You make some compelling points. I guess it turns out I had higher expectations than I thought for character development. Do most players play on permadeath? Im curious if you know the answer.

I think that was also one of the reasons 3H was so good at capturing people's attention since it did try to make the side-characters more
I could never get into 3H. Should I give it another try?

I dunno. Tharja predated the wide recognition of “I can fix her” retardation. I think they just made an off-beat girl who is horrible but it made her memorable and fun because some toxicity is hot and popularity is often a race to the bottom.

I just think she’s boring.
I don't know about toxicity, Tharja is an Egyptian goth girl with see through clothes.

Tbf, the only ones who actually acted like a pack of niggers were the ones in Engage (except for Zelkov) and Dedue.
That's not fair to Dedue. The man can cook, he's an avid gardener, and he never once raises his voice outside of battle, much less actually hurt somebody that wasn't actively trying to kill him. Comparing him to a nigger just because he's swarthy isn't right.

Play FE4 to see what 3H ripped off. Though it won't hold your hand like modern FE will, so beware.
"I don't want black people in this game"
Because it doesn't make sense in the context of the setting?
"No! I HATE NIGGERS!!!"
Por que no las dos?

It doesn't help that the japs typically have shit worldbuilding. The caucazoid-featured negroids from Awakening were northern barbarian shitums in an icy wasteland with barely any sun, but somehow looked like the most abyssal Botswana resident... just no logic used whatsoever, only quotas, toss them around like dice... John Tolkien weeps at the lazy worldbuilding.[/ISPOILER]

Yeah, but him secretly feeding a few of key members of your rear guard some Crest Stones is a bit of an dick move when you're not in on it

Were those soldiers unwitting victims though? The script makes it sound like they willingly used the stones (behind Dimitri's back admittedly) out of a desperate effort to hold back the Imperial Army that had already conquered everything else in their path.

Nowadays, pure Permadeath players are a minority of FE players, but the feature is so iconic that IS can't really just axe it so they've spent the past three titles experimenting with different ways to work around its limitations because they're trying to emphasize side-characters more. I'd wager most oldheads still use permadeath 4/5 times, but I think a lot of the newcomers don't shift off of it.

3H is really a case of ymmv. I think it's a bad Fire Emblem game but would have been an amazing start for a new SRPG franchise. Writing-wise, comparatively, I'd say it's lows are lower than Awakening's but it's highs are heads-and-shoulders higher than Awakening's, both story and characterwise. The thread sperging out whenever Dorothea or Edelgard/Dimitri are so much as mentioned is unironically one of the best endorsements I can give it.

Probably, but chances are that they didn't really know the exact consequences of going through with it; since Rhea was very keen on keeping what happened to Miklan an secret.

It doesn't matter how they act, they are there because of wokeness, they are esthetically unpleasing. Can you guys stop making excuses for this shit. This stuff is in the game so you get more accepting of them, so they can import more of these creatures into our countries. And the real ones don't act nice at all, Iryna Zarutska!!!

Disgusting!
