I just checked on the good old /r/Dota2 subreddit (pretty much the only place to keep up with tournaments, don't judge me) and suddenly there's an explosion of posts about bullying, manipulation and sexual harassment. Have a gander:

Akke, a former pro player who won TI3, comes out about his sexual harassment: Twitlonger, Reddit thread (Archive 1, Archive 2)

TheFluffiestBunny, apparently a former streamer, speaking about an encounter with "Jim": Twitlonger, Reddit thread (Archive 1, Archive 2)

Someone talking about DotaDemon: Twitlonger, Reddit thread (Archive 1, Archive 2)

Some insufferable arsehole talking about stuff (I haven't watched this because I can't stand the guy): Reddit thread, YT link (Archive 1, YT vid is too big to attach, but I have it downloaded)

Purge has some things to say about Grant: Reddit thread (Archive) (I don't know how to archive Twitch clips)

Purge goes into further detail about Grant: Reddit thread, YT link (Archive 1, too large to upload, but I have it downloaded)

Grant's enablers are apparently the entirety of Beyond the Summit: Twitlonger, Reddit thread (Archive 1, Archive 2)

Not even the based Asian interviewer is safe: Twitlonger, Reddit thread (Archive 1, Archive 2)

I've made a bunch of fuck-ups in this thread because I didn't realise archive.is constantly rewrites the clipboard, so point out any errors I've missed. Also, if the staff think this would be better off in the Games board then I'm happy for it to be moved there.

I suggest you include a small write up of what the fuck Dota2 is, both for informational purposes and to give me something to judge you more harshly on.

Reddit actually has a much better summary:

My favorite:

A well-known Dota 2 caster invited me to the 2nd Dota Summit as a cosplay guest and we hung out a lot. We went to an afterparty together in one of the hotel rooms with a bunch of Beyond the Summit staff and pro players.

He was sleeping there and invited me to stay over so I didn't have to leave because I was drunk. We slept in the same bed. We didn't have sex, but he asked if he could tell everybody that we did.

He wanted to look cooler to the community by lying about what we did and I said yes. I let him...

I felt so ashamed that I didn't follow through with fucking him. He was this well-known caster, knew a lot of people in the industry I wanted to be part of, and got me - a worthless nobody - invited to a private event with powerful people.

I felt like I owed him something. And I'm so ashamed to say I didn't just stay away. I wish I was stronger...

He invited me out to Christmas at the BTS house. I knew what he was going to try and I went anyways because I wanted to be part of that group so badly. I wanted to matter more than I respected myself.

I got my period the first day there and said we couldn't do anything but we could still hang out. He pressured me to do it anyways. I spent the week there having sex with him every day while I was not feeling it, but feeling indebted to him like I owed it to him even thought it felt wrong.

After I got on the plane back home, he sent me a photo of bloody bedsheets. I was so ashamed and embarrassed of everything I had done: not had strength as a woman, valued his comfort over my own, wanted to be part of a group so bad I let myself do things that brought me discomfort and shame. I thought he would use the picture if I ever said anything. So I never did.

I knew being honest about it would hurt so many people. I wish I had been stronger that first night

Screenshots would be nice, or at least accurate tl;dw summations, rather than having a link we have to click on every time for each point made.

@Bender Can you give a tl;dr about what's happened? I'm very familiar with all the names but I'm struggling to piece the drama together.
Unfortunately, no, I hadn't checked in with the community for a couple of weeks and when I checked back today I was greeted with this. It looks like accusations of bullying, some #MeToo stuff and general strife amongst the most notable members. I'm still trying to piece it together myself.

Sorry, I'm not very good at making things sound interesting, feel free to give someone else the OP if you think that's best (and it probably is, lol).

Why did you even make this thread then?

I thought mods could let other users take over threads and I thought I'd make this thread as a starting point.

I guess I was wrong, sorry for bothering you guys.

Edit: In hindsight I should've just made this thread in the Games board.

I appreciate that you're striving to do better and learned something from this but I still have to give you a dumb rating on principle.

formless OP but interesting to see this happen considering how old and lucrative the dota2 community is at this point in time, hoping to see it fleshed out in any way

Not the first Dota 2-related drama/happening, definitely won't be the last. Off the top of my head I can remember Shanghai Major and Puppey behind the scenes shit back from around 2016-2017. If I had even a lick of interest in e-sports, I definitely would've been able to remember more.

So for future reference, this thread exists for a reason. While mods can transfer OP's, we'd rather the original author stick it out and do it themselves. That being said, if anyone does happen to do a better write up, we'll take care of it. Personally when it comes time-sensitive events like this, I think it might perform better as an A&H thread but that's mainly because idk if this is a reoccurring problem in the DOTA community. If it is, then I'd say it should have a Community Watch thread.

If someone does take up the charge for writing another OP, I'd suggest looking to see if this is a continuous issue with the community as well as any other controversies to help flesh things out. It's a gaming community so it honestly shouldn't be that hard to find. Nerds will literally throw hands over anything.

Good luck.

Dude, just download Bandicam. It's free and let's take screenshots of an adjustable size.

I think I should leave in the hands of someone more capable than me who has better storytelling abilities, but thanks for the info, I'll bear it in mind next time.

At least I remembered to archive everything!

tl;dr random cosplay whore gets special treatment for being a random cosplay whore, sex for favors, fucking for clout, etc. years later she feels sad about this and tries to turn it into some kind of #metoo event in order to get some more validation from it?

all this shit is so fucking tiresome. letting women out of the kitchen was a disastrous mistake.

As it stands we already have a Dota 2 thread in games that gets no action whatsoever that this event could've gone into if people bothered to look and see what threads are around. Might even cause more people to use said thread in the future. Its probably going to be an event that shakes up the community aspect of the game and then it'll settle down so I don't think I see a need for community watch.

Really I think this just shows that the first step to making a thread is to make sure there isn't one first.
