrari. He will rather stay at Mercedes to try to get his 8th title (though he might loose to Russell now)

Yeah but watch them turn on him when he doesn't instantly start winning. Then if he went on his usual blame everyone but him tirade he'd just dig a deeper hole. Nothing quite so fickle as the Tofosi.

I've seen both the LeClerc out and Sainz out variants of the story. If Sainz left it'd be funny watching Leclerc absolutely raping hambone's legacy.

Would Newey want to do this to himself, though?

I agree. As long as Daddy Toto is calling the shots at Mercedes, Hambone will most likely stay put.

The only team I could see Hambone moving to would be AM. Even then the chances are very slim as Alonso would have to break his contract. Unless babysitting Stroll the Younger gets too much, I can't see that happening.

This is why I'd love to see Hambone at Ferrari. Pig-headedness is part of Ferrari's DNA, and the last thing they want is for a disgruntled driver to start shooting their mouth off. Just ask Alain Prost.

The collision between Hambone's dick riders and the Tifosi would also be hilarious.

LeClerc seems to be have been fucked over by Ferrari harder than Sainz. Whilst a little bit less likely, it'd be more satisfying to see Sainz doing the buckbreaking.

I get the impression Fernando would put up with a lot to spite Lewis if it came down to that. And he genuinely seems to be having the time of his life right now.
And you're so very right. "WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS STRATEGY, MAN ALSO MY TIRES ARE GONE" would not go over well with the faithful.

I'm not Italian, so I'm not under any obligation to like the prancing donkey, but the idea of the image obsessed Ferrari trying to stop Hamilton from shittalking the team on the radio would be just too good.

If a world championship-starved Ferrari take a gamble on Hamilton, then that demonstrates a denial of the problems that are currently being faced by the team. From where I stand, these are an absence of both focused leadership and a clear sense direction. They already have two good racers, although Leclerc seems to have lost some confidence in himself, of late.

Any forward thinking team that is throwing work in the direction of an aging-out world champion should be looking for someone who can guide the development of their car, and mentor any younger drivers in their fold. Alonso is an asset in that regard, and is clearly having the time of his life. It's what you would wish for any beloved world champion - that Indian Summer.

Hamilton is a competent driver who, for almost the entirety of his career, has had cars designed around his needs. I have never got the sense of him being down there in the garages with his sleeves rolled up. I don't think he has it in him to forge a meaningful relationship with the boys and girls in the backroom, who he continually denigrates in public. He far is too arrogant to step into the big brother role as far as a teammate is concerned. Russell has more or less succeeded in spite of him.

So after a year of "F1 cars are complicated and there isn't one part that makes it a shitbox and the sidepods are just the most visible so it gets the most amount of scrutiny" they end up going with the popular down washing side pod?

Was it the sidepods all along?

Oh great we have the ultimate diversity hire (got into racing though muh gina, and into punditry though muh melanin) commentating practice.

Also as cool as the mclaren special livery is can we please stop with the majority white cars. There are too many just white paint jobs.

IMO the idea with the no-sidepod design is to minimize drag. In Monaco, the speeds never get to the point where it's worth running such a design especially because heat management always has been a major problem on this track.
