I'm still watching that livestream and as far as I can tell, they've really trimmed the fat off the first half of Three Houses. Right now, the Church is getting involved in helping Edelgard "arrest" Team Slither for fedposting. Obviously, the ringleader will escape;but the plot feels like KT's think tank went, "okay, people hate our FE game because of how irrelevant the mole people are, so how can we make their arc even weirder?"
The pre-timeskip is only two chapters, I'm not even kidding. Trimming the fat is an understatement.

It'll be interesting to see if IS/Koei Tecmo manage to create an actually worse story than the original game. It's actually a very difficult task given that the overall plot of 3H was pretty fucking bad. So far it looks like they'll probably end up doing just that. It's funny watching them advertise the Shez/Byleth rivalry plot so much like it's actually compelling in any way to play as an annoying expy/alternate universe version of Byleth, who already was a very flat character to begin with.

At the end of the day though I can ignore a shit story, to a degree. It doesn't excuse it, but it's not the end of the world. I just hope the gameplay is competent and has interesting scenarios but I'm not too sure one way or the other by looking through footage of the demo.

If Jeralt isn't playable I'm definitely not getting it though

I've been playing the demo today and it is fun so far. The story is what it is. Am I the bad guy now? My painted lady friend seems like a bad guy.

I can assure you that right from the start the developers make sure you know that as far as the player-character is concerned, she is not flat.

Yeah, I was going by the number of fights that you go through instead of the chapters; either way, the pacing feels rushed. And it didn't even provide Edelgard an decent reason for declaring war on the Church outside of Rhea assassinating an minor character during the timeskip. In fact, I was laughing my ass off when I saw her giving her dramatic speech (which is an copypasta from the original) and excluding what happened to Bernie's dad.

So, yeah. The writing's shit (at least for the Empire) and you have to chase down Duke Aegir who's been cast an Fortress Knight without actually looking like one.

Plus, it looks like they might be reusing content from the previous game.

Well, Edelgard had a shitty to start with, I never expected much.

Watching scenes for this game, here are my rough estimates for how it will play out.

Blue Lions will get ass-raped into being the worst narrative of the game. The entire point of Dimitri’s route was his rise and fall, which the story seems to fuck over. Not only is the Church part killed off, which rids the game of the slow development of D, but there is no real enemy for him to face as his Uncle was behind Slither and El doesn’t work with them. Honestly, where could Dimitri’s story go narratively as he has no personal stakes in anything anymore. It will probably be a generic fight Edelgard because narrative.

Black Eagles gets a trade off. The rushed narrative will make El’s war seem unwarranted, but her actions are less brain-dead retarded compared to base Three Houses. It is like they fixed the complaints, but stripped her high points.

Golden Deer will be the best route as they actually show shit that was going on off screen and expand on the Fodland vs Almyra conflict. The story will have fuck all to do with the main narrative, but it won’t be cucked by it this time, so you at least get something good on its own.

Shev is definitely a better character than Byleth though as there is way more of a personality and giving the character a voice does wonders.

Having the expanded cast actually do shit is also a bonus as only the lords did anything in cutscenes, but now characters like Felix are more involved.

Graphics are also much improved from Three Houses.

I haven’t played the demo as I just want to play the game in full at release, but so far, it looks like a mixed bag that fixes flaws while creating entirely new ones.

Arval is definitely connected to the Agarthans in some way, and it'll be interesting to see how they expand on them. In the base 3H they always felt like an afterthought, like a group of villains left over from some other draft of the story that they slipped in but never really expanded on. They're just some advanced society that Sothis fucked up and made them live underground like ants. We know virtually nothing about them otherwise. Do all Agarthans desire vengeance? Is TWSitD some kind of radical organization of Agarthans or is functionally their government?

I can't help but speculate that this game's story may not end as a Golden Route for the lords, but a Golden route for Agartha instead, because in every route it's fucking nuked or eradicated. Maybe Shez and Arval will end up being able to bring peace between the surface and the the underground.

As much as I want to be loyal to your house rep, she’s not looking too good over here.

I definitely raised an eyebrow at her starting her own church. Like… what happened to gods not existing, Edelgard?

@Basic Blonde Boy As much as I wish to be optimistic (Blue Lions is my favorite route, second to BE), it really does seem like they taking it to that route. Fuck man. How much does it ask to play as feral Dimitri, Koei?

Well, Felix is still having daddy issues in one of the trailers; so I'm willing to give KT the benefit of the doubt to say that we might get to see the wild boar routine towards the endgame...Or it'll just be an final battle in the middle of some field that nobody cares about.

So theories are going out that this game is a golden route scenario. The idea is that Byleth is the antagonist because he/she is going back in time after seeing all routes to do something different that would change the trajectory of the story.

I hate this idea, yet fully believe that it will happen as a last minute ass pull to explain the current narrative.

Also, I guess some data-mines have happened and certain characters will not be recruitable in all houses. Apparently neither Mercedes nor Jeritza will go with Golden Deer, and Leonie will not go with Blue Lions, nor will Lysethia. So Black Eagles may end up the objective best route seeing as they have no restrictions so far. Also, Gatekeeper is playable.

Billy Kametz, English VA of Black Eagles' Ferdinand has succumbed to Stage 4 Colon cancer last Thursday, his last work recorded would be Ferdinand von Aegir in Three Hopes.

I went with the Golden Deer route in Three Hopes since it was the one that had the least amount of discussion. And also because I'm doing a Golden Deer route in Three Houses right now.

THE THREE HOPES ARE THE THREE MAIN CHARACTERS OMG
Hopefully Dimitri doesn't get bukkaked by two dozen spears this time.

Just going by the demo it's shocking how much higher this game's production values are above Three Houses. And performance wasn't nearly as bad as my time with Age of Calamity. Still have a lot of it to play, I'm 2-3 hours in but I'm still in the middle of the fucking prologue

So, I’d been thinking a dumb thing: if IS decided to remake Genealogy/Thracia, they had yet to cast Diarmuid (Nanna's brother, a Prince Charming-type going by what dialogue he had been given). For a really dumb reason, I’d been holding out hope that they would take some higher-level talent for a few characters, and Billy would’ve been a really good fit for the role with respect to Ferdie. That dream is now gone, and it honestly makes me even sadder having to wonder what more Billy could have done if not for his cancer.

I will always miss the library with warped textures that somehow got overlooked by a team of Japanese people.

Marianne loved that library.

I've been working through the Golden Deer path. I did not realize that Claude was a stand-in for Chantal.

So I just ran into this brown faggot named Nadir that really has a hard on for beating the shit out of Claude. And Claude has a chance to get rid of Nadir once and for all but instead lets him flee rather than kill him. And Claude says something like: "I'm sure he'll be back." Claude is Chantal.
