New Sauber, first actual-ish car. I like the red and black.

The FIA noted that F1’s commercial rights holder, Liberty Media, “may also impose additional selection criteria/conditions (to be advised separately during the application process).” F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali has previously indicated his resistance to expanding the grid beyond its current 10 teams.
I guess this means Liberty will have the final say as to who gets an invite into the F1 paddock.

On this basis, you'd think Andretti is a no-brainer. Liberty has been pushing F1 into America really hard over the past few years (DTS, extra US rounds etc). A team that Americans can root for even if they have no idea how F1 works seems like a logical step for Liberty to take.

As for the other team... are any of the aspirants bankrolled by the Saudis? We all know how much of a hard-on Liberty has for staging races on Tilke tracks located adjacent to desert shopping malls.

F1 Won't Consider Red Bull-Ford a New Engine Supplier in 2026

FIA will only allow Red Bull Ford Powertrains to be given 90 percent of a new manufacturer's benefits.

Last week, Red Bull and Ford announced a partnership for the American automaker to join Formula 1 in 2026 as a power unit supplier. The Federation Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA), however, has poured a little rain on the Red Bull-Ford parade. International motorsport’s governing body has deemed the partnership not to be a new power unit manufacturer, which curtails benefits given to new entrants.

Instead the 2026 hybrid F1 power unit will be built by Red Bull Powertrains. While Red Bull’s independent power plant arm may have never developed an engine before the 2026 regulations, the company assembles the battery packs for its current Honda power unit. According to Motorsport.com, the FIA ruled out Red Bull Powertrains as a new manufacturer because of this experience.

How this all will work: Under F1’s regulations, regulators view new power unit manufacturers in three unequal parts for status approval. The engine maker’s infrastructure compromises 40 percent. F1 internal combustion engine competence is 50 percent of the assessment and F1 energy recovery system competence is only 10 percent.

As a new manufacturer, Red Bull Ford Powertrains would be given that entire resource budget. The FIA’s decision, however, will now grant only 90 percent of additional resources and Red Bull-Ford will lose out on 10 percent. The 10 percent loss of resources translates to about $2.5 million under the cost cap over the next three years and a $1.5 million loss in capital spending. Besides the financial hits, Red Bull Ford Powertrains will also lose technical resources, like allowed dynamometer time.

Considering that the electric motor will produce almost half of the 2026 F1 power unit’s total 1,000 horsepower output, a 10 percent reduction doesn’t seem appropriate. However, the regulations were crafted and agreed to by all the existing teams in Formula 1, so, at least they can’t say they didn’t see this coming.

Ferrari drop. I like the use of the carbon fibre, weight saving but looking good.

Also note the fins on the front wing. Merc was going to run something like that last year before a TD was issued. Probably compliant but could also be a 4d chess move to get other teams to waste time seeing if they're legal.

So only Merc to go tomorrow now.

Also interesting to note if I have it right: Ferrari seems to be the only team so far that goes with a different sidepod design. the rest seems to go with a smooth and hard at the end falling sidepod but Ferrari still uses their "pool" design. And Alpine also hasn't shown their car yet (presentation is due on Thursday)

The problem for Ferrari last year wasn't the lack of pace in their design, it was them finding a way to grasp defeat from the jaws of victory with alarming consistency. It makes sense for them to stick to a car concept that worked last year and focus on ensuring it evolves correctly without exploding half the time they get close to a win.

True. Though part of that was by their own design as they had overreved their engine with the caveat to make it reliable later. As they say "It's easier to make a fast engine reliable then a reliable engine fast" Also I just read that Ferrari seems to have reused a lot of part from last year as a concession to the Budget cap. Good thing their car was good last year. I just hope they have finally found the solution to combat the tyre graining. Speed is useless when your tyres give out

Haas uses the "bathtub" sidepods too. But they're the Ferrari B-team anyways.

Mercedes looks like they're still gonna cope with the zero sidepod concept though, we'll have to wait for their launch tomorrow.

Merc's gone on a diet, I swear over 2/3rds is bare carbon fibre. Looks nicer than last year with the bigger side pods which don't look like melted plastic and less bare floor showing.

Hopefully the gay ass wings disappear in the future, yes I know they're part of the crash structure...

That green on the wheels and for Russell's numbers is rough, they should've stuck with the crimson

I see Merc is still slim podding.

I like that Ferrari is sticking to the grooved pods + shark gills. I loved the look of those.

What I'm really waiting for are when the cars get hoisted up. Is everyone still on the simple looking floor or did everyone go for the super complex Red Bull solution.

I think most Teams had to redo their floor thanks to the new rules set by the FIA. Though seeing how most teams copied the Red Bull sidepod I suspoect they also tried to copy the Red Bull floor look. Though without Newey to explain how that works this might be a subpar solution

The W14 being black is more of a weight saving thing I suppose, Black Lives Matter isn't as relevant as it was in 2020 and 2021.
Aren't those hoodlums along with their buddies, the antifa(ggots) trotted out as POTUS election approaches? That's next year, so I expect some black guy's neck is about to get knelt on again.

It's mind blowing how the first two weeks of lockdowns managed to be the longest of my life, but the subsequent two and a half years actually managed to be the shortest.
