I just watched an interesting video highlighting good parts of Dead Rising 3
https://youtube.com/watch?v=H-gsxZ8q1KwBest critique on the game I have seen in a long time, maybe best one I have seen, period. He does have a point, there is no big issues with the game, only nitpicks. My big ones are the game being too easy and the timer being meaningless, but that doesn't stop Dead Rising 3 from being my favorite from the gameplay perspective. Thank goodness everyone agrees Dead Rising 4 sucks, now I wish stuck up Dead Rising 1 purists would stop treating 3 and even 2 the same way as they treat 4(altho to be fair, most of them I met were 4channers, therefore retarded contrarians).
DR3 is severely underrated. It's a genuinely good game that got cucked by being exclusive on a dead platform (until PC release, which was too late). I couldn't stand DR2, I hated all the characters and the gameplay was grating (never ending load screens). DR3 fixes most of the issues I had with DR2.

DR1 is still the best, but DR3 is second best.

It also has one of the best DLC's of all time; Super Ultra Dead Rising 3' Arcade Remix Hyper Edition EX + α.

Yeah, I'm still mad we didn't get that on PC, or that cut multiplayer survival mode for that matter that seems to be similar to that Last Stand flash game where you hold out at night in a select location and cannot let zombies get in.

Oh and they didn't even brought back the smartglass missions, which added a nice little side quest that actually fleshes out Jamie's story arc(this is actually still present in the last DLC intro but non-Xbox players will have zero context for it). The PC port works fine for me, very smooth in fact, but it is a shame it has less content than the Xbox version.

Never heard of this site before, so no idea if it's reputable but there are rumors that a new Dead Rising game is in development.

- "We also know the title’s main villain will be an extravagant and deranged film director who forces Frank and other survivors into various trials, all in the pursuit of filming his “perfect movie”"
- "Psychopaths would also be present here, sometimes acting as minions sent by the director. Most notably, one of these key minions is the director’s right-hand man, whom Frank happens to save early in the game, and who is tasked with filming everything while having a bomb strapped to his body."
- "Furthermore, we will see the return of some known characters, such as Isabela Keyes, who will assist Frank with what appears to be a new type of zombie virus." .
No information on if the survivor escort mechanic will be in the game. Estimated release date is "still a considerable distance away."

If they actually return to their roots, this could be interesting. Have Capcom Japan develop it, bring back TJ Rotolo, go back to Frank's original design instead of the Off The Record influenced one in the Remaster that makes him look way older and keep the main story serious. The story concept sounds silly already but Manhunt's was somewhat similar and it was done well. Don't have much hope though, after Capcom outsourced the censored slop remaster to a random Chinese studio.

After Dead Rising 4, I lost hope we would ever see a proper Western Dead Rising game. After the recent atrocious demaster, same goes for the East as well. Let Dead Rising rest, a game like this can't be made for today, and leave Dead Rising 2 as well. Nobody wants another inferior demake.

After the DR1 remake I don't have a lot of hope, but I'm going to be foolishly optimistic anyways. Hollywood does sound interesting, if a little too close thematically to Fortune City

Sounds like DR1 remake all over again if alongside this "New" DR they end up bringing out a DR2 remake as stated in that article.
They should sell the rights for this IP for there to be any potential of anything good coming out (or not and have it turn into some mobile Gacha game)

Setting it in Hollywood amongst movie sets is actually a good idea and a natural progression from the Mall and Vegas. However everything else will be shit like usual.

Just let this franchise rest in peace.

Since Los Perdidos in Dead Rising 3 is based off LA, this is likely going to be a mix of DR3 and DR2 environment wise, with maybe a little bit of OTR as far as the wacky sci-fi sets will go. Would be a good idea, if the devs Capcom have now weren't atrocious and if they weren't set on sterilizing their franchises to hell and back. Dead Rising with all it's edges sanded off, ala the awful demaster, is all we can expect now, at that point we might as well just play Dead Rising 4 and overdose on wacky sitcom reddit humor to cleanse the pallet and at least taste *something* instead of a cheap imitation of the old games.
I'm probably alone but I never gave a shit about Frank. He just looks like Michael from GTAV. Chuck is better.
Dead Rising came out in 2005 and GTA 5 in 2013, that doesn't even make any sense.

...they changed his look in the remaster.
Joke's on you because in DR4, Frank looks even more like Micheal, must be new to the fanbase if you have to point out the mutated DRR Frank instead.
Shit must be bad at Capcom if they're greenlighting a game with a white straight male protagonist instead of some bug eyed bald hole voiced by Debra Wilson.
As if politics were the biggest issues DR4 and DRR have, or RE4R for that matter since Resident Evil is in the same boat. You're going to have to grow up at some point and realize that sometimes, games are just shit and it doesn't matter if Debra Wilson is there or not. DR4 and DRR are the definition of mediocre, shitty games and they could have been as "based" as they come, wouldn't change a thing. People who look at games thru the culture warrior lens exclusively are the dumbest tourists in this fandom, you could release a 3 hour video on why DR4 sucks and none of it would have to do with DEI.

Im not a fan of these ideas.

- Setting it between DR 1 and 2 feels forced. There isnt much of what to "explore" in that gap, unlike DR 2 and 3 where there was quite the timeskip and changes to the status quo that could have been interesting to not only explore but have some subtle commentary on government overreach (DR3's plot is about the government chipping people, I cant say its not something that didnt age unfortunately well).

