I played the Tellius games first (loved them) and thought I'd be a huge Fire Emblem fan once I had played more of the games, so I did; this was my takeaway of the series as a whole:

I'm clearly not a Fire Emblem fan, just a Tellius enjoyer.
Would highly recommend Echoes. One of the best remakes ever and has arguably the best presentation in the entire series. Gameplay is very old school fire emblem and faithful to Gaiden without being slow as fuck. The turnwheel helps alleviate some of the bullshit rng too.

Boots or Unit?

more like Boots or Killer Bow + Mend

I love him dearly, but if you're a real Conquest gigagamer, not only is he just kind of redundant, but no boots is also a big opportunity cost for some of the more advanced openers that want a 9/10 move flier or 6 move Azura or something and can't use generics with Shove or Swap; same for if you're rescue-skipping Endgame, which you don't need to do, but probably are.

He's perfectly functional in a few different roles that are all pretty valuable. He can fuck his way through ninja cave with relative ease, and then long term can either stay in Adventurer to click staves, open chests, and do secondary combat until he picks up Pass, or go into Bow Knight, Ninja tree, or Fighter tree for whatever combination of stronger combat, rally support, and backpacking you might want. I rather like Berserker Shura after picking up Lucky 7 from Adventurer. Your eyes might light up when you see Ninja + Hero access for Sol, but I find he has bulk problems and his growths make him pretty underwhelming for primary combat lategame. On top of that he has comparatively lower room to grow as a prepromote than his competition, AND he doesn't support with anyone that isn't Corrin, so even as a backpack or just a guy that stands next to people to give crit avoid and shit, he's at a disadvantage.

The problem is that if you know what you're doing, you'll already have units that do what he can do, and they end better in the long run, AND they don't need as many Heart Seals to do it. Heart Seals are a big deal. There's only five of those in Conquest before you unlock the Tier 3 shops, and each one can transform a unit into something way more powerful and also unique than anything Shura can do.

If capturing is on the table, he even faces some competition with generics. Take a look at this guy.

2025-02-07.jpg

Compared to Shura on join, he's got 1 more level to grow, +1 HP, -2 Str, +6 Mag, -8 Skl, -2 Spd, -7 Lck, -3 Def, and -1 Res, and also A Bows B Staves compared to Shura's C and D, respectively. Sure, Shura will end up better at combat, but this guy has an advantage at clicking staves and also even debuffing; Shura's personal is a -3 to Str+Spd on targets that can't hit back, compared to this guy's Seal Str+Def which are -6 and apply as long as he's alive at the end of combat. Shura's stacks with dagger debuffs but, again, that's a Heart Seal.

Still, Shura is cool, and if you're good at Conquest none of his shortcomings really matter that much. He does also have the completely unique niche of being able to give the Outlaw line to male Corrin through friendship. Niles doesn't do that because he's too much of a coomer.

It's more like watering down the geopolitical shitshow that series is normally known for. Lately, all we've been getting is the bare minimum when it comes to the number of factions that we fight
Under rated. Political/Nobel intrigue and the fallout from it is what starts half of the wars in this series, it's key. And when it comes to something like FE4 and its world building, it's actually good at it.

@mrs thickness explained it way better than what I could imagine, but yeah, I'd kill a man for a pair of old shoes.

There's one thing that I'd like to emphasize:

Shura is also the very last unit you obtain in the main story. Normally if you use a pre-promote, they're gonna be viable for the entirety of the game with basically no investment (viable, not good), but Shura really only shines in Ninja Hell, and then slightly falls off in pretty much every other chapter. And again, since he's the last unit of the main story, at that point, every member of your squad has probably got some good investment towards them, and finding space to replace any of them with a mediocre unit is kinda hard (unless you go for the Master Ninja route, which surprisingly makes him a slightly better Kaze for most of the game). At least Flora and Izana start with a good staff rank and have their niches as support classes. Don't even get me started on the children and how they can just become god-slaying machines with the power of eugenics and having a mother who knows Trample.

Also you're giving up the best item of all Fire Emblem games for a C... maybe B tier unit, you can do better than that.

For some reason, modern writing is geared towards the ADHD crowd, than anything else. But 3H is almost an outlier in this field.

Guys, Fire Emblem is literally fascist propaganda and Sigurd is literally hitler.

also can an Awakening loremaster please inform me which pairing results in a child unit that is the most intrinsically kaga-esque, antisemitic, and fascist? apparently robin probably isn't on the table because the guys who like the evil dragons are jews or something. tharja likes the evil dragon i think, is she jewish? anyway, chrom maribelle? virion lissa? i really really want an owain in particular who is genetically fashmaxed for the highest level of racism and roman statue rantsona-ing. thanks in advance

I'm out of the loop on this, but I'm guessing it doesn't mean they're a fan of dental hygiene.

Modern progressives put the Jews in the fascist bracket because of Gaza, so Tiki and Robin producing a demigod Plegian monarch with canonically the best genetics (stats) possible while cleansing a sandbox they conquered of devil worshippers would probably work.

Watched a video about Geitz just now.
Personally he's an auto include in my FE7 army even if he's a pain in the ass to get. (shout out to 0x2 Lyn)

so what's worse, not grinding and getting Wallace, or grinding and getting Geitz?
Funny I just started playing FE7 again and this shows up. I personally never really liked Warriors but maybe I'll give Geitz a try this run.

Every source I've seen says the big problem with Geitz is the grind to get to his chapter and I really don't see the issue. Maybe it's because I always play Lyn's story and lean on Hector a little too much but I don't think I've ever gone to the "shit" version of Four-Fanged Offense without actively trying to leave Lords out of combat. Are people just leaving Eliwood/Hector at base until it's time to seize?

To give an example, I just got to the Dread Isle and Hector is lv. 19, Lyn is lv. 13 and Eliwood is lv. 8. Most of the way there with plenty of time, and I haven't even really been trying. They've seen a lot of combat, but they're supposed to see combat.

Hector is an obvious given and Lyn can at least be flashy and kill mages or go shred a cav with the Mani Katti but for me the problem is how boring Eliwood is. GBA Sword locked infantry who is a "jack of all trades master of none" is the most boring way you can design a unit. And it doesn't help that a collective level of 50 is kinda nuts (you can max 2/3 and still fall short) and that there are a lot of other units I also want to train like Raven, Lucius, the cavs and even the axebros which I actually have a softspot for in this game.

Yeah it depends on who you like using, I guess. It's funny how hard Eliwood got screwed over. I get that you don't want to make a busted character but when the nicest thing you can say about the protagonist is "at least he's not Roy" it's just sad.

I was reading a screenshot lp of 7 to go with my run and in the same chapter of Lyn's story we learn that Uther planned to support Lyn's claim all along and Eliwood pledges support as soon as he hears Lyn's story. The other Lycian lords must have fucking hated Lundgren.

Yeah, sadly when you're average across the board you do not excel at anything as a unit in Fire Emblem.
Hector has a great personal weapon, growths and can become quite tanky, Lyn has an even better personal weapon and doubles reliably
Eliwood meanwhile has a good personal weapon, the Rapier is basically a slightly worse Killing Edge, but his growths and bases are just too average across the board to accomplish much.

Eliwood is a bit too weak to two-shot enemies, a bit too slow to reliably double, a bit too frail to take many hits.
It's a pity cause I do enjoy him as a character, due to Hector and Lyn being so boisterous people often overlook Eliwood but he does actually have a character to him unlike Roy.
