LewLew says the car is uncomfortable and he wants more downforce.

Hamilton being hurt by specific design element on W14 F1 car

(archive, since the site doesn't like adblockers)
The seven-time world champion has had a difficult start to the campaign, with Mercedes not delivering the step forward it hoped to be able to challenge Red Bull this year.

However, his situation has been further hampered by the fact that he does not appear as settled with the handling of the W14 as team-mate George Russell.

While he thinks his situation could be helped by the team bringing more downforce to its car, especially to make the rear more stable, Hamilton says there is something else inherent to the design that he is not happy with.

Speaking after finishing fifth in the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, one place behind Russell, Hamilton said his situation was something he had not experienced before.

"We're a long way down on downforce," explained Hamilton. "So we've got to pick up the rear end downforce particularly.

"The more rear we gain, the more stable the rear becomes, and the more confident I'll be able to attack.

"But I think in general, just this car, even if we do change that, there's a specific thing with something on the car that I have never had before.

"It's a position I've not had in previous years' cars. For me, it's the thing that is making me uncomfortable. I've just got to work hard to make sure it is changed."

Mercedes boss Toto Wolff admitted that the team was aware of the issue that Hamilton was struggling with, but said there was no swift fix for it.

"We have a fundamental issue he's not happy with, and that is linked to the way he feels the rear end of the car," explained Wolff, when asked by Motorsport.com about the problem.

"That's not something that can be cured quickly. The drivers are the most important sensors in the car and if they tell us that's what they feel, we need to consider that."

While Hamilton has not gone into details about what the problem is, the issue seems to manifest itself in making the car very uncomfortable for him when it is taken to the limit - especially in qualifying.

"It's on a massive knife edge when you're above about 95%," he said. "But when you're in a race stint, it's much more controllable and predictable.

"I still don't have the confidence in the race, but I'm doing the best I can with it."

While the start of the season has not been ideal for Hamilton, the team took some comfort in being able to beat Ferrari in Saudi Arabia last weekend.

Hamilton admitted he was surprised about that turn of events, although suspects the smooth track surface at Jeddah may have helped.

"It is definitely strange to see the Ferrari behind us, and it's positive for us," he said. "It's a different surface here, and we don't really understand why on this surface our car works one way, and it's different in another.

"But there's lots of positive to take from this weekend. It will be up and down throughout the first three races. Hopefully we can get some upgrades ASAP and try to close that gap to the Astons."

Hahahaha holy fucking shit. I can't believe it, Merc had an incorrect model in the wind tunnel all this time.

And there are changes at McLaren with James Key the executive technical director (former Alpha Tauri worker) leaving to be replaced by David Sanchez (retuning to McLaren after a decade at Ferrari) at the start of 2024 and a shuffle round of other members.

Someone needs to find the 'dismissed workers' and get the real story, ASAP.

I doubt they're catching that car without a technical change nerfing the red bull somehow. They both just drive into the distance following the safety car, that isn't pace you just find in a car.

Hopefully what it will do is have them pull further ahead of the merc. Vestappen and Alonso both beating hambone in the standings will send the lewlew fanboys insane.

I hope Alonso gets a win at some point then we can get rid of that retarded 300 GP stat and not have it be Hamilton like all the hambone morons were saying it would be.
Ironically the thing protecting Red Bull is the cost cap. Rd Bull have managed to build a good car with a lot of potential in 2022 and they managed to refine it for 2023. The rule changes in 2022 mid season nerfed Ferrari the most (probably covered up by Ferrrari's own engine downgrade) and the majority of teams haven't been able to unlock the secrets. Aston Martin have been able thanks to them hiring some Red Bull personel who have been involved in developiong the current gen car. But of course a copy can't beat the original especially if said original is allegedly running on only 80% most of the time. I really hope Ferrari gets their act together but with the personnel casino at the moment I expect them to be only number 4 this year. Especially since they can't seem to get tzhe tyre problems under control. Funny enough Leclerc was able to conserve his SOFT tyres better then Sainz his MEDIUM tyres. Perhaps only those work as intended on the Ferrari and the rest is simple shite

Yeah, the Cup booth guys are hyped for it since Gunther goes occasionally shoot his mouth.
Button is also driving in the COTA Nascar race I read a week or two back. Doing 3 races, if goes well may do full season in 2024.

Too late and too lazy to find article, but trust me bro.

Eddie Jordan is saying that apparently the sport needs Hamilton in a competative car and they should swap Leclerc and Hambone. That swap rumor has be swirling for a bit, and even though leclec has said no chance the media is still running woth it.

