All this talk reminds me of an episode of Empty Nest where one of the daughters is dating a blind guy who is a total jerk. Despite her flakiness, she comes to realize that once you toss aside the things he's missing out on, he's no different than anyone else and she calls him on it. (Same goes for that episode of Family Guy where Chris dates a downs syndrome girl.) They're not saints or special, just people who might need some help at times.

The 'disabled people are people too' thing often gets misconstrued as 'disabled people are good people too'. No, sometimes they're assholes like everyone else.

If anyone wants to see a bunch of angry Deaf people spewing out hate against hearing people AND Taco Bell in your friendly Facebook neighbor, then check this out.

---

I was at a conference once and one of the seminars offered was how to deal with deaf people in the healthcare setting. That's when I found out how absolutely full of themselves deaf people are. Such attitude and smugness.

I've also worked with a couple of deaf people when I was in retail, and they BOTH were varying degrees of asshole. Dunno if that was necessarily related to being deaf or not, but I imagine so.

One of those guys use to sit in the break room with his hearing aids turned all the way up so that it kept making feedback noises. I asked him (rather nicely I thought) to turn them down once and I got the biggest stink eye from him. He turned them down, but acted like a big fucking sourpuss toward me the rest of the day.
Wow, normally other d/Deaf/HoH people are insecure about their hearing aides making feedback noises, but, this guy is special.

They're not wrong.

I remember he once "borrowed" my Weird Al "Straight Outta Lindenwood" CD and would listen to the Amish Paradise song at max volume in his room because our Mom wouldn't let him get real rap music.

It was pretty funny.

But "Amish Paradise" is from Bad Hair Day I think Straight out of Lynwood is known for "White and Nerdy" (Ridin' Dirty)

Technically true. To say "lesbian," you use the sign for "L" and tap it on your chin. For "gay," you do the same thing with the sign for "G."

Fun fact: those are actually relatively new signs. In the 1900's, the signs for "gay" and "lesbian" were much more vulgar and suggestive due to homosexuality being seen negatively during that era.

Our old sign for "China" / "Chinese" used to be literally using your finger to make your eyes slanted.

It had to be changed around a decade ago or less because it was racist. It's now this non-racist sign.

"A decade ago or less?" I'm pretty certain I've seen the non-racist version being used earlier than that. (Mid to late 90's, as far as I can remember.)

On that note, I remember when racist signs for certain countries and ethnic groups were still in use. Off the top of my head, there were politically incorrect signs for Asia/Asian, Japan/Japanese, and Africa/African (the former two being signed similarly to the old version of "China/Chinese.") Since at least the late 90's (in my experience) the more politically correct versions for these respective signs came into favor.

It was changed earlier than about a decade ago? Damn, I guess I came in the party way too late.
I've been signing that racist version for my whole elementary school years until middle school year and other people corrected me. They told me it was a recent change to that sign.

What does this mean!? Is Deaf a race now? Are they saying that blacks have a harder time in live because of genetics? Is having a black baby hard mode on the game of Life? I'm sure they said this to sound progressive, but it sounds so racist.

Until I saw that phase "What does this mean!? Is Deaf a race now?" I suddenly remembered a deaf lolcow from a couple of years ago and dug around a little bit and there she is!

I introduce you

DestinyMew- Aka Reptonic, , it seems like she is still active around the deaf community with her campaign for Deaf people and once claimed that deaf is a race.

It looks like her ED article is ancient as fuck. The last major edit was from 2013 and that information alone, tell me she matured a lot since then if it stayed inactive for that long, and that is extremely rare for lolcows to grow up. I commend her for getting out of that phase.

Because she is a rare case of lolcow, I got interested and dug up on her more.

Her works are ok-ok. She have potential and she have room for improvement in her animation works.
If she didn't go to Art Institute, she probably would've gotten better than where she is at right now.

What "art institution" would be better for her or any artist really to go to to make big strides in their work?

If she really wants to enroll into another college just to learn more about animation, then the best bet for her would be going to those colleges based on a very high amount of notable alumni who's still relevant today:
-CalArts (This one is recommended.)
-School of Visual Arts (This one is very good too.)
-Savannah College of Art and Design (This is more of a fine art education, but they have a good reputation in the animation industry.)

She doesn't really need to attend another college, the loan is fucking terrible these days and if she decides to attend to another school right after dropping out of or graduating from The Art Institute of Pittsburgh, then she will find herself buried deep in student loan. Trust me, they are a known predatory school and her degree will be worthless. Other jobs out there will laugh at her after seeing where she attended to learn animation on her resume. This will become a very ugly situation for her. I am surprised she did not do any research online, there are so many fucking red flags in a very simple google search of her art college. Look it up.

I stumbled upon something aggravating from when I googled her name with her college up.

The Art Institute of Pittsburgh used her as a pity trophy to show they provided her ASL interpreter while barely focusing on her works.

Instead of worrying about rigged student loan for the sake of higher education, she can start applying for internship now so she can learn from professional, possibly do some work hands-on. That will be extremely beneficial for her in the long run. In my opinion, that strategy is much better for her to learn from the professional instead of failed animator or non-animator as professors in college talking out of their intellectual asses.

Do you personally know her?

A&E got to give the Deaf community a special treatment today. A&E's Born This Way will have special Deaf Out Loud airing today.

Here's the trailer.
