Well not even about making legit good movies, just movies and shows the masses will eat up, movies such as the Transformers one or many of Disney's own Marvel movies aren't good but do people love to watch them. But it's a sad state of cinema when Scorsese has to go to streaming for his movies to have any budget of note and of the people that made huge hits in the past would struggle to get a new movie made unless it's based on something already of note.
Even more depressing is how certain circles imploded when Scorsese likened comic book movies to theme parks. So many super intelligent people claiming that they learned more about the human condition watching Guardians of the Galaxy than they did Raging Bull or Goodfellas. Of course, that’s assuming they’ve even watched a Scorsese film. These people are scared to death of nuance and ambiguity.

They can't stand it when you have actually characters who aren't completely evil or good. They just like the good guys vs bad guys. No morally grey characters please.

Scorsese was being kind, most Marvel movies even fail with that. They look so bland and have dull action at best, not thrilling in the slightest for the most part.

Nor can they comprehend that depiction does not equal endorsement. It’s unbelievable how much dumber people are these days when it comes to understanding how entertainment works.

They've regressed. They think fiction needs to explicitly conform to their morality and teach the right lessons. It goes along with their shallow interpretation of "all art is political"

I agree. You couldn't make a movie on Hitler today about how he went form a kid with a shitty life to the brutal dictator he is today. Becuase retards would think you are trying to get people sympathize with him. When your just trying to show how his shity life ended up impacting him to becoming one of the most evil men in history.

Look no further than Black Panther. And yet it's one of the most praised of the Marvel movies. It's combat consists of cgi cat fights and retarded land battles.

Why does Disney's new art style make characters look like they have microcephaly or hydrocephalus? Their faces looks so fucking annoying, I want to punch them

It's the continual attempt to make all characters genderless, featureless blobs so that they don't have to put effort into much in character design, and so they attempt to appeal to everyone. It's the same philosophy behind people of flat shit. Just in 3d.

That right image literally looks like the CalArts style transferred to 3D.

I've always thought of it as Akira Toriyama or Ghibli homages (with the latter explicitly being an inspiration for Luca). I never even heard of this term until it was used for culture war shit

Yeah, I wish it was like that. At least if it was like this, there would be a little bit of a soul to most Western Animation, more akin to the overworked Japanese salaryman, but a soul nonetheless.

Instead we have "intellectuals" and "creative types" making "enjoyable experiences". Not to mention the politics, ideology, etc etc.

I'll give Luca a pass for at least looking stylized/different enough from like Pixars last few movies using the generic art style they've been using since like inside out. But yeah that new disney movie looks ugly as fuck lol.

Yeah Luca at least looks like a specific person's style that isn't the generic cookiecutter Disney/Pixar one. Honestly, I think part of the reason Disney has been doing a lot of movies with non white characters is they got a lot of flak for Disney sameface. Remember when their CGI female character designs were criticized for all looking too similar? They're trying to prove they can make characters that aren't white girls who look like Rapunzel, I suppose.

Yeah, I noticed that while it's still Pixar, the character designs had a bit more personality than usual while looking unmistakably Italian, and definitely has a touch of Studio Ghibli inspiration (least for the tone). The designs of the sea monsters, however, weren't all that impressive, so I was super glad they were human for the majority of the movie.

If you want to see real 3D CalArts look no further than Pixar's upcoming Turning Red.

The character doesn't look so beanmouth-y in stills, but all her exaggerated expressions are Steven Universe in 3D. This is a deliberate design choice.
