Thank You for the free content,

This gamer shrine soylennial has been rec'd to me before. It was a video about how Mangs, FEU, and reddit trannies have a significant stranglehold on the culture of the fandom. That video weirdly doesn't seem to be on the channel anymore, so I can't prove it.

Not as compelling as 4cuck porn addict swiss-cheese-for-brains talking points, I guess. Point is, I thought that was an interesting choice of topic because it sounded a lot like one of my specific spergouts in this thread, which I initially chalked it up as a coincidence, so it's nice to have the tangible confirmation that this thread has eyes on it, one way or another.

That's my excuse to mention that 4cuck has also recycled Kiwi Farms Fire Emblem Thread posts for content. Maybe this is even the same guy.

If you don't feel like clicking that, it's a screenshot from here of one of my spergouts about localization, posted 7 times onto /v/ and /vg/ from Feb 23, 2024 to Sep 23, 2024.
>that's obviously just you trying to be epic, faggot
Sadly I have no better denial of the allegations than to pinky promise that I don't give a shit about convincing 4cuck, and also that I know how to use a jpg instead of a png when I have concerns about filesize.

Anyway, it's just really weird to see kiwichud fire emblem thread posts in the wild twice, and it's probably a number that's going to go up when the next game inevitably has some really fucking stupid controversy that can't be broken down anywhere else because they're all too obsessed with lolicon and headcanonizing Ike and Sothe as MAPs

So annoyed at Living Legend rn. I got all the shit from the desert and got the 700XP but lost out on a Guiding Ring because I didn't know it was there beforehand and Matthew isn't fast enough to steal it from Jasmine. I'm hoping putting the following into words and posting it will help me remember when I next play this game in years' time: Matthew is essentially dead once Legault shows up.

It's weird. I'm playing the game without savestates for the first time in all these years and I've never been as late as Four-Fanged Offense without having a single promoted unit on my team before (barring prepromotes, obviously). It's a testament to how much I abuse the arena when I can rely on savestates :story:

That is quite late to not have any Promoted units of your own.
At the very least I have a promoted Canas or Sain/Lowen by Four Fanged Offense, I usually promote Canas at 11-13 and 15 for the Cavaliers though, I take it you want them at 20 before promotion?

Yeah I always get them to 20 before promoting them. With my terrible luck, they need all the help they can get. Kent and Lowen are half a level from 20, to be fair. It's just funny that I haven't been avoiding fights or anything, killing bosses on the last turn of defend maps etc. and all my units apart from those two and the lords are lv. 13-18.

FE7 isn't Awakening, waiting until 20 to promote isn't the optimal strategy for most units

Could you elaborate?
Grinding is much more limited and risky in Blazing Blade than in Awakening or Sacred Stones while most units struggle for defense/res, so the effect of the lump sum you get when promoting is, usually, a lot more dramatic than the interest you'd earn on getting someone all the way up to level 20. Not to say that there's no units or circumstances where that isn't worthwhile or that you should promote the moment you get to level 10 (Priscilla discounted), but generally it's a good idea to promote in the mid teens, especially if you're only likely to get growths in throwaway stats for a unit on additional levels.

Could you elaborate?
FE7 in general has very poor enemy quality, meaning they are not much of a threat.
Only the bosses can pose any amount of threat come endgame.

If I recall correctly the fastest generic Enemies are some Valkyries in Victory or Death with around 23-24 Attack Speed and there's only 4 of them.

This means you can get away with gaining the benefits of promotion (higher movement, extra weapon type, crit and the promotion bonuses) much sooner than in say FE10/FE11H5 where the enemies are quite badass.

Marcus, just the way you get him, with zero investment, can still reliably fight in the last few chapters for example.

Canas is a great example for early promotion, he gains effectively four attack speed from his promotion and to top it all off he can then heal.

Replayed through Genealogy of the Holy War recently, and man, what a fun ride. There are some huge flaws; the large amounts of downtime dragging your ass across the huge maps with nothing to do (heaven forbid you're fielding non horseback units), but the writing is stellar, Chapter 5 is still an emotional gut punch to this day.

Got some downtime going from place to place for work, decided to bring my GBA + flash cart with me and try Fire Emblem: Blazing Blade.

I'm astounded how bad I am at this game and searching online shows I'm even worse than I expected :story:

I'm at Chapter 25 and more or less convinced that I, once again, picked the wrong units.

The random level up stats are driving me up the wall and did Florina (on which I invested quite some time) + several other units dirty.

I'd like to know some more details if it pleases you.
Always great to hear about the experiences of someone new.

You play on normal?

You play on normal?

This is my first Fire Emblem and, yeah, I'm in normal.

