My problem is that making your fantasy World as diverse as NYC with a perfect Balance of all races/genders/whatevers makes every place feel the same and removes the thrill of the exotic. This approach might call itself multicultural, but it removes more culture than it provides and we end up with slob like modern DA.
Race in fantasy is one of my favorite subjects as in spite of my racist tendencies, a world that not only contains multiple ethnic groups but also shows/tells where they come from and why they're in the world as they are is an excellent world that is a billion times more immersive than one with elves that display human phenotypes and ONLY human phenotypes and asks the audience to accept it because the writers are lazy and duplicitous.
The good: Zerrikanians and Ofieri in the Witcher games.
The world of the Witcher, especially TW3 was maligned by the assblasted gaming press for not having niggers. In the books and the games, Zerrikanians come from an Eastern land and are supposed to be the equivalent of pajeets or pakistanis (the shitty tv show would just make them niggers). They're not present in the games save for one as an antagonist in TW1 (left his homeland for a magical education in the Northern Kingdoms). The Ofieri are meant to be Turks/Near Easterners. They only show up as an entourage to a cursed prince who is there as part of an arranged marriage to a wealthy (and dead) heiress. We know where both groups come from and we know why they're there. Excellent world building.

The bad: Dishonored.
This one is only dumb once you see the world map. Before that, about the setting. The games take place in the Empire of The Isles. The Isles are four islands meant to represent Sweden/Denmark (Tyvia), Ireland (Morley), England/France (Gristol), and Spain/Italy (Serkonos). This is based off of the climate and geography. There are blacks in the Isles, mostly in Serkonos, the Southernmost island. That's all well and good until as I said, you see the larger map.

The Isles are so far North and it's established that there are humans on the unexplored Pandyssian Continent. It does not make sense for there to be dark skinned people on islands that for hundreds, if not thousands of years have remained estranged from other groups of humans. Darker skin would be found closer to the equator, which the map graciously provides.
In game, it has no bearing and it's honestly not noticeable unless you're a turbo nerd. It'd be funny for Dishonored 3 to address this with some stupid Yakubian tier retcon but more likely Arkane will just fill the game to the brim with blacks, assuming they're still around after they get done pissing on the corpse of Blade.
Apologies if that's all old news.
Black elves are peak laziness. There's so much you can do with non-humans that making them groidy is peak laziness.

bets on how many copies it will sell?

I reckon 250,000 opening week, maximum.
I think Bioware have a lot of the right ideas in order to get a large amount of sales. They seem to have all the stuff that the casual players liked about bg3 (romance, pets, fantasy setting, choices, relationship simulator, ect...) without the complicated rules or turn based combat that pushed some people away. It scares me to say this but there's a real chance this game actually sells well. Also there's basically no other rpgs coming out around the same time which is only going to help with the sale numbers.

I hate hate hate that fucking soy Qunari visage!
Isn't that a female Qunari?

"Aw shieeeet nigguh. You seen what dat crazy ass nieeguuh Fenharel did? Niigeehh went on n'tore the veil and shieeeeet. Punk ass niggggeh started summoning demons and shieeeet. Ayyee yoo dawg, we'z gunna fuck dat mudafuken nigguh and his bitch ass Evanuris crew. We'z rollin' with griffins n'shieeeet nao. Teach 'em a lesson, fuckin' with Grove Street."

I wonder if they based the artwork on a picture of Don Lemonlas from Amazon's Rangz of Power.

Waited 10 years just to get a repurposed live service game. The sparkle explosion when you open a treasure chest is telling.

Also unlisted like last time... What's marketing thinking?

What the actual fuck

Yeah. :shit-eating:

At first I assumed she meant like how people sometimes fall asleep to podcasts. How wrong I was. That's why I said that it will be fangirls like her that they're hoping will stimulate the sales numbers. They're the ones that are in it for the romance, and that's why Bioware is banking so hard on being able to bang every companion.

Is that thing in the middle a Qunari? Guess the AI doesn't understand that word and came up with a tiefling instead.

Man, they are really doing Qunari dirty in this one.

Channeling @Sailor Swift 's horny friend, if I have to pick one to fuck, the black elf seems like the least hideous one. BioWare has a history of TERRIBLE romances with black dudes though - fucking Jacob, that psycho in Mass Effect Andromeda, the one-note grieving widower in Mass Effect 3 ("STEEE-EEE-EEEVE!! *blinks and speaks in monotone* You okay?") - so I don't know. Does Zevran count as black? Guess he's alright.

OTOH, the mummified necromancer may be a right swipe if the skeleton gets to play along too...

Zevran's a tanned Spaniard expy, he's supposed to be the stereotypical "Spanish Lover" trope, but everyone and their uncle draws him with nigger skin tones because he's a precious "POC". Fenris also gets this treatment even though he's very much just a tanned white man. Even do this day you'll get accusations of "white washing" these two very Caucasian men if you don't slather them in charcoal lmao. I've colour picked their skins more than once for art and they're no where near as dark as some people claim them to be.

I could probably post my colour swatches for most of the DA characters and you'd get a pretty decent idea of just how often these fuckers blackwash everyone who's even the slightest bit golden tan.

Wait, Fenris doesn't even look black! I can understand why people think Zevran is black due to the darker, faded overall color scheme of Dragon Age Origins, but Fenris?

Dragon Age fans be Dragon Age-ing, I suppose.

Oh yeah an artist I follow recently just got her throat jumped down for how she drew Fenris, accusing her of white washing an already white man.

Which is way more accurate to Fenris in game than something like this is:

1725541898701.png

It's a combination of people using his Concept Art skin tone (He's much tanner in the concept art) and his new appearance in the comic book. (Even though he's still very plainly white there too.)

Eeuw, Carver in the concept art looks like he's walked out of a 1990s Disney cartoon. A rare case when the ingame art style does him more justice.

Ugh, Tallis. Can't stand that annoying know-it-all with an ugly mug. The worst thing about her DLC is that I can't push her off a cliff.

Well, if you hate Felicia Day-voiced characters and want to do awful things to them, Fallout: New Vegas has got you covered. Can I interest you in selling her to a tribe of cannibals?

Total Tallis Death, TTD if you would.

Pure mental illness there, just find changing the race of white characters but if you go even a single shade lighter the cry bloody murder. As for the colour swatches, please do, always funny to laugh at that sort of stuff, also that second piece looks nothing like him, hair, face look totally different.

God I didn't even see that you tagged me I'm sorry.

See, my choice was going to be Harding. But i don't like the super special tabletop oc vibe they gave her. She seems like she's going to make a Joss Whedon reference in the middle of a romantic scene. Everyone is just so quirky that (as the kids say nowadays) it gives me the ick.

God, you don't think they're going to put the skeleton in the sex cutscene, do you? Like as a quirky joke? Oh god. I'm calling it now. No lie. I think the cutscene with the necromancer will reveal that the skeleton watches.

Still mad we never got elcor artillery. Could you imagine a buddy cop elcor/hanar comedy?
"Weary. I am getting too old for this shit"
My personal hot take is that the best species in Mass Effect were all the weird little side dudes like elcor, hanar, volus, etc. and that I'd be cool with a game that only included humans and them. The asari, turians, and salarians were all basically just humans with funny hats.
