I encountered one of these pancake enthusiasts in a fb group I'm in. He sperged and posted shitty memes and YouTube videos that "debunk" all round earth theories. At first I thought he was a troll, but he posted nonstop for like 4 days straight in a Marijanesque shitposting tirade throwing hissy fits and blocking anyone who provided a sound arguement he couldn't easily "prove" wrong. His reasoning for why we are being lied to about the shape of the earth is to keep us in the clutches of Satan and away from god.

Block everyone who has sound arguments because you don't have proof... SOUND!

What I don't understand about these people is they criticize us globecucks as brainwashed stooges who take "science" at face value.

While they themselves require just a handful of clickbait articles and Facebook memes to decide we live on a giant fucking pizza.

Do they have an answer as to why the fuck you don't reach the edge of the flat Earth when you keep going straight?

The model they propose is one where Antarctica lines the Earth's circumference. I guess they figure that continent is so inhospitable no one can actually make it to the literal edge of the word.

They probably regard Antarctic expeditions with the same disdain and skepticism they do towards space exploration.

I'm just kind of baffled by these people. There are satellites you can literally see with the naked eye when the light is right.

Holograms.

I mean, these people believe Antarctica is a giant ring 25,000 miles in circumference. Don't put anything past their idiocy.

They probably got that idea from a top down projection map of the globe where it only appears to be a ring around everything.

No surprise, space hoax and moon landing denialists often team up here, as both have a common goal in discrediting each other's flaws,

The Earth is flat, those round photos from space are a hoax, space travel isn't possible, less we find out the Earth is flat...

A moebius strip of stupid..

Here's an interview with Daniel Shenton, the self-proclaimed President of the IRL Flat Earth Society; according to him I think he claims the website is 'unofficial', so not sure how many folks there are true believers, or just trolls:

The most difficult thing about browsing these forums is the understanding that nothing you say or do can help them understand. They are willfully ignorant because of their faith and as a result all of their understanding about the world around them will be warped to match this description.

Like, with people who are just stupid or crazy, you know there's a way to educate them or help them in some way. I think Chris could even become semi-normal if he went into a tolerant group home and away from Barb, but you can't talk sense into religious crazy.
Or tumblr crazy...although I don't think there's a difference. SJWism is a religion.

I don't understand one of these comments. Most of them are just normal pseudoscience crazy but one is beyond the pale.

The Mercator projection is considered a rough estimate at best. It's by no means the most accurate way of representing the world, it's just an easy visualization. That's not even "nomral" Flat Earth levels of crazy, that's just regular ignorance. How did you get to teach a class involving science/geography/history without knowing about the various kinds of maps used in different contexts because of the difficulty of functionally representing a 3D sphere in certain situations? Even if you're willfully ignorant that should be fundamentally impossible.

I remember in school they SPECIFICALLY told us that all the projection maps were flawed, but the idea wasn't to get a perfect map of the world, just one close enough for daily use.... so it's shortcomings were accepted.

It's not like airline pilots or ship captains or military commanders are using those things to make decisions on where to go...

It's just like how the fundies freak out that evolution is taught in schools because it's a "theory". Yeah, but it's the best fit for the current evidence until a better idea comes along. The fact it isn't perfect is not proof of some conspiracy.

I just found this video about these flat earthers. More of a good cringe but hey its entertainment for other Kiwi's

The filmmaker in that very first clip is a giant tool. Aldrin actually did eventually clock him. He tried pressing charges but the judge made him apologize to Aldrin instead.

I know right? There was a later clip of the same guy getting kicked out by a painter
