Oh you just know there's no way this will end well.

Anyone have any idea of what the realistic best case scenario is here?

The realistic best case scenario, and tbh the most likely scenario, is the western powers will tighten their regulations to turn people away, the UN will do it's usual powerless paper tiger thing in response to that (Since ya know, the countries that would be doing this are key UN players), the instability in the mid east and the flood of migrants results in a minor economic downturn on par with the financial sector shitting itself as it is wont to do every so often, more simmering racial tensions that result in scary for tv stuff but don't really matter in the grand scheme, tens of thousands of dead migrants, and we have to listen to far left and far right politicians screech about it for the next 40 fucking years.

Oh also somewhere along the lines some western power decides they can fix it all, sends troops to who gives a fuck-istan, accomplishes nothing of note, and leaves a provisional government with the stopping power of a wet tissue on their way out that collapses instantly.

Western powers get sick of this shit, send everyone back to Turkey as it's declared a safe country, and so everyone should claim asylum there. Turkey has to put up with it if it wants any chance of being accepted into the EU, but ultimately collapses due to the influx. The new Russian empire gets a new vassal as NATO is pushed out by the rioting hordes.

A possibly not politically correct and/or feasible answer. Put a hard cap on entrants from certain countries, and prioritize intact families to the exclusion of the chickenshit family abandoners.

I haven't a fucking clue why they were permitted past Istanbul. Bullshit European apologetics. Their social systems don't stand a fucking chance if they give equal payout to uneducated immigrants who put nothing in.

Blame a mix of white guilt and Angela Merkel really wanting to appear kindly.

Why is it that the dystopic novels are the ones that shape the future? 1984 with the mass surveillance, Fahrenheit 451 with minorities (SJWs) wanting to destroy anything slightly challenging to their way of thinking, and now The Camp Of The Saints, which has proven that the crazy racist wasn't so crazy after all.

Eh these things happen in cycles. It's the 60s all over again, and bet your ass it'll be the 2070s as well. Terrorism is the new Communism, the Middle East is the same as ever, and the Hippies all got computers.

Two centuries ago it was anti monarchists, labor unionists, and the middle east was united under a crumbling empire that could barely be considered a functioning nation.

We as a species have been doing this like clockwork for 7,000 years and it ain't ever gonna change.

I also think that religious and ethnic minorities deserve to be placed before (Sunni) Muslim immigrants in most cases. Christians, Yazidis, Shia Muslims, and other minorities face severe persecution and discrimination in many Middle Eastern countries, and it's no surprise that they're evacuating in droves now that ISIS is gaining more and more territory. Like, I get that it sucks for everyone, but in most cases Muslims just have to keep their heads down and avoid attracting any attention. People (often those in power) look for literally any excuse to persecute Christians/Shiites/etc.

I'm far more sympathetic to the plights of minorities who are being relentlessly persecuted and are desperately trying to escape than I am to young, healthy-looking men who make up the majority and demand special treatment (as too many of them seem to be doing).

We're no different from any other species on the planet I guess.

Did you know Shia are a majority in Iraq?

I knew that they are a majority in some places, yes. But because Shiites make up only around 10-13% of Muslims they're minorities in most places. When that's the case they're often subjected to the same persecution as Christians and other non-Muslims; sometimes it's even worse because their oppressors (who are usually fundamentalist/extremist Sunni Muslims) see them as "corrupting" Islam.

Yesterday, migrants encamped at Dhekalia on the island of Cyprus protested their living conditions by burning the tents the aid agencies had given them. Such gratitude for Europe's generosity!

And all because the UK wanted to stop Cyprus becoming a new stepping stone, preventing many more drownings, by not letting them into the UK just because they're trespassing on one of it's air bases.

You know, I try really hard to feel sympathy for all these people, but when you burn aid tents because it's not good enough for you, then you deserve to be thrown back to ISIS.

It just would be weird to accept Shi'a refugees from Iraq, let alone Iran or Azerbaijan, on the basis that they've probably been persecuted for their religion.

I mean personally I am in favour of letting in pretty much anybody, but if you're going to discriminate on the basis of religion, it'd be good to be aware of the facts.

The reason why ISIS was able to find such fertile ground among Iraqi Sunnis is that many of them felt disenfranchised by the majority Shiite government.
