Couple days late, but this was in response to Disney pulling Turning Red from theaters. Take it with a grain of salt, though, but wouldn't be surprised by this. Who was the one to say Bob Chapek was gonna be the fall guy, 'cause I think you're on to something.

To all of those Pixar employees that want to say "fuck it I'm leaving and making my own band", all I can say is...

SkyDance might welcome them if they just pack up and leave right now.

"Well, well, well. Look who's come crawling back......"

Since we are talking about Encanto, can I just say that the main character, Mirabel, looks like some girl who I would see in an art school?

Like the sort of girl who would have a shit ton of anime pins on her backpack, goes on tumblr all the time, use internet lingo frequently in conversation and would proclaim herself to not be "like the other girls" despite desperately wanting the popular girl to like her?

Heck, she's the only one in the family wearing glasses!

I swear to god this is someone's self insert.

I guess I'm more middle of the road with Encanto. I thought it was cute with some good songs, but outside of that, it isn't going to stick with me.

I liked it more than Wreck It Ralph 2, which was insufferable and annoying, but nowhere near as much as some of the true Disney classics that I grew up with like Lion King or Beauty and the Beast. It occupies a weird middle ground where I was okay with it, but if you asked me again in a year, I'd probably struggle to remember it.

EDIT:

This is one of the screenwriters, Charise Castro Smith.

Jeeeeeez!

Remember when they used to base Disney characters off of famous people? Like Aladdin was based on Tom Cruise and I think Pocahontas they drew from Naomi Campbell and a few other supermodels.

This is just...YAY! I get to put myself in a Disney movie!

The narcissism of the current generation of "artists" just floors me.

Walter fucking wept.
thinking a bit about Uncle Walt canon gals, Tinkerbell was under his watch
was going through the old "here's vaguely winter shit compiled with Jiminy Cricket so Christmas or something" and serious Tinkerbell's animation in that one sequence alone is like, a big old helping of, anime-grade "heh we're not being lewd, that's just a totally normal position that chicks end up in"
I know there's the legends of the one dude who animated Mickey And Minny humping and Walt was all "hahaha that's hilarious you're fired." but what's some other arguments for him going full tezukaperv

That's not even getting into the shit the Renaissance-era animators would pull....animators are horndogs.

>China allows this in movie theaters
>just draws $3.22 million
>yet does not have Disney+ operate in their country

This is both hilarious and disturbing if we’re being honest. All throughout awards season I was told that this breaks the “diversity stereotypes” in North America, yet in China, they look at this as just a shrug.

These new-age Disney films are making money, but moving to the Chinese market, they’re just being looked at as amateur films to pass the time while not even remembering what you just watched.

That's what they get for pandering to them so hard, knowing how nationalistic they are.

I will give Encanto credit for at least being entertaining. Not really memorable, but entertaining. Half an hour after watching it I couldn't really remember any of the songs.

Ron's Gone Wrong was funny to me. The titular robot is like an asshole Number 5.

Kind of sad too. Since Walt Disney was starch anti-communist. Now his company is kissing up to a communist country destroying what he stood for.