A few thoughts about the units:
  • Marcus and Hawkeye (?) seems to obliterate everything.
  • Sain is not bad, either.
  • Dorcas is quite tanky and his promotion is worth it.
  • Lyn is quite squishy but is becoming a bit of a killing machine. Even more so after her promotion.
  • Canas was a Gigachad even before his promotion and always will be.
  • Florina is the definition of sunken cost fallacy for this run.
  • I feel that most units are absolutely useless against bosses.
  • The Wallace hate online really makes me laugh, there was a guy whose guide I checked after missions (to see what I missed) that lost his shit every time Wallace was even remotely mentioned.

And about the game:
  • I have used promotion items as soon as they are available/the unit is able to be promoted. Looks like it may be quite suboptimal.
  • Another suboptimal (and possibly very retarded) thing I do is that I try to make everyone gain exp equally and not leave anyone behind.
  • I have a very hard time predicting how dangerous an enemy promoted unit / boss will be before using the "Attack" command to check, compared to other game (played a bit of Final Fantasy Tactics Advance where I could reliably predict the threat for comparison)
  • A consequence of the above, one of my frustrations is that I feel that I must at least once fall in the end-of-chapters gotchas or slip and get my shit pushed in by the boss before having a chance to clear the chapter. Not all the chapters but still frustrating. I've banged my head on some chapters, the most recent being 25 with the long-range magic users, where surviving the first chapters consists of Legault doing some capoeira moves to dodge magic and praying that the other unlucky unit targeted don't gets nuked to bits. Boss was brutal, I got lucky on hits against him.
  • On that topic, I enjoy the game for the most part, except when I must restart a chapter because I somehow fucked up at the end.
  • Bosses, being a bit too much worthy of their title, are quite lethal and able to body most units in a single attack.

Don't worry about efficiency. It's a very deep and very gay rabbit hole in the community, who are mostly talking about the highest difficulties on made up rulesets anyway, and you're playing a very forgiving game even by those metrics. Do what your heart tells you to and have fun, you won't get your balls busted for it lategame.

Compared to FFTA, the damage in FE is deterministic; there's no variance and you're going to get exact same results every single time, provided you know how to do the calcs. The good news is that the calcs are pretty simple and universal across most of the series.

6QU2sZz.png

Here, you can see Eliwood's got 12 atk. That's his Str (5) + the Mt of the weapon equipped, which is 7. That means he does 12 damage before accounting for the target's Def. If Eliwood was hitting himself, he would do Atk (12) - Def (5) = 7 damage.

The rapier itself is special though, since it gets bonus damage against horses and armors. That doesn't mean he does double damage. In this game, it means the weapon's Mt is doubled to 14 before adding the wielder's Str. Armorslayers and hammers and bows work the same way.

Where it gets slightly more complicated is weapon triangle. If Eliwood's fighting an axe guy, he gains +1 Atk and the axe guy loses 1 Atk. If Eliwood's fighting a lance guy, he loses 1 and the lancer gains 1. Terrain also gives defense, and it applies to both physical and magic defense. Magic hits res, but that's probably already obvious.

Speed is also a little weird. A unit with a speed advantage of 4 or more will double the opponent. Units are sometimes weighed down by their weapons though, and the game doesn't show you when that happens, so you need to hand check it. If a weapon's weight is greater than the wielder's Con stat, the difference is subtracted from their speed stat. So, if the rapier weighed 10 here, Rapier (10) - Eliwood's Con (7) means he would lose 3 speed, bringing him down to 4 Spd.

Evasion and Crit work kind of the same where it's Hit - Avoid, and Crit - the target's Luck.

That sounds like a lot and you don't need to know all of it, but even just having a vague idea of how the numbers work goes a long way in preventing Fire Emblem bullshit from happening to you.

You don't need to predict, it's all simple maths as already explained.
There are various other factors to take into account, weapon triangle advantage gives you hit and damage bonuses, as does weapon rank bonuses, and any support bonuses you might have.
The "skill" stats affects your hit and critical rate as well, whereas your speed and luck stat also affect your ability to dodge and avoid getting enemy crits.
But yes, bringing up the damage forecast when you select an enemy to attack and scrolling through the different weapons is the quickest way to tell how you're going to do.

But if you're chronically relying on this, you'll constantly be running the risk of being fucked over

It worked for me during my first run of FE7 ever. FE7 on Normal isn't really all that difficult to begin with; as long as you don't leave vulnerable units exposed to more than one attack during enemy phase, you should be fine, the game is extremely lenient all things considered. You generally want to cut down as many enemy units within reach as possible, and let them come to you (as long as there are no villages or chests under threat), tank with a bulky unit, and then clean them up.
