That would be quite bad for f1 as I've heard that there is a minimum # of cars clause in contracts with circuits and possible others. Won't happen though.

I doubt the FIA will increase the penalty. The worst thing what'll happen would be a stern telling off behind closed doors of 'don't do it again'.

I'd enjoy them increasing the penalty just so I could laugh at the whiners.

All this would be way less of an issue if there was no cost-cap and limitation on usage of PUs and so on.
By crashing out your opponent, you essentially gain an advantage down the line. FFS this acts as an incentive to do exactly that: Crash out your opponent when they have a new PU/KERS etc when you're still running an old one that's sure to blow up soon anyway.

With a cost-cap, F1 needs a reimbursement mechanic in cases like this.

This is what happens when the teams get a say on the rules 'this is fine our competitors will be worse off than us' literally happened with the 2014 engines, they all thought they would be merc and wanted to lock in that advantage.

The minimum is 16 so RB and AT could withdraw and it would be fine from that stand point. They won't leave of course, but it would be quite the panic at liberty media.

If they do drop below 16 then team have in their agreement that they go to 3 car teams which would certainly be interesting (and budgetary destruction for smaller teams).

Turns out Wolf wasn't just nagging Masi to read an email but it was also nonsense.

Pretty much as expected. I didn't think there would be significant new evidence that the stewards didn't have access to at the time. They get all the GPS and telemetry data.

The only new info would have been get Max in there as he was being medically examined at the time so they didn't have access to that information but then what would have been significant about what he has to say?

Unfortunately the stewards made the right decision of blame but the wrong decision over the scale of penalty to apply, it was never going to get to a review as an obvious mistake.
 
There was never much of a chance for this decision to be revoked. At best, this could be a strategic decision to be used in the future, when Max just boots Hamilton off the track in the future.

Is that a photo of the old Hockenheim Ring?
That track is marvelous (especially before they added chicanes to the long straights), but the track's length caused some safety concerns, quite a shame.

It's tracks like that, that I miss dearly.

I have Google Earth on my desktop so reminisce over this satellite image from October 2000 where the two lengthy straights through the forest still have the track.

Wolff was banding around a couple of drivers as "deserving" of a Williams seat so I wouldn't be suprised if they give him what he wants.

Vandoorne shouldn't be back but if merc are pushing for it then he probably will be in as another also ran rather than bringing in young tallent from F2.

I really wish the people commentating this sport would actually watch what they're commentating. Having a good 2 minute discussion over what tyres Bottas would use while the car is on the screen with a very visible yellow stripe on the tyres.

Let me guess no unnecessarily slow investigation against Hamilton. He knows the car can't carry him to the championship this year.

Nah they have a display on the wheel for delta times so it would be just inside the limit. Max's fate was sealed the moment he exited behind the Mercs.

Wonder how the hamfans are going to rationalise this bit of cynical driving as a masterclass?

That last outlap was frustrating to watch, although the booing afterwards was lovely to hear.
 
I tried to think of a way of writing this post, but there's no way to: Marshal dies at Brands Hatch during BritCar support race. A car lost control across the start line and rolled into the marshals post, driver and marshal were both cut out of the remaining wreckage and air-lifted to hospital.

There was a large crash at Spa too, as part of the 24 hour race - four cars involved, all drivers okay.

It has been a bad couple of weeks for racing - both on two and four wheels - I might need to take a break.

Stof and Nyck are both quite good drivers and their main problems have been that they've been in the FE doghouse for quite a bit. If there was an 11th team on the grid at the moment, they would be amongst the first ones to get a call to be a driver for them.
 
Ted is saying the rain is definitely coming!

He just said it is starting lightly now.

I hope they start on the tires they have on now and not all switch to inters/wets before the race. I want to see 4 or 5 laps under dry conditions before the rain starts enough to switch.

PLEASE let this be one of the top 3 races of 2021! 🙏

That plus the mercs are on the mediums which will be awful compared to the softs in cold, damp conditions.
 
Yeah, that's why I want racing to start dry. I'd love to see both RBs get ahead of the 2 Mercs and Checo drive in a way like Lewis did when he lost 2016 title to Nico. Let Max get a 10 second lead or so before needing to pit.

Depending on what it is doing before the need to commit to starting tires, I'd love to see one or two risk starting on the weather tires and hoping the rain is heavy enough everyone has to pit on L1 or L2. That'd be kind of fun for a bit. Someone like Tsunoda or even Alonso starting on wets would be great if they inherited the lead. Sort of like Winkelhock did in his one and only race. The red flag unfortunately killed what would have been a spectacle sadly. He had a good 20 second lead if my memory is somewhat correct.
 
Unfortunately no Brundel means having to know what's going on yourself because Croft and Rossberg will be too busy talking about a duck they saw to talk about anything relevant to the racing. Like Q2 where it took them til after the ad break (and someone telling them) to realise Max had set his fastest time on softs.
