I'm replaying Destiny 1 again and enjoying it so much more. I find myself appreciating it a lot more right after playing D2 because of how much slower it is, which is something I've already discussed before. Right now in Destiny 2 the gameplay gives you no time to pause. You're constantly rushing from objective to objective, or fighting enemies, with very little breaks in-between. This gives you much less time to observe your surroundings in the game during breaks, or just when traversing, especially with the faster movement and TTK. And the armors too, are much better. In Destiny 2 it became a lot less grounded, with the last season pass giving us armor of our guardians in beach clothing with exposed skin. Or you have the collab skins, with us able to play dressed up as Stormtroopers, Darth Vader, etc. You could write entire essays shitting on the microtransactions in D2.

That recent Divinity nerf in Pantheon really speaks to me. The game is dead, most of Bungo got laid off, but whatever skeleton crew can stop crying about woe is me long enough to still make hot fixes against guns and strats that make encounters easier.

Game devs in 2026 will move heaven and earth to ensure that no one is having fun playing their game.

the entire game revolves around being anti-fun because of wow-minded fags and console plebs, also general peacocking if you remember the "best dressed" commendation.
and there are fags that will praise this decision and call you a shitter if you don't like that, what makes it worse is that they are not baiting.

Surprisingly I think a decent bit of the playerbase still has some sense of aesthetic. I've gotten that commendation a few times since I came back to the game and still see players who don't use the ridiculous glowy cosmetics and the ugly rainbow faggot shit that plagues the store.
Granted, I see just as many hideous pieces of shit wearing the ugliest fucking armor and color combinations as well. Though in my opinion, the biggest offenders are the retards who use pure black shaders.

It's truly fucking disgusting what they've done to this game, aesthetically.

My guardian is always ugly because I'm randomly slapping stuff together for stats. Though with all the set bonus stuff now it usually ends up at least a little more cohesive. I give out the 'best dressed' commendation randomly. Just a habit from when you needed to commend people endlessly to progress the guardian ranks or whatever.

Are you guys immersion gamers or something? It's really hard for me to care about what my character is wearing in a third-person game, let alone an FPS.

There's something to be said for a game (or any work) having a coherent, consistent art style, even if you aren't looking at your own character most of the time.

Destiny 1 was considerably more grounded and realistic with its armor sets, and there was a natural progression from the basic gear you started out with to gradually more impressive and built-up armor. Fantastical designs were reserved for the endgame that let people easily see that you were able to handle the toughest challenges, and thus they were rarer to see than your standard armor sets. This fit with the overall setting of the game, the remnants of humanity making do with what they had, and it helped set the tone of a struggle against mythical forces. Think medieval knights going off to slay a dragon.

Destiny 2 kept this going for a little while at the start with the actual gear you could wear, but very quickly they were putting in ornament sets that were wildly different from the established art style. It leaned more heavily into the fantastical designs, sometimes drawing from the game's own mythology but frequently just going with whatever design the artists decided to work on at the time. Holidays were even worse for this, with more and more armor sets being brought in that looked like cheap costume knockoffs than anything that would fit with the game's aesthetic. And that's without even getting into all the licensed crossovers that literally just ported designs from other franchises into the game. Now, there's no single "Guardian" aesthetic to point to, people can run around looking like Darth Vader or Slenderman or any number of Technicolor monstrosities. This does somewhat fit into the setting itself becoming more fantastical, but I don't know if there's causation either way. Did the game's story becoming less grounded lead to less grounded designs, or did a loosening of the game's aesthetics give leeway for the story to go wilder? I dunno.

To be fair, even after many years of these trends, I still notice most players shy away from being too ridiculous with their outfits. They may like to wear something flashy, but not to extreme eyerape levels. Lots of people still manage to create grounded and visually appealing outfits to run around in, which really does make the bad ones all the more jarring. I just miss the more uniform aesthetic that we used to have.

Everyone has a desire to make their chaacter look good, even if they're not fashion minded.

I ran Equilibrium earlier with randoms and had to kick a retard who kept leading Harrow away from the floor trap that drains his shield for damage. I couldn't tell if the guy was trolling or retarded.

I guess I can see that, it just doesn't bother me with this particular game. But I have to admit that I far prefer Battlefield having mostly normal military looking skins to the bullshit COD has been doing in recent years.

I don't know about that. I mean if my Destiny character defaulted to a Concord-esque abomination I wouldn't be too happy. But so long as the default isn't offensively bad I'll just ignore it. The game could offer zero cosmetic customization and it wouldn't change my play habits at all.

Couldn't say without a clip, but not being aware during the Harrow fight could plausibly just be retardation. I don't bother with LFG these days, I mostly just run solo dungeons, and occasionally help people I actually know. Harrow's a pretty comfy solo two-phase.

When Vesper's Host was new-ish and I was running the final encounter weekly to get the exotic, there was this one troll on the in-game Fireteam Finder who would let you do the mechanics upstairs, then when you went downstairs to dunk the nukes he would pull the scanner buff up top so that you couldn't find the right clone to kill and would die. Took until the second run to notice what was actually going on (guy with the scanner buff upstairs dancing), and once me and the other guy left, sure enough he was looking for more victims on Fireteam Finder. I can appreciate quality trolling but that's just pointlessly wasting everyone's time including your own.

With the way the transmog system works now there's literally no excuse to jestermax. It takes seconds to change gear appearance.
Destiny UI is complete dogshit, the transmog is just more dogshit buried a few menus deep. There would be less friction if the transmog were set per gear slot rather than per individual piece. Then you could just set it and forget it and you'd have more of a point.

If anything, lore lovers should appreciate my approach. After all the guardian is kind of a homeless magic murder zombie nercomanced into existence by a cowardly white ball of bullshit. You cobble together much of your power from picking shit up off of random aliens you murder. Transmog fashion nazis are in fact the true immersion breakers.

While Destiny's UI is, in general, trash you are also probably a literal retard if you find it difficult to move one page down and click on a square inside a menu you're already in while changing gear in the first place.

I do agree with this though. Just let me set a static outfit regardless of equipped gear, but at the same time once you apply a cosmetic to a piece it's also set on that piece until you change it. There's still no excuse to look like the Tower's local jester walking around in mismatched shit and I will always shame the homeless looking guardians running around without putting even a modicum of effort into having a decent looking set on.

Took me a while to realize that Simmumah was the same witch I would absent mindedly nuke during one of my many strange terrain runs. I think I ran that strike well over a hundred times. It's nice to see that she is carrying on her father's legacy by commiting heresy with her grandfather.
