Then that shit snowballed in Inquisition.

The Qunari still have an edge in Inquisition, in particular Trespasser (which gave me hopes for how they'd be treated in DA4, or it did nine frigging years ago when I naively thought the next game would be both good and released soon). They're fully prepared to assassinate all the major heads of state of southern Thedas in retribution for Solas's fuckery, though whether the qunari in charge of the operation was a rogue agent or just plausibly deniable is never made clear. Further, if you sacrificed the Bull's Chargers to secure an alliance with the Qun, the fun-loving, hard-drinking, hard-fuckin' Iron Bull you know and (maybe) love betrays you during the last mission and you're forced to kill him. (Solas even rubs your face in it if that happens.)

I don't deny Inquisition was terribly softened in many ways from where things began in Origins, and even in DA2. But there was still a little bit of teeth there. This one looks like all that has been safely sanded away.

Why all of these factions and new lore? Can't they just write a fucking story with an engaging plot, unique characters and good setting? It isn't hard to write a story in a universe that's been handed to you.
Even if the story is fairly straight-forward 'team of people with different views put them aside to fight big monster, learn something on the way', it's better than "zomg, sooper kewl faction has this awesome thing, and this other faction, wow, they were done so bad, but it's ok, the characters are totally fun and kyewul".

On the EA/Bioware front, EA fucking hate single player games, They despise them with a passion because they can't milk them with MTX. They hate RPG's even more because they're large, replayable games. Slag off BG3 all you want, but it was a big game with replayability, which is poison to EA.
They want single-player games to die and they want RPG's to become to washed out and forgotten that the only 'rpg' we are left with are CoD and fortnite (yes, they are classed as RPG's by modern day faggots).

KCD was slated when it released for something something not enough niggers. It will be slated again. Not because minimal niggers, but because it's a fully fleshed out single player world that takes a long time to complete, taking time away from the Amerimutt's paypig simulators.

I remember there being a popular cope theory that a lot of what the Iron Bull tells his team about the Qun and Qunari is bullshit to gain their loyalty and trust. That could've been an interesting route to take but given the further pozzing of the series, I have zero doubts that they're going to continue down the "Qunari are strict but accepting people" road that they're on.

My bet is on Varric dying early in the deep roads, with some hamfisted stuff about his brother. With Harding being confirmed to have powers now and the blue glow on her face, there's probably something to do with the titans.

I'm so tired.
Varric was supposed to die in a cancelled DA2 DLC. There's no way he's surviving here.

No Shaper Valta?

You run into the problem the Tumblr fandom sees any "alien" society as basically coded vis a vis browns/indigenes/some other non White "Other" and to appease this section of the fandom, what is an interesting fictional society gets flattened into a caricature.

Valta isn't recognizable bait to try and get some fangirl loyalists to get the game. Why have a cool character when we can hear Varric give everyone nicknames for the third game in a row?

Renn was great-apparently he was in Metal Gear as solid snake(I never played Metal Gear?)

Varric dying is pretty much guaranteed. I actually like Varric but come on, let the man retire to run Kirkwall in peace.

Why they changed the name is beyond me.
I think the whole thing with Solas and the buildup for him to be the antagonist in the sequel was one of the things in Inquisition that was actually interesting and felt fresh.
"Dread Wolf Rises" was a decent name.
"Veilwatch" is fucking nothing.

Oh, so they decided to skip the good game part and go straight to the netflix adaptation

If I had to guess, I'd say someone got cold feet about revolving the game's plot around a side character from a 10 year old game. With how many times this game's development has been undoubtedly reset, I wonder how much Solas will actually show up.

I'm gonna say it: I think this is yet another example of talentless devs turning to Chat GPT to write a story and lore. Veilguard? No way this wasn't coined by AI. It's all just too generic sounding.
Go on, go to ChatGPT right now and ask it to write a DA:I sequel plot and marvel at how similar (and generic) the output is.

Here's what GPT gave me, let's see if it turns out to be similar to the plot for Veilguard.

Title: Dragon Age: Veil's End

**Plot Summary:**

Several years have passed since the Inquisition defeated Corypheus and Solas revealed his true identity as Fen'Harel, the Dread Wolf. Solas has since retreated from the world, leaving the Inquisition and its allies to manage the aftermath. Thedas has been relatively peaceful, but new and mysterious disturbances related to the Veil begin to surface, posing a threat unlike any before.

