On the one hand it's bad cause he's my turbo driver.

On the other hand his crash means Merc is out in Q2 with Russell ahead of Lewis.
I'll take it, to an extent. I've just always liked him, so it's a shame to see him wipe out again. Especially on Imola. Then again, I feel like seeing this on Q2 is something special, if fuck all else. I didn't think much of Bottas in the past, but it's nice to see him get somewhere, especially since no-one seemed to expect it.

they totally fucked up the engine
I'd say so considering the performance of all Merc powered cars. They're all struggling, and I don't think it's just aero issues. Ferrari still has porpoising and they're dominating.

The irony of Hamilton standing on a rainbow flag to show just how good a person he is is certainly not lost on me.

Of course, the drooling Hamilton simps on Reddit are lapping it up, calling it "cute".
FFS... The day he retires will be one of the best days in the history of the sport.

Damn, looks like this Quali was really intense.

Also huge props to Magnussen. Dude bins his car, causes a red flag, somehow manages to get back on track and starts from 2nd row.
And Verstappen, the absolute unit, does an insanely fast lap despite a yellow flag :story:

Vettel on 9 is also appreciated. Mick before Hamilton as well.

The Hamilton and Toto discussion did not look friendly or even all that cool. Toto was pulling big Abu Dhabi "no Micheal no" body language and hambone seemed less than composed in the interview after. Its not all happy families down at merc, it's easy when you're winning but now times are tough and the cracks are beginning to show.

I just watched a short clip, Toto doesn't look all too happy with Hamilton, maybe cause Hamilton threw in the towel?

Without trying to sound petty, but given the two people involved, I really would not mind a HUGE falling out between these two, especially if it means Russel is the new #1 in the team and the whole shitshow somehow makes him realize that he doesn't want to be an ingrateful shithead like Hamilton.

If memory serves that happened because Lewis got out of his car when there was a red flag with like 3 mins left in Q2, right? Let me check the qualy on tape... I wonder if there was some safety aspect to it, like Lewis was concerned for driver safety and said "I'm not gonna drive anymore today" but Toto wanted him to drive on.

Well, safety concerns or throwing in the towel, either way bad for the team.

I mean, the other drivers clearly still drove, but maybe their cars aren't as much of a ride on a razor when it comes to suddenly losing the car and slamming it into a barrier...

I don't think it was not driving on, there was zero chance of getting out of Q2 once the rain started falling. Russell didn't go out again either. The commentators speculated on it being that but that explanation doesn't make sense to me for that kind of bust up.

I think Lewis made some sort of comment, his "every race is a recover race" comment in the interview afterwards gives an insight into his current mood and making any sort of comment like that to Toto when he's well aware and trying to rescue the sinking ship wouldn't go down well.

Maybe he got out and said something like "what's the point anyway" or "you guys fucked me over again", who knows with a lewlew sized ego but it definitely seemed to trigger Toto.

Well in an interview after the qualifiyng Hamilton basically said "the team fducked up" He might have put it more politely but that was the essence. Sure the car looked horrible, Russell was bouncing up and down like you wouldn't believbe it. But the same goes for Ferrari. Though the Ferrari seems to be much more forgiving in that regard. Funny too that except Ferrari all teams brought small and big upgrades. And Ferrari is still on the top (well unless one of their drivers bins the car on the freaking wall)

Yeah, he said "I think we underperformed as a team today. Um...I...Yeah. There are things that we should have done, that we didn't do...anyways."

I suspect when Lewis and Toto was talking it were along the lines of Lewis saying you should have done this or didn't do that and Toto didn't like that. My take on it.

Whatever, nice to see! LOL But what a fucked up session. Should make for both an exciting Sprint and Race on various fronts. Will Merc come out of weekend pointless? Will George beat Ham? Can Mag/Alonso/McL get a podium? Sainz and Perez out of place and will have a battle to get top 4. And the fight between Max and Charles continues. With an added possibility of rain at some point during GP?

Quite an enjoyable Sprint race, Max' overtake on Leclerc was surreal, how did he keep that car on the tarmac?

Also Mick ended up close to Magnussen, so that's always nice and Hamilton keeps on floundering while Russel at least manages some small scale success.
