Oh yeah, make no mistake, EDF is THE ultimate HFY game in existence. EDF Earth has fought so many fucking horrible and world ending things that would put 40k to shame that the devs had to do continuity reboots every two games as to make sure the EDF don't go into space and outright invade the invaders.

Thinking about it that way it sounds like the origin story of Helldivers' Super Earth. It's really great to see that EDF has gone from a Simple 2000 game to something that is released globally while still keeping the original spirit/insanity instead of going serious. Do the translators even shoehorn in any Orange Man Bad references?

I don't recall any Orange Man Bad things in EDF 5, honestly its too "obscure" a title for the SJWs to latch on to, Its a B game (at AAA prices as far as EDF 5 and Iron Rain) full of B movie/game hi jinks.

Oh, the last part was just a dig at some translators localizing things coming out of japan.

These games rock and I can’t believe they aren’t more popular.
I agree, but also can see why people don't give them a chance. Most people will see the presentation and immediately think it's some garbage budget meme game. Even if they play the first few missions, these games start slow and don't pick up until you start getting better weapons (though that initial lull never returns with subsequent playthroughs, thanks to progression).

Sadly, most people just don't have the patience for it, and it doesn't have good graphics or a booming community of autists like Monster Hunter to use as a crutch. Though I infinitely prefer EDF to MH.

I like the EDF games, even though I usually accidentally flatten my friends with artillery strikes.
Don't you fucking lie. That note of panic when someone sees they're in the Red Stripey Death Zone is amazing.
interesting, tell me more.

EDF looks right up my alley, after i saw some videos i hope the EDF6 has more destructo physics on par with red faction gorilla games, it will look fokken sweet if they do it.

One of the potential classes is the Air Raider. Their entire thing is vehicles and artillery- they have guns too but most of them aren't too useful*, and their hp/armour is second lowest.

Vehicle wise, they start with simpler tanks, but at higher levels they can call in bigger tanks, THREE MAN TANKS, mechs, cavecrawler mechs GIANT MECHS THAT PUCH AND STOMP etc. They're all situational - a mission with lots of flying enemies will have more uses for the portable missile thing . Oh, and there's a really situational but funny ambulance.

As for airstrikes, you have standard bombings, but you also have more precise things, a carpet bombing. The areas which are going to be hit are lit up in red. Oh, and then there's the killsat, which is pretty awesome.

There's also defensive/healing/recharging beacons, forcefields and decoys, but I was always found MORE ARTILLERY to be a better solution.

They all have different recharge rates/costs, I think one of the more effective things in 4 was having two of the powerful but quickly-recharging strikes.

In 5 the Ranger actually takes some of the Air Raider's vehicles, including the EPSILON RAILGUN. Oh, and some of the helicopters, but the helicopters are some of the strangest handling helicopters ever, so I never got used to them.

*except when you've been grabbed by a giant spider, oh god.

I suppose since I brought it up, I may as well expand a little on this one. In EDF 5, at least, Air Raiders' support strikes tend to come in four main targeting flavors: let's call them beacon, grenade, laser and zone.
-Grenade is what it says on the tin, you throw a smoke grenade and your Magical Offscreen Thunderfucker Team drops a pie plate of ruin in the general area of where the grenade landed.
-Beacons are fired from a gun, usually calling in more precise gunship fire on a target - high-damage single rounds, things with smaller AoE but better tracking, that sort of stuff. They also tend to use a timed reload/cooldown rather than requiring your team to get enough kills to reload them like your more, ah... spectacular attacks need.
-Lasers are point-and-hold style targeting, for things like guided missiles and motherfucking laser cannons from space. Sometimes they are things you can paint a target and let God sort the ashes, but most of them will constantly track where the laser is pointing, like a giant cat made of high explosives, letting you do crazy shit like whip a missile barrage around like fucking boomerangs, because that guy over there? That one thinking he's safe around that corner? Fuck him and everything he loves.
-Zone attacks tend to call in massive strikes from aircraft, from strafing runs all the way up to bombers dropping 50 meter (or so) long walls of napalm like you're in bug Vietnam. Rather than firing a tracer or anything, when you start to deploy a Zone attack, the Air Raider will kneel on the spot while your camera pulls far, far back to give you a wide-angle view of the map, letting you move the Red Stripey Death Zone around until you have it just right - said Zone is fully visible by the other players while you're manipulating it, and many of them are fucking big. We're talking "fuck several city blocks" big, and God help you if it just stops moving on top of you.

Air Raider is everyone's best frenemy. Love him. Fear him.

They exist solely for cave missions as you can place them on top of your cave cralers for mobile buffs for your allies.
