I love the Deus Ex games. I’ve played through Human Revolution and I’m playing the original

The game nails cyberpunk better than Cyberpunk 2077. It’s almost prophetic how the game depicts events and conspiracy theories.

Human Revolution is great. Some people hate on the game and I don’t understand the game. Yes it’s not as good as the OG, but to me, walking around Detroit and Hengsha and immersing myself in the world is thoroughly enjoyable. I also own the first Deus Ex novel which features Ben Saxon. A nice “in between” for HR and Mankind Divided.

I’m disappointed Deus Ex is cancelled. Cyberpunk 2077 proved to the market that cyberpunk games are in demand, and Deus Ex would be a perfect competitor in the cyberpunk scene.

I try to be a pacifist, but then I remember that I'm going up against mercs who work with FEMA, and Chinese people, and it becomes impossible to not kill anyone.
Somehow I got through both Mankind Divided and Human Revolution with a pacifist run, Human Revolution was more of a pain in the dick though Especially during one part where you have to save Malik, the game gives you fuck all ammo for your stun gun, so I went around as fast as I could knocking everyone out which took me like 10 tries

Just watch some big name conglomerate buy the rights to Deus Ex and make a soy version of it where the UN and other globohomo orgs are painted as the good guys and the small factions fighting against them are the bad guys. It will be like reverse Killzone where the protagonists are the Helghast.

As If Squeenix and Embracer haven't done their jobs already?

I agree with @fuck product placement that the previous IP owners basically already did that, but it would be hilariously vindicating for them to essentially prove that the NSF had a point.

Didn't the first game already do that, though? The guy you talk to during the prologue drops a bunch of red pills, and a lot of the datafiles and stuff you find mention that the Feds have basically sold out to the UN/MJ-12, as if UNATCO being based on Liberty Island wasn't enough of a sign. What got the NSF going was shocker, a gun grab, and they're the de facto government of a pretty big chunk of the USA.

Don't forget shit like this:
APR - Portland

Madison High School junior Betty Souza will spend the semester at the Canyon City Bootcamp, say school officials. The crime? "We have verified that she told another student that she knows how to make a bomb," said Principal Martin Gordly.

What makes this case notable is that the parents have filed a lawsuit against the school district. "Our daughter wears black," said father Brandon Souza in a prepared statement. "She has an occipital jack and we let her use it to play games. We allowed her to get a tattoo when she turned 16, but none of this makes her a criminal."

The parents claim that Betty was discussing a novel by Tom Robbins taught at Madison High when the mention of explosives occurred.

Betty Souza will not be alone in Canyon City. Last year 15,234 young people served sentences in the state's FBI-run "good behavior" camps, a legacy of the Northwest War.
APR - Washington D.C.

Defying Congress for the third time this year, President Mead unilaterally paid the United States' late dues to the United Nations. "Like good tenants, we must pay our rent on time," he told reporters.

Leaders of both parties criticized the move. "Where does he get the cash?" asked Senator Ridon (D-Illinois). "Clearly from some budget item yet to be approved by this Congress."

The Republicans were no kinder. "This council member has been betrayed, and so has America," said Senator Osno Liverpoole (R-California). "The Congress came together to approve a UNATCO presence on U.S. soil, but we did not write a blank check. No, sir. A superpower does not pay rent."
The USA? Good tenants? Awww hell naaaaw!

Hell, its not like JC is a UN glowie doing whatever the fuck he wants on US soil or anything, right?

You wouldn't think the tranquilizer rifle would work on armor, but it does. It just takes a long time for it to work. So I use it as a time-delay knock out weapon while I taze or hit everyone else while eating candy bars to use stealth. You also have to have a spare EMP to take out the box guard too, so to get through that part requires a bit a foreknowledge that you wouldn't have on a first playthrough.

I took this mini gun I had been saving in my pocket the whole game and aggroed everyone by shooting as many enemies as possible. As long as they shoot you and not malik you don't have to kill or knock them all out.

I wonder if there would have been one more prequel that would have bet set in the U.S. and showed the formation of the NSF and its rebellion against the government. Less cyberpunk more paranoid political thriller in tone.

I always thought the lore of the NSF was cool and how there was a battle of Snoqualmie always kind of sparked my imagination as a kid since I am from Washington.

it would never reach the height of it's peak, and you couldn't do a game like deus ex in current year anyway with the media ready to screech about "alt-right conspiracy theories" and comparing it to alex jones.
without it it would just be "generic" cyperpunk/scifi with a transhumanist bent, and there are already quite a few indies who fill that niche if that's what you're looking for (some even quite pretty, like the ascent, or with an interesting scope like cloudpunk or shadow of doubt)

Yeah but it won't happen because, That's Terror.
Terror built into the system
.

For what it's worth, Snoqualmie pass is pretty dangerous for traveling at times, so it makes sense if the feds got ambushed there they'd get their asses handed to them. It'd be like Monida or Lookout pass.
Also, fuck Seattle. Make Kootenai a state.

Any love for Invisible War? It was my first Deus Ex, and I must've put at least 100 hours into it as a middle schooler. Only later did I realize everyone seems to hate it, probably mostly as it's held uo as the sequel to this beloved cult classic game.

It's a decent charming little game on it's own (it's quintessential early 2000s Sci-Fi and I love that shit); but as a sequel it's not good, but not terrible either.

I got you. Invisible war is not a bad game. On its own its solid. By far the biggest sin of it is that it follows such an excellent game. 5 feels a lot worse following an 11 rather than a 7.

That side plot where the teachers at that private school in Cairo are actually killing the kids because they're augmented was a fairly dark concept for 10yr old me to process. The bar in Seattle was also fun to sick around in, Deus Ex games always have at least 1 good bar/club level

The big issue is the new artificial constraints forced on by the consolization of the game. If they had not been forced to use universal ammo and those extremely segmented maps I'd have like IW a significant amount more. Also lmao IW running an exe in an exe in an exe to play.

You are not wrong. I mean if there was ever a case to be made for an update/remake of a game....