- The film director setup feels like an idea for a psychopath but not a mastermind or final boss. This feels like a "death game" sort of plot, which just doesnt feel Dead Rising at all. It instead sound like a discount TK who also was a deranged showman of sorts. We already had Dead Rising commentating on disensibilization of violence in media in the form of "Terror is Reality", a gameshow all about slaughtering the reanimated bodies of innocents instead of mercifully putting them down and bringing the remains to loved ones for a proper funeral if possible. So another game with that sort of commentary feels redundant at best.

- The description of the psychopaths being "minions" legit sound like how they were handled in DR4, with them just being the "human enemies" instead of actual proper bosses. Also the whole point of the psychopaths were showing people that either snapped from the horror of the outbreaks or are taking advantage of the chaos to act on their worst impulses scot free.

- You know, just because you are bringing back "familiar characters" (which...uhh, what familiar characters? Because as far as we know, only Otis, Frank, Isabella and whoever were rescued during the game survived. Unless they mean familiar towards the player? Are we going to see TJ here? Thats the closest thing I can think of) doesnt mean they'll be handled well and that it wont feel pointless. The worst part is that Isabella still at least gets away with everything she has caused in DR 3, assuming she didnt go off to start some other outbreak, as DR 4 never once addressed that plot thread.

- Also, new type of virus? DR 4 was already lambasted for bringing another virus out of nowhere that just happened to be immune to zombrex and The Cure and now this game, set between DR 1 and 2, brings a NEW one that has never been mentioned? A problem with prequels are bringing new details that somehow were never mentioned in future chronological entries and this seems to reek of that.

On one side, you can just say Im being autistic for caring so much about these details and fine, maybe, but that doesnt mean Im wrong in my concerns.

Funny you say that because even Micheal and Frank's voices sort of sound alike. I had to double check they werent the same voice actor way back when.

There is plenty you can do, but Capcom doesn't have the writing chops for it.

It doesn't help that we never heard of this mysterious outbreak, even in Dead Rising 3 when there is a fucking museum exhibit dedicated to zombie outbreaks. If Hollywood was infected and there was some rogue snuff film director taking advantage of the situation, it would be at the very least just as infamous as the Fortune City outbreak.
The description of the psychopaths being "minions" legit sound like how they were handled in DR4, with them just being the "human enemies" instead of actual proper bosses. Also the whole point of the psychopaths were showing people that either snapped from the horror of the outbreaks or are taking advantage of the chaos to act on their worst impulses scot free.
We're never getting psychopaths back, making fun of the mentally ill(which is not the intent of psychopaths btw, most of them are just ordinary people who snapped) is forbidden now. Hell, they butchered most psychopaths in DRR and turned them into cartoon characters, just look what they've done to Cliff. This will be less of Manhunt and more of Dead Island 2, if we're lucky, they will probably give us a combination of DR4 and Borderlands as far as characters go.
You know, just because you are bringing back "familiar characters" (which...uhh, what familiar characters? Isabella should still be working with Phenotrans at that point in time, Chuck should still be random motorcross contender and as far as we know, Otis and the rest fucked off and live their lives in peace. Who would that even leave? Any cameos will be retarded and forced, and that is assuming they won't be used to retroactively decanonize DR2 or DR3 or even DR1 and make DRR canon ala what Resident Evil is doing with the demakes.
Funny you say that because even Micheal and Frank's voices sort of sound alike. I had to double check they werent the same voice actor way back when.

I went looking for YouTubers covering the new leak.
One's a basic short, one's hyped, one's cynical. The last one is the only Dead Rising channel I could find that made a video on it. I can't tell if the "bigger" Dead Rising channels ignoring this is just not trusting a leak, or if interest is really that low.

I can't tell if the "bigger" Dead Rising channels ignoring this is just not trusting a leak, or if interest is really that low.

Its really a mixture of both. Dead Rising is an old franchise (yeah, I know, let that sink in) that just wasnt able to "adapt" in modern times given how the whole series sort of peaked with the sequel (or the original depending on how you see it) and it struggled ever since to try to find ways to have innovation while also having a narrative minimally worth following.

DR4 was their attempt at being "modernized" somewhat, there is a lot of "modernity" in it if you catch my drift, right down to characters both old and new. It wasnt an entry made for Dead Rising fans but for "gamers" that will pick the game up, play it and never think about it again. The good news is that game was a flop that barely was able to release a DLC. Then they had the remastered/remake and while we arent sure of the budget and sales expectations, we can comfortably say that it at least underperformed, which more than confirms to Capcom the series just doesnt have any juice worth squeezing anymore. The greatest fanfare about the remake/remaster was the crowbcat video that pretty much spelled it out how we all feel about it and modern games (especially remakes that dare to pretend they hold a candle to originals).

So while the leak could be real, even if it is, the game does sound like some very low stakes effort by Capcom to pretend they are still keeping the series alive somewhat so why should anyone really be invested? The fans are "demoralized" since we havent got an objectively good entry since Off The Record (DR3 has its fans, including me but I wont pretend it didnt lay the groundwork for 4) and "gamers" dont care about Dead Rising so they are apathetic no matter what.

Dead Rising fans are the reverse of Darkstalkers fans, the former franchise gave all it could make and the fans are mostly fine with it while the latter still has so much more to offer and its fans are still asking for its return to this day.

Except Capcom apparently will want to keep DR fans suffering a bit more through intense mediocrity while it has very well documented that the company gets some sick pleasure out of blueballing Darkstalker fans with constant references to it in other games.