**Act I: Shadows of the Veil**

1. **The Rising Threat**: Strange occurrences and magical anomalies are reported across Thedas. People are vanishing, and rifts are opening unpredictably. The Inquisition, now a smaller and more focused organization, is called to investigate.

2. **Protagonist's Call**: The player takes on the role of a new protagonist, a mage or warrior with a unique connection to the Fade. They are recruited by the Inquisition to lead the investigation, joined by familiar faces like Cassandra, Varric, and Dorian, along with new allies.

3. **Discovering the Source**: The team uncovers evidence that the Veil, the barrier between the physical world and the Fade, is weakening. Ancient texts and elven artifacts suggest that the Veil's stability is failing due to an unknown force, and if not stopped, it could collapse entirely.

**Act II: The Broken Barrier**

1. **Political Maneuvering**: To address the Veil's weakening, the protagonist must secure alliances with various nations and factions. This involves navigating the political landscapes of Orlais, Ferelden, and Tevinter, and dealing with internal conflicts and power struggles.

2. **Searching for Answers**: The team embarks on a series of quests to ancient elven ruins, libraries, and forgotten temples. They seek knowledge about the Veil and discover hints about a powerful entity from the Fade, known only as the Whisperer, which seeks to tear down the Veil for its own mysterious purposes.

3. **Conflict and Revelation**: The Inquisition faces opposition from a secretive cult that worships the Whisperer, believing that the merging of the Fade and the physical world will bring about a new era. The protagonist learns that the Whisperer is an ancient spirit of immense power, born from the very creation of the Veil itself.

**Act III: The Final Stand**

1. **Rising Tensions**: As the Veil continues to weaken, the protagonist and their allies face increasing challenges. Rift activity escalates, and parts of Thedas begin to merge with the Fade, causing widespread chaos and fear.

2. **Assault on the Fade**: In a desperate move, the protagonist leads a mission into the heart of the Fade to confront the Whisperer. They navigate nightmarish landscapes, battle powerful spirits, and uncover the entity's true intentions—to reshape reality itself.

3. **The Climactic Battle**: The final confrontation with the Whisperer takes place in a realm where the boundaries between the Fade and the physical world blur. The protagonist must make crucial decisions that will determine the fate of the Veil and the future of Thedas.

**Endings:**

1. **The Veil Restored**: The protagonist manages to defeat the Whisperer and stabilize the Veil, preserving the separation between the physical world and the Fade. Peace is restored, but the cost is high, and the world is left to rebuild.

2. **A New Balance**: The protagonist reaches a compromise with the Whisperer, creating a new balance between the Fade and the physical world. This results in a world where magic is more powerful, but new challenges arise as the boundaries between realms are more fluid.

3. **The Veil Collapses**: The Whisperer succeeds in its plan, causing the Veil to collapse entirely. The physical world and the Fade merge, leading to a transformed Thedas where reality is ever-changing, and new alliances and conflicts emerge in this unpredictable landscape.

**Epilogue:**

The world of Thedas is forever changed by the protagonist's actions. Nations adapt to the new reality, and the protagonist's legacy is etched into history. Thedas faces a future filled with both opportunities and dangers, setting the stage for new adventures and challenges in the Dragon Age universe

I hope there is a "are we some sort of suicide squad?" moment.

"Somebody must guard the veil! ...Like some sort of Veilguard?"
*Gay generic pop starts playing while the black elf starts making out with a disabled dwarf while your OC nods approvingly*

From what I remember about the Quanri

Dragon Age Origins:

Women can only be in certain roles (like priests) and they don't fight (that was even brought up when you play as a female Warden and Sten starts with "You look like a woman")

Dragon Age 2:

Qunari treat their mages like shit and quanri do everything to complete their mission
Quanri accept converts to their believes though I am currently unsure how they stand in the hierarchy.

Dragon Age Inquisition

Qunari have their own secret police that spy on ther own people in a very 1984 style. Also renegades are hunted down because they are considered dangerous once they don't follow the Qun
and it's harsh disciplines anymore

If this gets turned into "Oh look at those poor things" I am gonna scream.

The original title is an adventure plot, the update a dating sim with a D&D backdrop. I don't think that's a coincidence, especially not with how they center the characters in the marketing. The cast looks like a higher budget version of that woke dating sim everyone made fun of, forgot its name.

I woud have preferred to go explore Tevinter than whatever Veilguard is. Also what happened to cassandra? Is she still around or...?
