I agree. Having to depend on her trad husband for financial support definitely hastened the end of the relationship. Harry subsidizing May is the only reason they stayed together as long as they did. Dad’s credit card and monthly stipend kept her required material comforts in place and Ralph from being too resentful and angry about having to spend any of his money on two bitches.

I also think by spring 2023 May was overwhelmed by Rozy’s new found mobility. She was no longer going to being able to rely on the crib to be a convenient baby jail whenever needed to tend to Ralph or she didn’t want to deal with Rozy. The amount of full attention required for a toddler (who can climb, walk, reach and grab) is massive compared to an infant you can just safely leave crying in play pen or crib. The days of just ignoring Rozy at her convenience had ended.

I think @Alinktothefacts gives May too much credit for any supposed protective maternal instincts, but he is basing things on the May he knew six years ago. I think May has changed, for the worse, since he was in regular contact with her.

Once her dad’s financial subsidies were stopped and the stress and attention required for a toddler started, the dramatic days of playing house with Gunt were over. May was raised in middle class comfort, so “begging for basic necessities” from angry drunk white trash was not a skill her wheelhouse. (If Ralph had plenty of money she could have easily got what she needed when he was passed out and it would never have been noticed, or made request while he was in the jovial drunk phase of the day. The May and Ralph drama were always May’s priority. I’m sure Rozy has spent a good portion of her first year old life alone, crying in a crib, while Mom and Dad either fought, fucked, ate and made online bullshit their priority.

Rozy basically got maternal attention when Ralph was ignoring May and when May was bored with looking at her screen. Ralph’s hollering always took precedent over Rozy’s crying. Ralph’s hungry fat belly and addictions were always the top priority. The unbothered, unhurried way May usually acted when Rozy was crying in the background was very telling to me. She was only bothered by Rozy’s wailing if it was irritating Gunt. If Gunt wasn’t acting bothered by the crying then she was oblivious to it. She was far more concerned about Ralph’s anger about the baby crying than she was about the crying baby.