I personally wouldn't trust Eddie Jordan to tell a steering wheel from an engine in this sport (seriously he knows fuck all about a sport he was a team boss of for years, how the fuck does that even happen?). Plus he went BBC crazy over hambone's hamboner and can’t do anything other than complain that jambone isn't automatically winning and how that's terrible for F1.

I would love to see it thoigh.

Hamilton on the radio "man you really screwed me, this car is awful"

Vasseur: "thats nice here is your P45, you are not now nor will you ever be bigger than ferrari".

I mean why would red bull even contemplate it? They have Max who can outdrive hambone as demonstrated by hambone's desperate defending causing constant crashes in '21. Plus red bull have played the "2 main drivers" game before ending in a mess each time.

Hambone has 3 possibilities from here
1. Merc find some performance and he has a shot at wins again.
2. He retires relatively soon and can get a job either whinging as a pundit or join some gravy train NGO.
3. He spends the rest of his career trundling round in the mid field either staying with a buckbroken merc or making optimistic moves that never pay off ala Vettel or Ricciardo.

All the hambone fan/trash british media can cope all they want about hambone suddenly moving to a competative team but this year there is only one competative team and they wouldn't touch him with a bargepole.

Ferrari have their guys and I don't see them wanting hambone flouncing round being a prick in red. AM might be possible but hambone will have to accept not being the boss' favourite. McLaren are all in on the young guys (and drowning badly this year). Alpha Tauri are red bull lite so won't take him. Alfa Romeo/Aldi are swimming in chinabucks but might accept hambone as a bottas replacement fighting for 10th. Haas would be great, Hamilton would not like Steiner managing him and arent challenging the front. Williams are not exactly getting up the front anytime soon. Alpine have their all French lineup that they want and I can't see them just giving it up.

That on top of how much money/consessions he asks for. Like not wearing the team stuff around the paddock with the sponsor's logos on because he has his own personal brand of garbage to promote.

ETA: just saw a British tabloid claiming Vestappen to ferrari, leclerc to merc and hambone to RBR. That's some major copium right there. Why the fuck would Max leave when he has a long contract and a car that nukes the entire field? They are so desperate for little lewlew to be winning again they'll come up with anything that might make it happen in their mind.

Nelson Piquet got sued into paying 5 million Reais to a black-owned NGO.
Not even to Hamilton himself, to a goddamn NGO that put some litigation on him over the "neguinho" bullshit last year, allegedly over "moral damage".

What the sport needs is Hamilton out of a fucking seat. Fuck King Negro, and fuck NGOs, and fuck current year.

Hamilton's problem is that, even if the Mercedes does find some pace, he is being outperformed by a younger teammate. Russell is reaping the benefits of the years that he spent nursing a Williams around the end field. He knows how to drive a challenging car and he is seemingly immune to the belittling current of passive aggression emanating in his direction from the simmering prima donna on the opposite side of the garage. Hamilton's entire career in F1 has been build on a mostly rock-solid foundation of the best technology the engineers have to offer. I would be astonished if any feedback he is able to provide shows a deep insight into the underlying mechanics of his car.

He holds himself aloof in the paddock. He seems to have no friends in the sport and a dwindling pool of supporters. His recent sudden estrangement from his personal trainer, Angela Cullen, has elicited shrugged shoulders from those who are closest to him. Toto Wolff's guarded response is particularly telling.

I have a feeling that Hamilton will exit F1 hand in hand with Wolff (who increasingly looks like he is wearing a loose-fitting mask of his own face). If things don't go well and show no immediate signs of improvement then that could be soon. Wolff will ascend into some bespoke role in the upper echelons of the team where he will bellow edicts down from on high. Hamilton's problem is that he lacks the charisma and the entrepreneurial nous to be anything other than a small splash in the worlds of music and fashion. The success of his forays in these areas will likely follow the same template as his F1 career and lean heavily on backroom talent.

There remains the dangling carrot of an eighth world championship but is that realistic without sticking a knife in Russell's back? And are Mercedes still prepared to do that now that the bloom is off the Hamilton rose? He could change teams, but who among the frontrunners would have him? If you were in charge of one of the three top teams in F1 and could bring a former world champion on board - anyone from Alonso up to the present day - where would Hamilton be on your list? He underperforms. He's temperamental, stroppy and entitled. Besides his formidable legacy, he brings very little.

Before Hamilton exits motor-racing, I would dearly love to see him reconnect with his enthusiasm for the sport in another series. I don't want to remember him as the unhappy, rudderless character he has become.

He'll fuck off to some cushy NGO role where he gets money delivered in dump trucks to say "not nuff blacks" about whatever topic they want him to this week.
