But who cares, I feel like a cyborg with it. It's pretty cool!
You and me!
I was always surprised we didn't have this thread.
Hey remember when some deaf assholes decided that because a small minority of people on the planet couldn't benefit from free knowledge released on the internet, no one can?

Rundown:
There was a time when you could basically audit most or all classes at major universities (Harvard, MIT, etc) for free thanks to visual\audio recording. They just set up recording equipment in the classrooms and then streamed it for free to whomever wanted to watch. Think about how amazing it was that, thanks to 2015 technology, some poor black kid in Alabama with no money to leave his town could learn about astrophysics by watching some of the most accomplished minds teach as long as he could find an internet connection, even a local library.
But not anymore! Because a number of assholes (particularly Stacy Nowak and Glenn Lockhart) decided that wasn't good enough. So, the universities faced a choice. They could either pay huge amounts of money to transcribe the videos and audio to the specifications required (for a program they were offering for free to everyone) or end it. Since they weren't going to make any of that money back, guess what they did? Stacy and Glenn don't care, they have all the jobs and degrees they need already. You'd think maybe they would have raised money to help transcribe the stuff themselves instead of suing, but nah.
There was this video on facebook about a girl being taken away from her grandma- and it was very clear said girl was in distress- and all this woman had to say was how rude it was that the poster of the video didn't put captions on for D e a f people.
Honestly, I think it's fine if they ask for captions, doesn't bother me. It's just that so many have sticks up their asses and are so eager to call someone out for being rude just because they had the nerve to not caption a video.
I understand the importance of closed captioning, it's so important that it's a requirement stated by Americans with Disabilities Act. I'm a very nosy person so hell yes, I like to know what is going on with everything.
I wish they all would chill out. Yes, I get it can be pretty frustrating repeating the same request again and again almost every day, but, this is not a good excuse to be an asshole. Deaf community desperately needs to be held accountable for acting like a bunch of animals when it come to requesting for accessibility. Often, when it comes to requesting for accessibility, I almost never see them try to sit down and guide them through the process. But no. It's as they want to keep this one-sided to make up for their Deaf bitterness.

I just wonder what is wrong with these people (and the part of the autistic community which is adamantly against any kind of cure or treatment, which is the majority nowadays) to make them so prideful and tribalistic. Oh wait, don't have to wonder with the autistic community. That kind of makes me wonder if autism and deafness is comorbid...
I vaguely remember reading from somewhere, the autistic community is following into Deaf community's path to captialize the letter "A" for Autistic.
I know they dislike cochlear implants, but what about hearing aids meant for people who still have some ability to hear? Or, like, I used to be some degree of hearing impaired as a kid and I had a bunch of surgeries and now I'm fine--would that also be bad in their view?
That's a good question. Back then before cochlear implant took over the popularity, the Deaf community had the exact same hate and concern for hearing aides. Like with cochlear implants, they felt like hearing aides are a way to kill off the Deaf culture aka "cultural genocide" (Not my words.)
If you have a excellent grasp on ASL and is part of the "Elite" Deaf community, then you're safe. Actually, fuck what they think.
I'm kind of surprised that I haven't seen many deaf lolcows aside from Kylie.
An early version of my original post had links to all Deaf lolcows. I think it's ok for me to link them all here. Cheer.

Was the district expected to provide an interpreter for her as a disability accommodation?
Also kinda surprised a deaf person would be going to a regular school--don't they usually go to special schools where everything is taught in ASL?
That's a good question.
Majority of the deaf people was born to hearing families and often they weren't exposed to the Deaf community (I don't blame them.) so it makes sense for a lot of us to end up attending public school. School for the Deaf are very small in numbers and within the past decade, there's an increase in those schools for the Deaf closing down for good. Which that really suck for some Deaf people who are "plateaued" on learning to speak and listen only that's the "norm" in many schools. A plenty of public schools don't like teaching ASL to deaf children because they were misled by Alexander Graham Bell's ideology into believing it hindered our development and that ASL is some kind of spooky bad mojo shit. Hence, as a result, people are not trying it out to see which method of language would work the best to help deaf kids to learn. It's a no wonder why there's a lot of us, including myself, are walking out there with broken English and lower IQ. I've seen too many troubled deaf children grow into a criminal that doesn't speak or understand what's socially acceptable. After being arrested, they can't even get their rights read to them in a way their brain would comprehend. They have no language in their system, not even an ASL interpreter going to work on them.
While I criticize the Deaf community, I will criticize the system that's harming the Deaf community because whatever they are doing, they bred way too many unnecessarily stupid Deaf people.
What does this mean!? Is Deaf a race now?
There's a
debate going on for a very long time about if they should be seen as an ethnic group or not. If this isn't the whole new level of being a special snowflake then I don't know what it is.
