Deus Ex was always the better Cyberpunk-themed story than Cyberpunk itself.
Hell the fucking thing has about become as close to a prophecy as anything ever has been for foretelling how things would turn out.

Cyberpunk is just too over the top and edgy. Not saying thats bad but jesus the world it sets up is so insanely soul crushing you wonder how anything happens or its institutions stay functional when everyone is getting fucked in the ass 24/7 or trying to fuck you in the ass 24/7. Also it turned out to be as inaccurate as Deus Ex was accurate. Creators clearly took the whole "japan will own everything" scare in the 80s to heart.

One of my favorite parts in Human Revolution is when you're in Hengsha and you when you speak to one of the Chinaman NPCs he says" you should learn Mandarin. Then we'd both understand."

I just spent the past month playing Human Revolution: Director's Cut, and it's my first time playing the game in a decade. Honestly been a ton of fun, especially since it was more or less a blind playthrough, since I didn't remember like 90% of the game. Hengsha's layout was totally different from how I thought I remembered it, and I almost did a double-take when the Hengsha Port explosion led to the Rifleman Bank Station expansion instead of Singapore. I didn't realize the former was the game's one expansion.

I really enjoyed it. I started off by focusing on hacking skills, since those were by far the most-useful perks to have throughout the entire game. I'm already thinking about starting New Game+ to mess around with my full arsenal in the early levels.

I also just started the first game, since I wanted to play them "in order" (minus the other games like Mankind Divided or Secret War, I'll play those on their own some time). I forgot how dark Deus Ex is, and I don't mean thematically dark, but dark dark. Game's dark as shit. Had to jack my brightness up just to see where I was going. Great soundtrack, though. I have to get used to playing with a mouse & keyboard which I HATE because I've always been a gamepad/controller fan, but it is what it is.

What's everyone's favorite weapons in Human Revolution? I ran a silenced assault rifle for most of my playthrough, but I wound up learning that I actually really liked the machine pistol after losing my gear and being forced to use what I could find in the expansion. I also kind of liked the shotgun, but only after adding the burst fire mod and some damage upgrades. Without those it's hot garbage. I sort of want to try using the crossbow, but I feel like the ammo is way too rare.

My favorite run was a pacifist run where I only stocked up on Typhoon ammo for the bosses (this was before the DC that added in pacifist options). The Typhoon is amazing and does make you feel like a walking nuke.

On violent runs, I toyed with a variety of weapons, but I have to admit a fully upgraded silenced pistol with armor piercing rounds is kind of crazy as you can mow through even a heavily armed crowd with well placed head shots. Line it up right, and you can go through them all before they even realize you've broken stealth.

The original game's nano-sword is hard to beat though.

Speaking of HR - how hard did any of you work to save Faridah Malik when your ride was shot down? I saved scum that sequence for like a week before I moved on. Showing that sequence and the typhoon going off are my biggest arguments for just how cool a Deus Ex movie could be.

That's an issue with modern systems not working well with the ancient engine. Get Kentie's launcher or a custom renderer from the pcgaming wiki, that should fix it.

I've done it twice with one being a pacifist run. Stock up on gas grenades and fling them around like no tomorrow. The fight goes pretty quick if everyone is choking. For the bot I just dragged and threw the bodies as quick as possible before blowing it up.

Oh nice! On my pacifist run I just left her because I didn't think about that possibility. Now I want to redo it and try saving her while keeping everyone alive. That's some real Batman shit there!

Thanks! Best of luck. Yeah pack some gas grenades, mines and protein powder so you can just aug around knocking out dudes. If you have everyone incapacitated before the bot drops then it's just dragging them clear and cloaking. Then you can blow that up with EMPs. You gotta go fast but it's fun and rewarding if you pull it off.

I planned on going pacifist, but I didn't realize that the prologue mission counted towards the achievement, and I'd already killed most of the guys in that. I just did sorta-pacifist instead. I went out of my way to spare as many enemies as possible, but went all-out if I thought I was surrounded or if the enemies "deserved it", like with Malik's ambush or the guards in Rifleman Bank Station. For the final chapter, I just jumped over all of the augmented workers.

I didn't save Malik, though. I'll try and do that next time. I apparently missed a few side quests and events, so now I have more of a reason to play NG+.

Thanks. I got the launcher (and installed an HD textures mod while I was at it) and it looks a lot better now. Now I don't have to squint to see children explode into meat chunks from my LAMs.

Yeah, no joke the prologue mission is probably the hardest part of a pacifist run. If you can get through it, the game becomes almost too easy. If you pick up weapons and ammo to sell, you'll be so loaded with cash you can buy out every store. You'll also have tons of inventory space and you rack up so many aug points doing non-lethal takedowns and getting ghost achievements you'll basically be a god by the time you reach China (especially since you don't need the combat augments). I've actually found a Doom run (where you try to kill them all) more challenging than I did the pacifist one.

Before the game came out, I remember reading some interview with the Eidos Montreal people going on about tweaks they made and one of them was that they had to dial back the ammo pickups as they found the game had become too easy.

I try to be a pacifist, but then I remember that I'm going up against mercs who work with FEMA, and Chinese people, and it becomes impossible to not kill anyone.
