The term "third world" came from the Cold War, America and its western allies were first world, the USSR and it's commie buddies were second world, while the countries not aligned with either side were designated the third world. It's a complete hold over from another era that has lost it's original true meaning.

The UN is probably pissed because the US just made a major pro-Israel move recently and we've been shitting on them and pulling out of some of the more badly ran UN pacts.
