The important thing to take out of it is that there is no accident on Chris's part. He knows damn well that people want to have a legitimate reason to feel sympathy for someone, Chris has willfully chosen to lie to his friends and snooker them out of their sympathy.
Hell, she helped him drag a lego abomination to McDonalds and filmed her spawn playing with it there. Occasionally poking buttons on a plastic box is nothing compared to that.

I think it's nothing more than him picking a name and trying to possibly seem endearing to Barb. Like when a kid scribbles out a picture of their parents because they think it's a nice thing to do. If Chris was 7 then naming it after Barb would seem adorable but at 31 it loses a bit of it's charm.
