What are some of your favorite video games that you feel are underrated? Personally, I really enjoyed "Legend of Legaia" for PlayStation and the GameCube version of "Skies of Arcadia." I think both had really engaging plots and characters, massive worlds and great gameplay.

Fun story

In 2001, a virus has killed 99.99% of the females on Earth. Various countries fight over each other's quarantine zones, and end up engaging in nuclear war, destroying much of civilization. The few remaining females (called Queenlords) are held by gangs who have taken over small pieces of the world. The main character, Griffin Spade, had his fiancee Madison taken away from Queens, New Yorkby the U.S. Government. Griffin ends up separated from his fiancee, and New York City is destroyed. He claims a tank for his own and sets out to cross the United States to find her, battling gangs as he reaches his goal. After surviving the ruins of New York City, Griffin heads westward gaining recruits in the countryside, Chicago, Las Vegas, and San Francisco.

Wayne Gretzky’s 3D Hockey. They set it up so you could beat the living shit out of the opposing team and it never got old.
 
I like Banished, I guess you could call it a survival city-builder

This is kind of tricky because most of the games I think are "underrated" also generally fall under the "cult classic" category and I know I've already responded to at least a half dozen or so of those kind of threads. But let's see...

Assassin's Creed: Rogue - Ubisoft back in the day thought it would be a brilliant idea to release this game the same day they released AC:Unity, and effectively buried the damn thing. As it is though, I found the game to be infinitely more entertaining than Unity despite being a last gen title. It could've been better, but for an AC title, the storyline is engaging and it actually improved a bit on Black Flag's mechanics.

Sunset Overdrive - Here's the thing: Sunset Overdrive is actually a decent game. The traversal/grinding system is a lot of fun, once you get used to it, and the missions are engaging. The problem is however is that it suffers a serious case of "How Do Yo Do, Fellow Kids," syndrome. Every single one of the characters sans one (who dies in the first act- spoiler warning) is too cool for school and grating as hell. Still, if you can get past that, it's a decent game. Plus the game is dirt-cheap now.

Silent Hill: Downpour - Yeah yeah yeah, it's not as good as Silent Hill 2 & 3. Shut up. The game was developed by a tiny Czech game studio (Vatra) that was essentially thrown to the wolves by their parent company (Kuju) to develop a game for a franchise which has one of the most obsessive fanbases in the history of vidya. They were essentially placed into a no-win situation, but they tried their damndest. As it is, the game is still an entertaining romp through Silent Hill that tries to cater to the established lore all the while trying to expand upon it. Plus extra points for having Daniel Licht create the soundtrack all the while licensing some fantastic music like The Highwaymen's "Silver Stallion" and Anna Ternheim's "Off The Road", whose music worked gloriously well to create a haunted feeling to the game.
 
I kinda liked the old Avatar: The Last Airbender games for the GBA. Sure, they were a bit slow and the controls have left something to be desired, but they were a fun distraction. I also wish Killer Instinct would get more love, though that could be said about almost every non-Capcom\Netherrealm\Namco fighting game.
 
Final fantasy 8 had a lot of problems but isn't nearly as bad as every says it is. It's still a good game.
 
Klonoa 1 and 2, Metal Arms: Glitch in the System, War of the Monsters, the King’s Field series, off the top of my head.

I really enjoyed ACR too. They actually put some thought into mission design, instead of BF's terrible 'follow this guy and eavesdrop on him' formula that was used for literally half the missions.
 
Wizardry 8 - Last game of Sir-tek before they closed the door. Series ended well compared to its fellow CRPG contemporaries, Ultima and Might & Magic. Far as its story goes, I like it makes it less of you just being one to save the world and more of become gods of the universe. How many games even allow your end-goal as becoming god of the whole universe?

Might & Magic 7: For Blood and Honor - Depending on how one felt about its sequel, it's either THE last good Might & Magic game from New World Computing or one of the last good Might & Magic games. Playing through it made me realize how 8 felt like a downgrade but beyond that, M&M 7 made it easier in making and maintaining your party at the cost that whatever class you picked was set in stone. Also like the fact it's an RPG that allowed you to play as a goblin which NWC presented more as human tall people rather than dwarf sized people that D&D and Warcraft made them known for. Story for it goes from doing a scavenger hunt that makes you into a nominal lord to either reestablishing a link to some ancient sci fi beings or reactivating a sci-fi forge that allows the 3D printing of blaster guns (Might & Magic was always a sci-fi game with magic and fantasy elements since the first game, compared to other rpg's that simply stayed in the strict realms of magical fantasy).
