Since nothing has been happening for a while, i wanted to bring attention to this "story" that is semi related to FE and know if anyone else has info about it.
If anyone has any info about the guy or an archive of his videos or his website i would really appreciate it.
I actually checked out what this guy had been up to quite recently, so it's interesting (and a little sad) he's imploded quite recently.
For the uninitiated, which I imagine is most people, Harvester of Eyes is/was a strategy RPG youtuber and autismo elitest. Think Fire Emblem, Langrisser, Shining Force, and so on. Really liked Shining Force, Langrisser, and a lot of other old and clunky SRPGs. Decried Final Fantasy Tactics as the worst SRPG of all time for reasons I was never too sure on other than elitism. He did reviews and other general scripted content about SRPGs on his channel and eventually uploaded his stuff to Utreon and other youtube rival sites. To my knowledge, he was basically the only strictly SRPG youtuber/reviewer, which is pretty evident by the fact that despite making pretty decent content he never really took off in popularity at all.
Over the years he ended up getting really disgruntled with youtube, which over time resulted in him uploading his videos to other youtube competitors, disabling comments and like/dislike ratios on his youtube videos, enabling as many ads as possible on them, and other general fuckery in an attempt to get people to migrate off the platform on on to Utreon or whatever the fuck he was using. When I last looked at his channel he was complaining that he had gotten a strike on his channel for an old video, which is basically when youtube arbitrarily hands out a bad boy badge to a channel for violating one of it's guidelines or seriously infringing copyright. In return you lose some benefits, but the strike will go away after a while. To be fair to him youtube has a lot of problems and I actually agreed with him on most things, but he always sounded very whiny about it, like how dare youtube impede him in any way kinda deal. He frequently came off as very condescending towards his youtube viewers despite them making up almost all of his viewer base, so I think that contributed to his channels' declining analytics his mounting frustration.
Other than that he started up a forum called SRPG Academy which was meant to be a place for SRPG fans to come together and discuss the various games. When I last looked at less than a month ago it had probably less than 15 unique users and almost all the activity was just him posting his videos and smaller written reviews on it. As it turns out acting like a dick to your fanbase and actively not engaging with them at all will not endear them to you and make them want to go on your little website. Well, that along with the fact that he never networked with other youtubers and SRPGs are a very niche subgenre to begin with. I checked and SRPG Academy no longer exists. Neither does his Utreon page from the looks of it.
It's a bit of a shame but given the niche nature of his channel I doubt a complete archive of his videos will ever come to be. He had some decent videos and would review new SRPGs to give people an idea on whether or not they were worth your time or not. In the end I think he just couldn't swallow his pride and just accept youtube for what it is in order to further his other goals of starting an SRPG forum, so he ended up having a meltdown and going scorched earth.
Granted, I haven't watched the video yet so maybe there's some "shocking evidence" I'm not aware of. I'm going to eventually make another post discussing it in more detail but I don't think there's much long term lolcow potential despite him having quite the apoplectic meltdown.
