But as a matter of fact the game doesn’t explicitly state he does, it just doesn’t specify a cap some of the time while remaining logically consistent with the cap we’re told exists the rest of the time.

And Dimitri already promised to pursue reform so that’s what we’re meant to believe in if we follow the Lions over the Eagles (which I think this debate is, as ever, a proxy for).

Inb4 the whole cast are remixes of the 3H cast somehow.

I mean playing with the descendants of that cast feels like an obvious win, and maybe a lot of time is passed so they can be coy about the overall aftermath.

But if we do run into green-eyed Von Aegirs it, and things like it, would play well with the fans.

But it could also be less literal. Mixing and matching just ‘cuz it reuses proven concepts.

I actually have some hope that the shitty haircut dude isn't the protagonist due to his Aubin crest and him appearing as a green unit in some gameplay. The Sothis cutscene also occurs in the first person which they typically do to save money because they don't wanna have 2 cutscenes between the 2 genders. I also don't think they'll just give up on a female protagonist option after all this time.

Sylvain has 6 possible endings. Felix's ending is fujobait nonsense that I'm just gonna ignore. By himself or with Mercedes/Ingrid, the text used is "...Relics and Crests were not necessary as they had previously thought." In all endings, Fodlan is united in to one political entity at the end of the story, meaning "nobles" applies to nobles across the united Fodlan. The statement doesn't even include the word "as" before "necessary," so they conceded that their viewpoint was almost entirely correct.

With Dorothea, the nobles actually concede that the Crests only won't be an absolute requirement, even in Black Eagles. This is incredibly strange to me and I'll just concede that he doesn't end crest discrimination here at all because of it.

In his paired endings with F!Byleth, there are no mentions of his work on Crests outside of Black Eagles. The other endings focus on his efforts to assist Byleth in either stabilizing the new United Kingdom of Fodlan, or his work making reforms through the church. The Black Eagles ending is particularly odd because Edelgard's war was supposed to create the crestless meritocracy. It also omits their contribution to the mole war, which most Black Eagle endings don't. I genuinely have no idea what to make of these.

Conclusion: Whoreothea holds my boy back. In an ideal world I will never think about this topic until the sequel.
 
With my claim of Cai's friend glasses, I was under the incorrect assumption that the game may be a prequel centuries before Three Houses. Given more information, I believe the game is most likely a sequel. I still think there will be time travel, mostly because of the Divine Pulse, I'm certain that will make a return. Given the information from the Japanese Nintendo site, it says this when translated:

Given this, I longer think that Cai or his friend are from a different timeline or world.

Perhaps Cai's father was someone important, that decided to retire in the countryside. But then his past caught up to him, maybe he was arrested or was forced to go somewhere against his will. This is probably why Cai wants to fight in the "Heroic Games," so that he can save his father after gaining the "wish" from winning. Given his father potential importance, maybe this is why Cai was seen using a crest, it was most likely inherited from his father.

Cai, Dieretch, Theodora, and Leda can all access the convoy storage. Could this mean they are mutually exclusive characters (not counting Cai), much like the three lords from Three Houses? Or perhaps is this a Radiant Dawn situation where we will have multiple parties? Also, during the Leda gameplay section, Cai and his friend are green units. I believe the star icon I mentioned before is actually an icon noting that the character is the leader of the army, and thus is a game over condition if they die.

Dietrich has the personal skill Murderous Intent, the same skill that Jeritza has. His sword may have the Rafail Gem on it, which bears the Crest of Lamine, the same crest of Jeritza's family. Due to his connections to the Fodlan, I believe him on the boat is showcasing how he arrived to this new land. It would also explain why his design looks more medieval and European compared to the rest of the new character designs.

Dieretch's sword reminds me a lot of the Blutgang in terms of appearance. I doubt they are the same sword or are related, but there is a slight resemblance.

In the back of Leda's attire there could be a reference to the Crest of Timotheos, the same crest as Hapi. Given how Leda has a connection with demonic beasts, this may be true. But it very well could be a mere coincidence.

