Giancarlo is cool but it won't be nearly as good as 5 just due to the soundtrack no doubt being nowhere near as good. Far Cry 5s soundtrack was so fucking good that it still makes me mad it won almost no awards.

Figure this is the best place to ask for this, but is Far Cry 3 still worth playing? The only other one I've played is 4, and I found that one to be pretty damn boring if I'm being honest. I never got that far into it because I found the world to be just plain uninteresting and process of climbing towers to unlock more shit to do just seemed kinda tedious. The general consensus is that 4 is like a less good 3, but even so I'm kinda worried that if I didn't like 4 then I wouldn't like 3.
If you dislike the gameplay loop in general, you won't like 3 much. It has even less guns and gameplay options than 4, which was the universally liked aspect of that game. The story and general vibe is much better, though.

Dan Romer did a fantastic job on Far Cry 5 with both the score and the songs. Have they said who is doing the soundtrack for FC6?

Having just tried 3, I really do think it was the story that was turning me off 4. I just didn't care about what was going on; the protagonist was boring, the people he had to do missions for were boring, and the only interesting character disappears for most the game. I've only played 40 minutes of 3 so I'm not really far, but I feel a lot more invested in what's going on.

Because they're farthuffers who want REALISM OMG OSCAR AWARD WINNING VIDEOGAME

Also they're french.

At this point Ubisoft needs to shake up a bunch of shit because I can't get excited for something that you know is going to be blocked off by DLC out the ass and filled with tedious busywork that can be lessened with micro-transactions.

I'm probably going to opt for Ghost since they seem to be offering a complete game and devoid of the Ubisoft nickel and diming bullshit.

saving money using the same voiceactors for mocap has been done for ages - because it's usually cheaper. when you already pay for a celebrity for marketing might as well go all in.

ironically ubisoft doesn't have a lot of microtransaction outside their obvious multiplayer vehicles. even the shit in ghost recon was mostly for pvp, their SP games tend to have season pass for a 30-40 buck tip for questionable content (like some extra missions and stuff that has nothing to do with the main game and simpley re-uses assets). gonna have to wait and see how off the rails they get after the disaster than was 2019 for them.

Maybe I remember it differently, but the first Watch Dogs involved a revenge plot as a heist gone wrong.

Aiden was more of a gray hat hacker. His monologues was just his psyche trying to reason that he is a good person.

Not a bad game, just not deserving of the hype Ubisoft placed on it.

it was mostly the graphics and the interesting premise of hacking stuff which was an interesting take on how you could affect the world, it probably got way more hype then they anticipated but they couldn't simply not deliver, they really had to fuck it up (especially graphically). that being said tho chicago was quite comfy to run around in.

still don't understand why they don't remaster it probably now that their engines can actually handle the shit they wanted to do.

Always thought the series got better and better as the numbered entries went on, but I haven’t played 5 so I can’t tell if that opinion will still hold up. Might pick it up if it ever goes on sale or if I can find a good torrent for it. As of right now I’m only mildly interested in 6 because I’d be glad to take more of 4, but I’d also be down for something a little more urban as long as traversing the environment is fun. I feel like a major part of my enjoyment in 3 and 4 came from just finding strange ways up and down the map.

Far Cry 3 is a magnificent video game adaptation of Apocalypse Now. The gameplay is average but I found myself sucked into the protag's drug-fueled descent into madness (or is it sanity, given the nature of things there?) right up until the very end.

I'm.... "ehhhhh " about Far Cry 6.

I really enjoyed FC3 and FC5, FC4 was alright but the whole collectibles thing got really annoying for me. And I played New Dawn which was... not bad, but most definitely should have been DLC and not a standalone.

Mechanics wise, I enjoy the games. I enjoy sneaking into strongholds. I enjoy the progression into buying buying better equipment. I enjoy how fun it is when you get to the point when you get some leveled up you can literally divebomb into enemy encampments and go full Punisher if you heart does so desire. Hell, I even find the tower sections tolerable,

My problem though is Ubisoft's writing:
Far Cry 3 you are Dudebro who saves the brown people by taking a shitton of drugs and working on your magic voodoo tribal tattoo. Kill exotic animals and get a bitching wallet. Main villain is killed halfway through the game.

Far Cry 4 you are Diversity Western Asian who saves the rest of the Diverstiy Western Asianland by taking a shitton of drugs and communing with the spirit winds. Kill exotic animals and get a bitching wallet. If you kill the main villain, you decide whether you want the country to devolve into a drug state or child prostitution. Fun!

