Basically, they reject the model of Earth as a sphere, globe, etc. There is also much debate as to whether the Earth is a square sheet, rectangular, or an unfolded dodecahedron, and so on. But the most accepted model amongst the flat earthers is that of the world as a disc.

In this model, the disc's center is at the North Pole, and the South Pole doesn't exist. Instead, Antarctica is an ice wall preventing the oceans from falling off the edge of the world.

Also, flat earthers generally believe that space travel is fake, photographs that show the earth as a sphere or having a curved horizon are fake, and that NASA is a conspiracy to keep people from knowing the truth that the earth is flat.

I remember going to that forum years ago and the impression I got was that they were like incredibly passive trolls. Like they more treat the flat-earth concept as a game against people to see how long they can pull off being a contrarian about it. I'm sure there are some genuine nuts on the forum, but for the most part I want to believe it's a joke.

Basically, Obama is funding NASA to make us believe that the Moon exists and that the Earth is round in order to bring about his Nazi world government that will take all our guns away so that we will all be sacrificed to the Sun God that Copernicus worshiped who is actually Satan. And only those who believe the Bible and believe that the Earth is flat will be saved from all this. Seems legit.
 
The only thing that changes in that conspiratorial NASA-hides-the-truth drivel is the name of the current President, like how the right-wingers believe NAFTA/FEMA is going to shoot everyone any day now, just look at these leaked documents that prove (current president) is in on the whole thing!!!!

Once you live long enough to see the same arguments recycled almost verbatim, it ceases to be fun and just becomes incredibly boring.

So, on a mercator projection map, where's the "real" end of the world? it's got to be in one of the oceans, right? Otherwise, the powers that be would have to do a lot of covering-up and nefarious backalley shootings to cover up the fact that two or more countries shown sharing a border, sometimes fighting over it, don't really exist, right?

So which ocean is the fake?

And where are they REALLY flying those thousands of people who cross them every day in airliners?

I know I won't get an answer, but the degree to which these people don't think about such details is staggering.

I suspect that some of the folks on the website are trolls; for what it's worth there was a real Flat Earth society started in the 1800s by some Englishman named Samuel Rowbotham called the "Zetetic Society". Apparently he based his theory on some bizarre interpretation of the Bible.

Apparently the society had a successor as well, started in the 1950s by a successor named Samuel Shenton; and it was headed by a guy named Charles K. Johnson up until he died in 2001. Here's an old newspaper from the 1980s that published an interview with him:

Apparently the original Flat Earth society was completely real; I'm not sure the logic, but I think part if it had something to do with some ridiculous literalistic reading of the Bible (e.x. "the Bible says Jesus ascended "up" into heaven, so if the earth is round this means there is no up or down, therefore the Earth must be flat").

But regardless there are probably only about 12 or so of these folks still in existence, and no one takes them remotely seriously, so no one has to worry about them teaching flat-earth in schools. We should be way more worried about people teaching children that sex isn't decided by science, just by personal feelings.

I know the difference. I merely brought it up because they're the same flavor of ignorant, illogical, r.etarded pseudoscience bullshit. Obviously if you're inside of a hollow sphere you're NOT on a flat terrestrial body.

Ok, I hate to go to bat for lunatics but... if you believe the earth is flat, you also probably believe Mercator is a load of bullshit (I mean it is, but that's neither here nor there, and I won't bore you with cartography sperging). They probably believe the world looks like this.

Just extended all the way to Antartica and not a globe. It would, if you are an idiot, explain away how cross continental travel works, and even how nations consider the north pole to be strategically signifigant. Now of course if you ACTUALLY try to navigate it you're going to run into some serious issues (Such as extreme lateral distances as you go south), but I'm saying it becomes workable to the level where it's merely stupid, not batshit retarded like believing the earth is a fucking rectangle.

Edit: By the way, as a funfact, this particular hemisphere projection perfectly illustrates how doomed Columbus would have been if America didn't exist. See his peers didn't think the earth was flat, they knew it was round, and actually knew roughly how big it was, thanks to math. Columbus thought it was much smaller, since he was a self taught cunt and thought he knew better than all the normies.

If America didn't exist Columbus would have starved to death because look how much fucking further the far east is, and everyone would remember him, if at all, as "the dumbass who sailed into the endless ocean".
