The problem with that is some teams would almost certainly pick their "actual" drivers and the rookie just ends up doing a couple of practices like we already have.

They would have to do some sort of segmented qualifying like split Q1 into two sets of 15 and the bottom 7 of each are eliminated giving 16 in Q2.

But it would make race day hectic with back markers and give teams an extra car's strategy to deal with.

I think the biggest point against it isn't the logistics of how the sport would work and more the expense of building a 3rd car (including the extra upgrades). Plus mechanics to work on it etc. It would help expensive fast and the likes of Williams would probably go under.

I recall they offered the 3rd car being optional and not scoring points as a compromise but the smaller teams didn't want that either because it would give the bigger teams that could afford it a free testbed for running development parts during a race and not losing points if it's way off the pace

In other news we're guaranteed the Hamilton cock sucking for the rest of his career (and probably after).

Ugh. I bet that means we keep Crofty and Co. in the US for that long. I miss us having our own commentary crew.

The reserve driver system on the other hand is a peculiarly F1 problem. Everyone has their own driver dev pipelines and are so uptight about 100% performance at every time you keep good drivers rattling around doing literally nothing. Over here you don't have anything of the sort. Your driver bisects his car and himself in practice, you get another driver - maybe you have a lower tier team you can pull from, but if not you can find someone. And they're usually not all that bad. It even makes for cool storylines about how this guy who never touched the car before scores a top 5. But heavily regimented F1 won't do that, for mostly bad (and some good) reasons.

I see Hamboy is glory-running in FP1 again. Obvious that he is since he's complaining about the car's handling, he was less than 0.1s off of Max, and Russell was about 5 tenths off the pace. Come the race, he probably won't even be on the podium.

Yeah, sky F1 were doing victory laps about hambone being ahead of Vetappen in FP1. That went away with FP2 of course.

When normalcy resumes and your mediocre deiver returns to mediocrity you have to take the wins anywhere you can I suppose.

Would be funny if Verstappen looses his title and Hamilton gets the "stolen" title back. Most likely not but imagine the "KARMA"!" tweets from Hamilton fanboys.

Also what goes the bet Lewis will again do the "Ouch my back" act after the Singapore race?

Well sky and hambone cock suckers are most definitely still coping.

It's only a rumor it even on Red Bull so would be hilarious if it turns out its actually Toto and his Mercedes factory work around that are going to bite them.

It would be interesting to see how this rule intersects with the rule about the championships given out at the gala are final.

According to the rules an exclusion from the chmapionship is possible. not sure if they want to open that can of worms though. Maybe we get a compromise like Mclaren did in 2007:
exclusion from the constructors championship and maybe even loose all the benefits in regards to transport costs and so on. That would still hurt

Oh come on, this is fucking stupid. If Max "loses" the 2021 WDC because his team overspent without his knowledge, I'm dropping the sport like a bad habit. You do not ratfuck who you have already recognised and awarded the 2021 championship to because of something which came to light almost a year later. Fuck off.

Well tell that to athletes and Tour de France drivers who doped but lost their titles years later.

In all honesty I agree. Let Max keep the title but strip RedBull of their constructors rank and prize money (or benefits) That would be fair imho

Mercedes won the constructor's last year. But even then, this is pretty dumb; After the mass reeeeeing over potentially challenging the title in court, both Mercedes and even Loois himself said they didn't want to, and that was honestly the right call. If they did strip Max of his title, I can't really see that being a popular decision with literally anyone except a few #teamLH twitter crazies.

Absolute worst I could see happen would be like after Spygate or Ferrari's sudden surge in 2019- If there's a violation, it'll get sorted out behind closed doors, as opaquely as possible, and we might see some 'unexplained' sandbagging later. (Not that I actually think it'll happen, it's just a funny thought.)

Conspiracy theorist reeing from me? Yes, but it's nice to post insane bullshit about F1 somewhere that isn't /sp/, now that the site's back up.

The difference is they knew full-well what they were getting into from the start. There's little reason to suggest Max Verstappen would hide knowledge that his team overspent, since it's not his job to design the car. It's his job to drive it.

If there is a WDC reversal, it sets a precedent that no F1 results are permanent and can be changed based on political decisions. I know for a fact CultLHers are itching for Piquet to have his championships revoked because they don't understand the meaning of the term "neguinho" for instance.

Well they said that but I think any way they could get it would be just great for them. Especially now Lewlew is both not looking on for his 8th anytime soon and even if they sort that car has a faster teammate to deal with.

Lewlew getting summoned to the stewards for the piercing going back in. DNQ his ass and do so for every race where he thinks he's bigger than the rules.

And if we're doing that then lewlew loses his 2008 championship and Massa is crowned. Lewlew only won that championship because he benefited from an actually fixed race.

Worthles F1 director be like "Last 90 seconds of Q1, let's remove the times from the grapics"

Guarantee they're just drumming up press for the championship this year, gotta appeal to their new Netflix fanbase with all the juicy drama (can't wait for Hammy to find a shoelace noose in the Merc garage)! Worst case scenario Red Bull gets a hefty fine or a handicap that isn't publicly acknowledged.

And that's assuming it even is redbull. This rumour about RBR and Aston Martin being over (one minor, one major) originated from a German motorsport outlet that is extremely German team (cough Mercedes) biased.

Ferrari almost ferraring things up by crashing the cars into each other in the pits.

F1 director moment: "Hey some cars have gambled on different tyres, better watch a Mercedes driving round on inters"