Far Cry 5 you are Fallout 3 protagonist LARPing as the Sheriff's deputy who saves the good Christian folk by taking a shitton of drugs and calling upon the power of Community Spirit. Kill exotic animals and get a bitching wallet. Become as terrible as the cult you're fighting against and somehow bring about the end of the world because...?

Far Cry New Dawn you are Fallout 3 DLC protagonist who saves the post-apocalypse pride parade by taking a shtton of drugs and some light RPG base building. Kill exotic irradiated mutant animal to get a bitching wallet. Rekindle the American dream through wanton murder of drug addicts and savages.

My guess? Far Cry 6: You are nondescript brown person with no real characteristics or drive other than the games tells you to. Take a shitton of drugs and commune with a mishmash of Cuban/Caribbean/Mexican spirits. Kill exotic animals and get a bitching wallet. Kill the guy from Breaking Bad and save Tiny Child Man, only to have Tiny Child Man -plot twist- become Vaas and kill you in the end because lol Ubisoft wriiting.

I'll probably get around to playing it, but nothing about the game or the cinematics are doing anything for me. I think it's just mostly Ubisoft in general and their that's making this look rather unpalatable.

I remember how people (and game journalists) complained that Ubisoft sidestepped controversy by not making the antagonists of FC5 explicit analogs to white supremacists or other real-world political movements. There’s a good chance that Ubisoft will go fucking hard in the other direction now, making the game as SJW, “fuck you America, and especially you, whitey” as possible. We’ll see though, they do still like money after all.

Personally I liked FC5’s approach because it felt more like a statement on how current political extremism has more to do with our personal and collective psychosis than it does with any sort of principles. The cult’s politics didn’t matter because it was the leaders’ egos at the heart of the conflict. Its members were “brainwashed” which I think was a cope by the protagonist to justify their actions rather than a reflection of reality. “Our opponents aren’t real people”, where have I heard that before?

We’re divided because of our own selfishness and narcissism, and I think the game did a pretty good job reflecting that.

5 refined the gameplay even more. I also liked the buddy system in the game even if I thought most of the buddies were annoying. (I wish they would have had a system like 5's in Far Cry 2)

Most of the issues I had with it were the weird pacing of the story. The game has this horrible way of forcing you into story missions when you least want to do them. I didn't like the map much either but that might be because I grew up in rural regions like in the game.

I also thought the ending was complete dogshit but that's just me.

It's probably still worth picking up if you enjoy the gunplay of Far Cry 3 and 4. I think it's on sale on Steam for like 8 bucks right now.

If you have to ask, then you haven't been paying attention, silly!

You're a fucking white male!

If you didn't like Far Cry 4 you'll probably not like Far Cry 3. I don't know who said Far Cry 4 was worse than Far Cry 3, gameplay wise it was better so unless you just end up falling in love with the villain of the first half like a lot of people did or really like the tropical setting...eh I don't think you'll like it.
Honestly, this might be a personal preference. But I kinda always liked Pagan Min in FC4 more than Vaas, mostly because Min's entire character was this dude who was burned out and not giving much of a shit for his country, to the point that even the rebels were kinda boring him. But here arrives a person who's not only is related to him, but actually makes this whole thing really fun as he wrecks his empire that he already got bored with.

My biggest hope for 6 is that there are exactly 0 shitty drug/dream missions in the game. I don’t think any of them are fun.

I really liked this critique of Far Cry 5. The guy who made the video made a few minor errors (which people concentrate on instead of the broader claims being made) but it's overall well done. Besides stale, repetitive gameplay, Far Cry 5's themes are a mess and don't actually address any of the political topics the marketing implied it would. The game could've made points about guns, drugs, cults, race, gender, but Ubisoft pussied out and just presented everything neutrally, which makes the story pretty unengaging as a result.

I hope Far Cry 6 actually innovates instead of being 'more of the same'. Different types of missions and an overhauled progression system would be nice. The trailer introduced a unique setting and some interesting topics, so hopefully those actually go somewhere.

Remember how people thought they were getting the chance to shoot MAGA people in FC5 and it pulled a switcheroo on you basically supporting preppers and shit?

Yeah. They know what they're doing.
If the game actually ends up letting you give people helicopter rides to commies I'll buy it. I wouldn't put it past them since FC5 basically made preppers seem cool and the cult seem right at the end. They seem to really like baiting left wing politics as an outrage factor then pulling the rug from under peoples feet.
