I cannot imagine "moving on" from my child. It's absolutely mindblowing to watch someone say they're going to "move on" from their toddler child. That's not the kind of thing you "move on" from. His kids never stood a chance. You move on from a gf or from a wife. You don't move on from a child, especially a toddler.

There was speculation he didn't really care as much about Rosie because she wasn't a son. Hard not to say that factored in.

This brings up some great childhood memories of my mom panic hitting a tape recorder under a chair to record my stepdad doing exactly this type of verbal abuse, then physical abuse once she got caught recording. This happened...20+ years ago and when I close my eyes now I can still see it PERFECTLY. That child is going to have such a fucked up life in today's world.

Eugh, even shitty parents put up a fight when Social Services try to take their kids. This is a horrifying thing to say about one's own child. If this shitshow had continued I wonder if Ethan would have "gone to the store for icecream" and fled to Guatemala to do this whole arc one more time with less money in even more of a shithole country.

Well you could say that. I didn't hit rock bottom, I hit rock bottom by proxy when someone close to me died of cirrhosis so I sobered up. But I was on track to be even worse off than Ralph. Only beer was my thing, not liquor + benzos for a time before I sobered up I was drinking up to 24 cans daily. (Tecate, around 5% alcohol) at that point I didn't remember drinking water I was just drinking beer the whole day.