I'm gonna summon Occam's razor and say it's more likely IS made some shitty anachronistic designs than they are planning some deep isekai/time travel shenanigans with those 2

Weird conclusion given the endings you’re defending are with two coalburners, and Dorothea's ending says this about her. Doesn’t sound like “she held him back” is the right conclusion:

This isn’t Civ where, now united, everyone cares about the Sreng conflict and see its resolution, when it previously never affected them, as a turning point. And again, Nobles elsewhere saw Crests as Power and Status while Gautier regions were the exception due to proximity to the Sreng. This is explicitly stated when explaining why Sylvain’s brother was passed over as a unique factor. And the Ingrid/Mercedes endings say the Nobles saw them as “necessary”. So obviously it’s referencing Nobles who think like Nobles among Gautier regions. For just about everyone else it’s painted as a matter of prestige.

Also the exact wording is “nobles were persuaded”. Not “the nobles” and not Nobles as a proper noun either. It is definitely not explicitly saying The Nobility writ large. Just some plural of nobles. A limit is implied with this one weird trick

Just started playing Fates finally. I'm only 7 chapters in. I got the special edition and chose Hoshido or whatever because apparently that's what you do for your first playthrough.

I have to ask. Are the characters acting like retards for a story reason? Every other line is someone vacuum sucking the semen right out of Corrin's dick and it's kind of taking me out of the story. The only character with any depth so far is the archer guy who hates Corrin and the blue singing lady because he FUCKING HATES NOHR. Every other character can be summed up as "loves Corrin a whole lot and also maybe another thing, but mostly Corrin".

I know it's an anime game so great characters aren't exactly the norm, but the writing feels bad on purpose. I also played a decent amount of Awakening and it's basically the same story (extra special stranger with amnesia shows up and is instantly given a position of power and trust for no reason) but less bad, so I'm wondering if this is some sort of subversion thing. Also the story in Shadows of...V-something was actually pretty good, so I know they can write.

Yeah Fates writing is… not good.

The Hoshido route has the more traditional Fire Emblem story, albeit with a nice coating of Weeb, but the entire cast is almost entirely interchangeable. Outside the Lords I struggle to remember literally anyone but Kaze and Rinkah.

The Nohr cast is… better is a strong word, less retarded feels like a better descriptor, but its countered by its story being by far the weakest of Fates routes.

We don’t talk about Revelations.

Probably the best description I’ve heard for Fates is “It fell on its face so 3H could do the Routes better”, which ymmv so…
 
I remember crests were pretty retarded plot wise. Being so limited they didn't serve a lot of purpose when seemingly people without a crest could be just as strong. It doesn't help the plot boils down to some fifth faction responsible for everything bad so everyone will be a dindu.

all of the writing in fates is like infamously bad. Hoshido/birthright gameplay is pretty mid but conquest is one of the best times you can have with fe, gameplay wise. This is a pretty widely held opinion. The music in fates is good, too.

You depended on a vague assertion of plurality ("nobles were persuaded") that only means two or more. Obviously if I am citing the Endings directly I don't need it explained how many non-fujo endings he has. We both knew which three were relevant, and two of those three are basically redundant to one another in terms of what they say. You were trying to look more informed and authoritative. You cared.

Best way to experience it. I think the writer was expecting to make a saga and a lot of this is the result of crunching that down? But someone else knows better than me I’m sure.

I'll throw Conquest a bone with its story. If you're good at handling cringe - meaning if you ever enjoyed watching stuff like MST3K, Best of the Worst, Mister Metokur, even old Nostalgia Critic - Conquest is probably the best FE narrative experience you could have. Just view it as a budget black comedy and you can easily entertain yourself more than IS ever could.

The story contrives all sorts of implausible ways for Corrin to avoid killing everyone, but then he runs into Kaden and the furry brigade, and instantly decides to put them all out of his misery.

Here’s a deep lore : the original script was written by a manga author - forgot the name- and he wrote like 2000 pages total for all routes. Unfortunately, some fuckhead decided against the draft and locked the whole thing inside a vault, until their asses get Teraleaked somehow there is no way for us to know what’s in there.
With that said IS did share few points about what was in there:
  • Fucking Hinoka wasn’t originally there at all. I find this extremely hilarious because it does explain why she barely has any presence in Birthright and especially Rev. Unless if you actively fielded and supported her ass you will forget about her existence until the final cutscene.
  • Sakura was basically another Elise
So yeah, Fates was completely butchered because they found it funny.

Idk dude, "it was actually well written but someone fucked it" is one of the most common explanations of low quality in media, and rarely it is shown to be the case. The setting itself was really childish and having the good side be outright Japan analogy means any chance of having actual grey and grey moral is zero.

In Fire Emblem the writing might as well be black and white since the games always cuck in having actual moral issues and differences in worldview.
