About 50 years ago my grandmother told me, "Money is the ruination of the world." I was just getting to be old enough to start school then, but for some reason that always stuck with me (besides her telling me she knew a little girl who was bad and the devil reached in a window at night and pulled her hair, to put some fear in me so I didn't act retarded! LOL).
Now I understand what she meant. The amount the common man makes compared to the 1% is just ridiculous. Someone will buy a Pokemon card for $36000, or buy a banana taped to a wall for a 150K, or a guy gets a three year contract to play baseball...for $140 million (I remember when the first $1 million contract was signed by someone (40 years ago or so IIRC).
But that's nothing compared to good old F1! Driver contracts, yeah I think they should make as much as they can given every time they do their job they risk injury or death (numerous precedents for that in racing don't you know!) so have no prob with that. If a dude can shag flies and swing a bat 20 or 30 times a night and get paid same as Hamilton, then drivers should get waayyyy more than they do using that logic.
But the drivers are nothing compared to the guys who buy an entire team so their kid can race, while there are other drivers without a mega rich dad who are much better than those who are driving based on the $$$ behind them. Or, to bring it back to topic, these wealthy sandrats who can drop enough cash that they essentially buy their way in to the schedule, while there are many other great tracks that would offer fantastic racing and depending on venue, have a history of hosting F1 races.
Its the way of the world now. Money talks. And more you have it the louder you are and the more will listen. F1 is for the rich and famous and powerful. Everyone involved, except for the grunt workers that bring a televised F1 race to you, are raking in the dough. Even the broadcast people like Pinkham, Brundle and Lazenby et al probably make a good chunk of quid.
I guess its all what they call progress?? Just too bad so few on the planet lead/live that lifestyle. I am sure if I had a billion to spare and called up those in charge of F1 and said I wanted to host a race and would give them a billion to come, they'd do it. I'd make it like the Avus GP that ran on the autobahn with two hairpins and use a highway outside the city! LOL Don't worry, I'd grease another 100 million to the local politicians to give me the permit and allow me to do it.
Enough on that nonsense. So, my teams were 1st & 2nd this weekend in the fantasy game! Since I had Max and Lewis as Megas, makes sense. Sadly, too little too late, but definitely got a bit closer to 3rd with that haul, only 17.5 out. My other team moved up one spot to 6th, only 4.5 ahead of Coccyxs team. Those are the closest battles left.
@New Fag lead is over 300, so I am pretty sure FRR can't surpass you now.
In real world racing, its pretty clear whoever finishes ahead will win. The only way they can stay tied on points after the race is if Lewis gets P9 and Max P10 with FL. That would keep them tied, Max would win title based on # of wins. But the chance of that happening is pretty much non-existent. Oh yeah! There is another way they can end tied on points. If BOTH DNF. Hmmmmmmm... Unless Max can take Ham out without it looking like Schumi/JV '97 I don't think he would do it deliberately as that would likely cause some serious shitstorm and if it is blatant, it would tarnish his image to some degree. While a postrace penalty wouldn't matter, a DSQ from the standings, like they did with MSC, would be quite likely.
The WCC is Mercs' for sure, RB have to come 1-2 and Merc get zip basically for them to lose the title to RB. As for the big one, I hope Max solidly beats him and there is no crying about some cheating, favoritism or other garbage. If Max wins, even if everything is entirely clean next weekend and no controversies, how much crying and pouting do you think Toto/Ham will still do if they lose?
What are you guys hoping to see this weekend...a great scrap down to the last lap, Max running away with it (or Lewis, IF anyone in this thread likes him! LOL), someone else winning the race, or Senna/Prost in to first corner or similar type situation between the two of them?
