Imma necro this thread, cause I recently watched a preview of yet another boomer shooter and it reminded me of the last Realms Deep(which is an event hosted by 3D Realms and is mostly devoted to showcasing boomer shooters), and it featured around 100 new games, and about half of them looked well made, and I don't think anybody's gonna have time to play all of them.
With all those games competing for attention of an already niche audience, I feel like the boomer shooter trend is about to peak or has peaked already, with market becoming oversaturated in the next 1-2 years.

Also, Dusk was fucking boring. If you're making an arcade shooter, at least add unusual weapons, and not the same stuff we've seen a million times already.

Blasphemy. Dusk is a god damn masterpiece.

Dusk is good but overrated, the only reason it got big it's because it was the first (or one of the first) nu-Boomer Shooters to get it mostly right.

Not the best genre, but some Call of Duty, Killzone, Turok, Resistance, and Metroid Prime games are exceptions.

I want to play the first person shooter, someone should make a game like that. Maybe you're someone working at a soviet prison, death row, every now and then you get a note with a name. It's their time. You wait until night when everyone is sleeping, approach the person in his bunk, pop him in the head. The other prisoners won't blame you, they know it's your job and that one day you will come for them.

Yeah this is just the Soviet levels in NOLF2

This is a pretty fun low budget horror flick plus it has the guy who voiced Caleb from Blood voicing the main character entirely in Caleb's voice.

There's the classics like Wolf 3D Doom Doom II and Duke 3D. That's the ones I played in the late 90's and early 2000's. I never even heard of Blood and Shadow Warrior till much later. Even then I never played them till the mid 2010's. I never had PC in the 90's so I could only play Doom on the SNES or at a friend's house that had PC with a copy of the Doom games and Duke 3D. I did play Duke 3D on the PS1 in the late 90's. I do have Blood and the original Shadow Warrior now. I played them a but not too much.

Doom 2016
Doom Eternal
Quake
Amid Evil
Dusk
Turok
Turok II

Really any of the retro styled shooters on Steam are good. I even have the remaster of Power Slave, but I haven't played it yet. Even Call of Duty and the Modern Warfare games were good at one time. I still have Black Ops 1 installed. I wanted the remaster of Modern Warfare 1 but I wasn't about to buy a new shitty Modern warfare game just to get the remaster of an old good one. Most of my games on Steam are FPS.

I dunno, I think Ultrakill is way too far up its own ass. Cool soundtrack though.

Stronghold Doom owns, and you can just play that for free. Also a cool soundtrack (this is usually how I judge games.)
I have it on my Wishlist. I have a few of the retro boomer shooters.

Metal Hellsinger looks good. But I don't care for that type of metal. If it was more like Doom 2016 or what Andrew Hulshult did for the Doom Eternal DLC It would be better.

SiN is a sleeper, people fawn about Alice and other games forgotten for reasonable reasons, but I think SiN was more enjoyable than Half-Life.

I'm sure somebody will mod it eventually to where you can play whatever songs you want.

Well, hopefully. They do have Holy Fawn (who I love) but most of those bands kinda suck.

I played Postal: Brain Damaged recently, it's really good in terms of level, weapon and enemy design(some weapons and enemies are homages rip-offs from other games, though. Sure, it's lampshaded/played for laughs, but it's still kinda annoying). Most of the time its humor falls flat, though, it's overly reliant on already stale memes like corona, karens, "thing go brrr", etc. Although when I first saw the 5G sirenhead, I laughed out loud.

Anyway, any news about Realms Deep 2022? Last year it was in August, and now it's August already, but there still hasn't been an official announcement yet.

Would recommend the marathon series though warning for 1 because the level design is a fucking nightmare and frankly just read the story summary for 1 play 2 and infinity though they're kino
