Yeah but the world ended at the end of Far Cry 5. Are some of the games set in specific years? I always thought it was ambiguous.
I think the games were vaguely set in the year they were released in.

That being said, I think they have around a decade to play with up to Far Cry 5- or they might just soft-reboot the franchise and assume that the world wasn't nuked? Some of their franchise staples (like Hurk) were starting to get a bit old to do the stuff the game calls for.

The first one was in the Pacific too.

I thought so.

So like I said, setting a Far Cry in the Caribbean is an obvious choice, but it's still cool to see them really do it, I enjoyed 5's Montana setting a lot, but I was definitely hoping to see a return to a tropical island for the next game.

Far Cry 5 is stated to be set in 2018, I don't know if it's ever stated for 3 and 4 but you can probably assume they were set in 2012 and 2014.

That's basically what Ubisoft did with Far Cry 3, that started it's own new continuity, there's no indication it's the same world as 2 and it's definitely not the same world as the original game with it's mutants and whatnot.

Is anyone else bugged that they're not only using actors voices these days, but their likenesses too?
I wouldn't be surprised if it's done as a "fuck you" to the voice actors unions (Troy Baker being one of their big guys).

Each Far Cry game is its own thing. Hurk is more like a running gag.

It would make sense that this is set sometime in the past given the events of 5.
Not to sound dumb, but do they really follow continuity in those games? I thought it was more of an anthology style thing. Also the quote about "island paradise stuck in time" makes it sound more like a cuba situation than it being set in like the 90s

Is it an anthology but there are reoccuring characters like Hurk between 3, 4 and 5.

Are the villains the selling point of Far Cry?

All the settings of Far Cry until 5, with the expection of 2 and Blood Dragon, were exotic, international places.

None of which interested me. Montana, however, reminded me of a true, organic open world.

Far Cry 4 actually has a few references to Far Cry 2. The diamonds you can sell are said to be.blood diamonds from the country in Far Cry 2 and the arms dealer mentions he was a warlord who took a bullet at the same waterfall resort that you're ambushed at in the end of the first half of the game.

One of the strengths of the medium is that you can make characters look however you want them to. Seeing people I recognise pointlessly breaks my immersion, unless the actor is literally playing themselves like in the Saints Row games.
It always gives the impression whoever is in charge of those decisions really wishes they worked in TV/Hollywood.

That's why the third Infamous video game was shit. You were basically playing as Troy and Laura.

Really? I thought the Montana setting was kind of dull tbh

Now that's cool, I never knew that (I sadly didn't finish 4)

I had no idea anything from 2 ever got referenced, that does make some sense that 2 would be the same world, but there's no way the original game with it's mutants and whatnot is the same world.

Even if 2 is a part of it though 3 is still the game that set the standard formula that every game since has followed.

I found it cool because it reminded me of an actual mountain town that I've visited in North Carolina, Ubisoft did their research and really managed to capture the feel of a small American mountain town.

Far Cry 5 is underrated imo. I personally loved Montana and the redneck hick atmosphere of it all. Far Cry 3 is my personal fave solely because of Vaas, but 5 needs more love.

IIRC Ubisoft doesn't count Far Cry 1 cause Crytek made it, but does count Instincts/Predator because their studios made it. Hurk actually mentions that Jason and Jack are his "tattoo buddies" at the end of his mission strand in Far Cry 4 so there's at least a loose connection.

Agreed, I had an absolute blast with Far Cry 5.

Whaaaaaat, that's crazy, I had no idea they referenced anything prior to 2 in a later game.

I still personally find it hard to swallow that it's the same world given the tonal differences, but that's a fun bit of fanservice.

Ironic considering he was desperate for having a union yet shit on the SilentHill VA's for wanting royalties. He and Laura being the ink suit actors for Saints Row and Infamous Second Son is just horrible.

What would be the point of making him Vaas beyond retarded nostalgia pandering?

I must say, I do like the sort of Cuba like setting they're gonna go for. Plus, seems they took a concept from FC4 that instead of playing outsider you play a local of the country.

Only one of the endings lead to the end of the world, the other one is canon. It's weird since your choices wouldn't lead to, or prevent the nukes, but I assume the endings are canonically "you do choice a. and somewhere, unrelated, nuclear war starts" and "you do choice b. and somewhere, unrelated, the world leaders talk it out, and nuclear war doesn't happen", with a. leading to new dawn and b leading to 6.

All Far Cry games (except the spinoffs and the first one, none of which are canon, except maybe Primal) take place in the year the game was released.

A Far Cry set in a Cuba/Venezuela stand in makes so much sense that I was surprised when I realized this is their first time doing it.

Ive probably spent more time listening to the sound track (both choral and regular) than actually playing the game. Gotta love them bible jams.

Also i dont doubt we'll get another meet the father or el presidente with a real ass actor
