AI art is an extremely practical tool, IMO: It lets people create images of damn near anything on-demand, at low cost, and without all the copyright bullshit that plagues human-made work. (And personally, I consider the fact that it makes digital artists seethe to be a bonus.) It’s also pretty fun just to do, in a slot machine kind of way.
But it’s also one of those things where what is extremely impressive to you is impressive to almost nobody else.
To you, that picture amazing because it’s representative of an idea you tried to describe in words, and what the computer spat out was almost exactly what you were imagining. Even better, sometimes!
To everyone else, it’s just a picture of a rocket or some good-looking chick in the rain.
It’s like telling people about the crazy dream you had last night: Really interesting and profound to you, and completely meaningless idiot ramblings to everyone else.
